Stunning boutique hotel

Reviewed By Mcguigs12

Once again we found ourselves in a hotel with almost no guests due to the crisis of confidence in Sri Lanka. The Brits aren’t coming because they can’t get insurance which is such a shame. This hotel literally sits in water gardens many of them seeded with rice. The gardens attract a large variety of bird life including the colourful and noisy native peacocks. Apparently they also have ‘fishing cats’ but we didn’t see them. The infinity pool is lovely, large and has a great view of Lion Rock. I was the only person that used it during our stay. The villa we had was spacious and luxurious, large lounge room, bedroom and bathroom with a bath and shower and a plunge pool. So far all the service we have received in Sri Lanka has not only been exemplary but also genuinely warm and welcoming. They are very grateful to us as Aussies for being here when others have forsaken them. The food is generous and reasonably priced, I would recommend you take half board when booking as there are no restaurants nearby. All staff are just so very nice. Worth mentioning that everyone is wearing masks and wearing them correctly, the vaccination rate here is also high. This is a really lovely hotel and should please anyone who stays.

It has the WOW factor, especially pool and view

A beautiful, fascinating country with lovely people. By way of context, we spent 10 days in Sri Lanka from mid to end May 2022. We are a family of 4 including two girls (10 &11). We had a private driver/guide. The itinerary was Kandy (Amaya Hills), Dambulla, Sigiriya, safari, Polonnaruwa (Aliya Resort) and then a beach break in Kalkudha on the E. coast (Uga Bay). Despite well-publicised economic and political problems, we had no issues. We avoided Colombo (rainy anyway) and our private driver had no serious issues with fuel (as the tourist industry is given priority). We had huge sympathies for the locals though, stuck in long fuel queues and suffering rampant inflation. Hotels were also practically empty. We felt safe throughout and the locals were so friendly. Travel there and support Sri Lanka rather than staying away. We also had no health problems at all and no issues with mosquitoes. Aliya Resort is kind of in the middle of nowhere in the hot dry pains in the Golden Triangle. However, it is a very good base for exploring Dambulla cave temple, Sigiriya rock fortress (the highlight of our trip), Polonnaruwa ancient capital and elephant safari (highlight for the kids). You probably need your own transport. The hotel is a modern building which makes full use of available space and amazing view of Sigiriya in the distance. All public areas have huge open balconies to teh view and capture the cooling breeze. That together with its open modern design and elephant theme (Aliya means elephant in sinhalese) gives it the Wow factor. The pool is massive and a real centrepiece. Also most welcome in this hot, dry climate. The rooms are in moderns two story challets spread out in the spacious grounds. It was very tranquille when we were there (buy hotel was only 10% occupied). Our upstairs balcony suite had a large master bedroom with family bathroom and a kids twin room up a steep spiral saircase (no bathroom). It suited us perfectly and was of high quality. Spacious and high quality bathroom and other ameneties. Good internet and air-con. We didnt try the spa. The gym was large and well equipped. The nature trail around the grounds and the paper recycling plant were a nice touch. We were on half board, and maybe due to the low occupancy, this consisted of a limited set menu in the evenings. The food was good but we could have done with more choice. It became a little repetetive after a few days. Service was friendly but a little unprofessional/untrained at times (a tred we experienced throughout the trip). Breakfasts were excellent. Great choice and lots of fresh fruit. Note that beer (including local Lion beer) and soft drinks are good. However there is a very limited choice of rather low quality wine hare and at the other hotels we visited. Stick to the excellet and varied fruit juices! Overall, a place we would highly recommend. Also good value for money.

Good location

Reviewed By JAEMH

A two nights stay during our 14+ round trip through wonderful Sri Lanka. The tree hut is comfy and nice. Location very well. It was great to discover the area on the free bikes. It is both an easy bike drive to both the rock of Sigiriya and to see the sunset at the Pidurangala Rock (you could even walk there). Food in the restaurant was very disappointing. Really in no comparison with all the good food we had in Sri Lanka. Internet very unreliable.

I must especially Thank Budhika /Manjula (reception) and Priyantha (F&B Manager) who went out of their way to attend my special request to surprise my sister and brother in law on their wedding anniversary with a beautiful cake and pretty room decoration. Despite of the current challenges int he country, entire staff maintained that beautiful smile in their faces and warmth at all times. I commend their service and recommend Sigir Village for your stay. Thank you once again.

Arrived in evening, so we didn't see everything - we asked for the pool and the manager said it is ok. went to the pool. next day we saw the pool -was really dirty, you couldn't see the ground or your feet in there. the manager said that he has no chemicals for the pool. because of that we didn't use the pool again and wanted to stay in the room. not possible, because it was to hot. we know about the problems with diesel/fuel and the powet cuts, but they have a generator. we asked for to activate it for using the AC but they said theres no fuel for that. In the evening they had fuel for everything. Room wasn't clean and they didn't cleaned it on the next day. On the second day we talked to the manager but they didn't do anything. It isn't how it look likes on the pics and for us there was no relaxing. For this priceclass this is not okay, also the marketing manager said this. They didn't give us money back, so we paid more than 430 dollars for two nights without pool (or deseases from the using?) and no AC. Manager was really unfriendly. Never again.

The place you don't want to leave

I arrived at this resort following a recommendation from Chan Du, the tuktuk driver. The first impression was positive. Everything in harmony with nature, beautifully arranged bungalow, very spacious and clean, swimming pool with crystal clear water with perfect temperature. Peace and quiet, exactly what we are looking for. The rooms have air conditioning, TV, refrigerator, kettle for coffee, tea. Water is provided by the hotel every day. The restaurant is open every day. You can serve a very rich and varied breakfast as well as lunch or dinner. The food is delicious. It is nice that the waiter goes to the room with the menu and asks you what time the meal is ready. The prices for accommodation and services are very good But what impressed me the most was the availability of the people here, including the owner. They made us feel like we were friends for a lifetime. The owner even transported us by personal car to a tourist spot and on the way he took us to the bus. I recommend this place for the peace offered, cleanliness, attention and availability from the team without invading your space. I will be back with great pleasure. Thanks to Asna Nature Resort for taking care of me and making me feel at home. You are wonderful.

Secluded retreat

Reviewed By Ruuuth91

The location of the hotel is just as stunning as the pictures suggest. You really are in the middle of nowhere surrounded by wildlife, and the infinity pool is fantastic. To get to the hotel you have to take a TukTuk for about 10 mins from the main road. The road itself is a very bumpy dirt track, which meant we didn't feel like leaving for dinner each night as we had originally planned. Luckily the food here (both breakfasts and dinner) is absolutely delicious. Our host was so attentive and couldn't do enough to make our stay comfortable. He arranged TukTuks whenever we needed and we were perfectly positioned to reach Sigiriya. Unfortunately during our stay there were a lot of power cuts in the country and this hotel didn't have a generator, so we were eating by candlelight one night. The only other drawback was the aforementioned wildlife, as we had lizards, a mouse and hundreds of ants in our bathroom. In all fairness the ants were sorted with spray, and this is the jungle after all!
