Loch Fyne Oyster Bar Cairndow

Reviewed By Scotlandmac - Glasgow, United Kingdom

This is a very lovely restaurant, beside Loch Fyne and surrounded by the Mountains.Ambience inside, very good indeed, very attractive set up and decor. My husband's 8 scallops (main course) were particularly good, cooked in garlic and parsley butter.Nicely served in half shells.Might go for that next time.
My cod was nice, not wow.Could have done with a sauce of some kind I thought. Great chips with aioli! Treacle tart pudding was a deep sponge like pudding but home made and REALLY tasty.
All in all, we'll be back.

The Village Inn

Reviewed By DougieB49 - Paisley, United Kingdom

While spending a few days in Arrochar popped in here for a drink at lunchtime. It doesn't get much better, when on a cold winter's day you enter a real, cosy bar, with a roaring log fire, and a great selection of wines, spirits, and real ales. The staff were friendly and welcoming. It is an old world type of bar with real character. We only had a few drinks the first visit. We liked it so much we went back the next day. The menu looked very appetising, if a little expensive, and we really only wanted a lunchtime snack. The pleasant young lady serving us said there were problems with the kitchen that day but they could make up something simple for us, so she served up two plates of delicious sandwiches. Although we did not stay overnight in this place , it seemed extremely organised and well run by friendly and pleasant staff. We would certainly recommend this place, and if you are in Arrochar give it a try, even if it's only for a quick drink.

The Rowardennan Hotel Restaurant

Reviewed By ianx17489 - Deal, United Kingdom

Went here for lunch yesterday and was slightly disappointed.
There is not much atmosphere apart from the welcoming roaring log burner. The soup was a small bowl with an equally small bread roll with it. My wife who is an ardent soup fan, felt it was not as wholesome as she would have expected from a place frequented by hungry walkers. At £4:50 a bowl it's over priced for what they serve. (To be fair if you have it with a panini etc it's only £2:50).
I had the steak pie, which had a healthy portion of steak, very good chips and veg. The sauce with the steak was rather strange, not unpleasant but one I had not encountered before.... Tasted as though it was full of powdered gravy...
The staff did not seem to enjoy working, no smiles or pleasant comments, all very functional.
This place has such potential but we're unlikely to return.

Mr. C's Fish and Whiskey Restaurant and Bar

We stopped off for lunch on our way to Oban, wish we hadn't bothered. The young lady who greeted us was lovely, very friendly. We were given menus and she took our drinks order. The food was expensive but everything sounded nice. We both decided on the Venison burger which came with chips. The burgers were delicious but unfortunately the chips were awful, very dry and tasted like they had been cooked earlier and just dipped in the fryer to refresh them. Certainly not worth £13.95 each. When we went to pay we were asked if everything was ok, we said we didn't enjoy the chips they were very dry and they just said, oh I'll mention it to the Chef. Obviously not interested and I very much doubt that they mentioned it to the Chef. Wouldn't recommend.

This is a pub, not a restaurant. What put me off when I walked in was the three different types of tartan wall-to-wall carpeting. A real sight for sore eyes! The food, however, is delicious, down-to-earth pub grub. My home-made Scotch Pie was really tasty. Service is friendly and efficient.

We have visited the tea room on a number of occasions however this was the first time since the change of ownership in March. Whilst the menu hadn't changed too much the overall quality and presentation of the food was simply nowhere near as good as on previous occasions.
Sadly we're unlikely to return in the future.

This was a perfect stop within walking distance of where we were staying. Hot vegetable soup was a welcome comfort from the cold, and the lady working here was super sweet. Clean and friendly with great homemade rolls! Got those a few times for breakfast. Also, they sold Tunnock's there and I couldn't enough. Good place to stop in and grab a bite before an excursion. There is a single picnic table for Seating, but I came by here before heading out to wherever I was going that day. Prices were very reasonable too!
