Absolutely gorgeous!

Reviewed By Louise T

We spent a night at Hush and can’t fault it. The grounds are just gorgeous filled with native plants, wooden walkways and was a lovely place to sit and enjoy a drink. The rooms are all very private and ours was clean and pvery comfortable. Great water pressure in the shower was a real bonus! I fell asleep listening to birdsong including a morepork and some bell birds. Hugh was a great host. I’d highly recommend and hope we will be back again soon.

Solo female traveller visit

Reviewed By FemaleSoloTraveller1

I absolutely loved my stay at Fat Cat Eco Friendly Backpackers. I visited sometime around June 2018 and thoroughly enjoyed my time here. The volunteer workers staying there went out of their way to make me feel included, and very kindly cooked vegan pancakes etc for me! ? I was very happy to help with the dishes after. They all made me feel extremely welcome. I loved that we all sat together in the evenings for dinner and talked and laughed as if we were one big group of friends. I loved how the place was so colourful and loved stroking the cats on my bed. I was a little worried about walking to and from Fat Cat due to being a female solo traveller. as it felt quite isolated but it was absolutely fine. It was well safe enough. I have special memories here, and would definitely love to return sometime in the future. I’ve wanted to write a review for a long time, but I couldn’t submit it before. Thank you for the amazing once-in-a-lifetime memories that I will always treasure, Fat Cat. Leah Courtney

I really don’t know where to start, such an amazing place. We stayed for 5 nights whilst visiting family in the area. Gavin and Sally were welcoming, amazing, hilarious, beyond helpful and super sweet. Breakfasts every day were scrumptious with an amazing choice on offer. We had fresh fruit and yoghurt every day followed by toast and homemade Jam/marmalade. Others would have cooked breakfasts. Sally would go out of her way to make sure people had what they wanted. Both would check in about the previous day and provide helpful suggestions re the day ahead. The rooms are clean and spacious with lovely views. For the first 3 nights we had the garden room which was lovely. I loved watching the sparrows and sleeping cats (the gorgeous sugar and spice) living in harmony. On the last two nights we were upgraded to the pool room which was fantastic. The beds are large and really comfy. The bathrooms are spacious and well stocked with bathrobes etc. Aside from little storage there is everything you could possibly need. A lot of people would normally only stay for one night in the area so I would imagine storage is not an issue for most. The pool was a bit too cold for us because of the weather (personal choice and equal cowardice) but we did have the pleasure of trying out the hot tub. It was amazing, very luxurious. The gardens are really beautiful. Gavin and Sally went out of their way to book tables for us in the evenings (even when one restaurant showed as fully booked) and give us lifts out and back. As they says it’s not what you know of who you know. We really felt like part of the family and can not recommend this place enough. My advice.... one night is not enough for you to fully appreciate their charm or the area.

Pleasant Motel, close to Waitomo Caves, good value

I have stayed here several times. Whilst a bit dated, the room was good value and included all the expected amenities, microwave and toaster. The shower had good pressure and the room had a portable fan in it which was great because there was no air con and it would have otherwise been unbearably hot. There is an onsite restaurant, but we did not use this.

Rapaura Water Gardens

Ideally situated as a base from which to explore the Coromandel, we offer comfortable self-catering accommodation in a boutique lodge or garden cottage. While the estate is open to the public during the hours of 9-5, in the evening it becomes your private playground. Take a bush walk, swim at the waterfalls, barbeque and experience nature at its best. No TV, just peace and the sound of running water

Stayed at the cottage

Enjoyed the night in the cottage, very quiet with peaceful gardens and bush walks. The cottage interior was a bit tired and dated but clean and spacious. Breakfast supplies left for us included home made marmalade which was lovely but no other choices and some herbal teas would also have been appreciated, especially it being such a natural kind of setting. Could be an amazing place with a few updates but a good value for money.

Forget it... dont stay here... dreadful host.

The place is dirty, tired and most things don't work. There is no electricity after dark, which is just weird. It is clear the host, Scott is both over it, and a crook. We cancelled our stay after 2 nights, and referred to the cancellation policy for refund on his website, to which he replied: "Tough, Im just not gong to refund you" in a not just unprofessional, but nasty manner. He also seemed pretty delusional and raved about his religious prophetic abilities and that he was prepping for the end of the world. This host should be under investigation for being an intimidating fraud.
