The Eiger

Reviewed By Graeme74 - Glasgow, United Kingdom

Lucked out with a perfect sunny, cloudless day for this simply stunning route. Was a bit nervous reading some reviews as I only had running shoes and clothing (and a small back pack with thin sweater and water/snacks). Climb out of Lauterbrunnen to Wengen is sharp but lovely - in the trees but regular gaps to see the incredible Lauterbrunnen valley and waterfalls. Once in pretty Wengen, it was a beautiful hike/run along above the valley all the way eventually to Kleine Scheidegg, passing a few train stops and info signs for exhilarating ski runs. The views of the Jungfrau, Monch and Eiger - as well as countless other snow peaked beauties and look backs down to the valley were incredible throughout. After some rest and drink/food in Kleine Scheidegg, it was a short walk/run up to Eigergletscher station, which is nestled right under the start of the Eiger Trail. I was advised there was snow still in a round a dozen gullies on the path - so was a little early in my well worn grip running shoes. But that, and the scree elements were very easy with just some basic care when crossing those short sections (usually 10-20 careful side steps were enough.) I can imagine earlier in year it would be quite different, and require better equipment and boots - and also on a different day in heavy wind/rain would be a totally different prospect - so carefully consider weather, as well of course your fitness. But there were many others of varying fitness and hiking experience out there, so I think on a sunny day in mid-summer it’s a very doable trail as long as reasonably fit. The traverse under the Eiger’s north face is incredible - watching the rock climbers above was breathtaking! A few short, steep ups and downs, but nothing overly taxing in each of those and the path is well defined and worn-in throughout. Amazing waterfall just before main descents start before Alpiglen. From there, it’s a long, steady and at times fairly steep descent for many km’s into Grindelwald - could be difficult if you have knee or ankle issues, but fun otherwise. Can’t recommend enough for a few hours to see some of the most incredible and varied scenes in the world! Again, just consider the weather, your fitness, time of year, equipment/gear needed and water/snacks. Have fun ????????

Eskimos Ski School

Reviewed By CarolineB1972 - Preston, United Kingdom

Just returned from a weeks skiing holiday. My confidence in skiing was quite low and my 18 yr old son hadn't been skiing for 4 years. The excellent teaching by James was superb, he built my confidence so much, I managed to ski the whole way down from the revolving restaurant via the black run by the end of the week. My son was skiing so well by the end of the week and loved it so much he's wanting to go back next month and become a ski instructor himself! James taught us so much in a few days and builds confidence so well. Eskimos service was great, so accommodating with how we split out lessons. Definitely recommend them. Thanks James and Eskimos.

Klettersteig Daubenhorn

Not many mountain lakes are just a few steps from the cable car; Daubensee is one of them and it is definitely worth visiting it. The view is amazing and changes every 50m along the loop around the lake. The reflection of the mountains on the water is incredible and there are many spots for nice pics. Therefore, consider more than 2 hours to complete the loop, especially if there is snow on the path. And take some food with you, so you can have a pic-nic with a view, and what a view!

As a group of complete beginners, we have skied with 4 different instructors from Element so far. Each individual instructor had their own teaching style, but all brought learnings that complemented our continued improvement overall. Will, Guy, Jack and Tom all put us at ease and were great fun to work with! Emma & Lucy were also great with helping us book or amend lessons. They were flexible, friendly, client-centric: can definitely recommend the team! (In fact I did actually recommend them and brought some additional friends to book with the school since our first lessons). Thanks Team Element, keep up the good work!

The mountain experience delightful we walked the glacier walk, across the suspension bridge and took a ride on the chairlift, we had the best weather, enjoyed a nice drink on the deck and took the rotating gondola ride down to the village. So recommended, expensive but once in a life time trip.

Zoo Zurich

«People who know animals will protect them.» Up above the city of Zurich, spanning a surface of approximately 27 hectares, is Switzerland’s largest and most frequently visited cultural and educational institution: Zoo Zurich. The popular nationwide excursion destination wants to get people interested in animals and encourage them to play an active role in nature conservation and the protection of species.

Reviewed By Meike_Ka_9 - Zurich, Switzerland

I really like the Zoo Zurich it has a nice and not too big selection of animals including some very lovely koalas. Most of the enclosure seems spacious to me and my impression is that animals are in good condition as well. Every now and then they have volunteers explaining details about the animals and even on a rainy day there are enough houses to spend time inside

The pass is only open after 1st of June until October after the majority of the winter snow has melted. Great views of the surrounding mountains, and there are pleasant walks in the vicinity.
