Traditional atmosphere and friendly staff. French food with a a modern twist. 10 out of 10 for the entrees, mains and desserts. I had a Bavarois d'artichaut et truite fumé. for entree; Brandade of salmon with red capsicum sauce as a main meal (the salmon was mixed mashed potato to make a flat cake - really well done, and the red capsicum sauce was delicious). For dessert I had a crousillant de pommes verts avec sauce caramel au beurre sale (crispy pancake filled with apples with a salty caramel sauce. YUM!

The ideal location to enjoy the majestic scenery of Etretat's majestic chalk cliffs. Unfortunately, as during my first experience a few years ago, the restaurant is working hard to compensate the beauty of the spot, with pompous and ignorant waiters.
Still, once you go to the bar and explain them what is actually written in the their own menus, you can enjoy the most amazing of sights.

Yport boasts about half a dozen restaurants - some better than others, of course. This is one of the better ones.
La Falaise only seats about 20 people in total, so best to either book a table or arrive early. It's just had a change of ownership, and they are definitely doing something right.
We had lunch there this week, and we are looking forward to going back. The welcome was warm by both staff and the other local diners. The whole menu is on a large chalkboard so they can change it to whatever is fresh that day.
I had a wonderful chevre salad that was loaded with delicious lardons, walnuts, tomatoes, lettuce, and of course toast with rounds of lovely chevre cheese. It was delicious and ample.
My husband had a massive steak that was served with buttery new potatoes and fresh vegetables. He is claiming this is the best steak he's ever had.
We split an apple tart with fresh cream and a really nice salted caramel sauce for our dessert.
Our waitress could not have been more helpful. Although we (mostly) spoke French with her, I think she would have been fine speaking English as well.
This is a place you shouldn't miss.

What a pleasant surprise to find a really good crêperie in Etretat! The dough was excellent and there were attempts to offer more than the classics. Only on a first come first served basis, but it's worth waiting for a table in my opinion.

Domaine Saint Clair

Reviewed By KC_in_NC - Chapel Hill, North Carolina

This restaurant, Le Donjon, at Domaine Saint Clair, is situated in a dramatic setting on a steep hill overlooking the cliffs at Etretat. The people and service was fine--very few people spoke any English. The aperatifs were great. There was a tray of amuses with the aperitifs, half of which were fantastic, half of which were a good effort but failed, both of the fails related to freshness or preparation of fish, which was unexpected, being on the coast. Same was generally true of the courses in our 5-ish course degustation. Some were great, some were not so great, like the ris de veau, which didn't resemble sweetbreads we've had before--it was too large a piece of meat to have come from a calf. There seems to be a bit of acting too big for their britches--fancy efforts with some success and some failure. And, the dining room was excessively warm. After dark, they opened the windows which helped, but not very much (there seems to be a gnat problem before dusk). Overall we had a nice evening, but I'm not sure the quality meets the price.

This is a pleasant little family run auberge opposite the mairie in the village of Vattetot-sur-Mer on the coast road between Etretat & Yport. It offers much better value that the overpriced touristy restaurants in Etretat. There is a pleasant Terrace if the weather is suitable. We had the menu du jour, which at 14.50 euros was excellent value for 4 courses. Not surprisingly they were busy even on a Wednesday lunchtime, but the service was prompt and friendly. Well worth a detour.
