It appears on some days that Whanganui must have the cheapest and best quality fish'n'chips in New Zealand. George's provided a very nice and plentiful fish'n'chip meal for my wife, my son and I recently. We really found the fish, in particular, to be succulent.

Well below average service & food. Booked for a birthday dinner & was pretty disappointing. No drink order was taken before the food & we had to actually ask for drinks at the time. Lamb shank was bland & just seemed to be just boiled in water with no flavour. Chicken pizza was dry & we werent asked for further drinks. Very disappointing

Cafe with inside and outside seating. Big selection of deli foods, salads, sweets in cabinets, plus blackboard menus.
In the lower part of the main shopping area and a few steps off Victoria Avenue, this is the place for those special delicacies and for creating a picnic lunch.

Kristys Café is known WORLDWIDE for our FAMOUS RAETIHI PIE, Amazing Food, Coffee, Service and Atmosphere.
Really isnât much else to say the title says it all, $8.50 for a normal toasted sandwich.... average coffee. Very outdated.

The car journey from Wellington to New Plymouth is long, after two and a half hours of driving Whanganui was well positioned to break our journey. Mud Ducks cafe was our lunchtime destination, also well positioned for a traveller, situated by the Whanganui River and the iSite centre, with free and easy parking out the front. The cabinet by the counter was full of delicious tempting dishes, we chose the pulled pork Rueben sandwich, toasted, and a serve of bacon and broccoli salad to start with. We finished with coffee and shared a slice of carrot cake, nice serving size. The cafe was quite busy on this week day, it appeared to be full of locals. The service was swift and friendly and the decor pleasing with loads of natural lighting. Afterwards we took a stroll along the river promenade before continuing on our journey. It's a shame we didn't have any spare time to discover a little more of Whanganui.

A wonderful beach side licenced cafe/ restaurant serving fabulous food in an ambient setting. Famous for our burgers and fresh salads with great options for gluten free and vegan diets. Kick start your day with a fair trade coffee and wind down later on w
If you fancy burgers that are carefully crafted (soft ciabatta buns, homemade sauces, fresh greens, pulled lamb, sticky bbq beef, crispy fish, haloumi...), excellent salads (finally a Caesar salad not drowning in dressing), lovely vegetarian options like homemade Dahl and falafel, fresh fish, hand cut huge potato chips you can upsize and dress in great toppings.. then definitely try here. Nice people, great setting winter or summer, good wine. We were happy campers for lunch.

This café is on a side street in an older building. Its probably at least two older shops now joined together. If weather permits you can even sit in a small yard at the rear. There's a short menu of cooked items along with a counter display of food. All the food appears to be of good quality with fresh ingredients. I ordered poached eggs with bacon and was not disappointed - perfectly poached eggs on Vogels with lashings of bacon. The coffee is strong.Highly recommended for breakfast in Whanganui.

Lunch booked on a Saturday..never been before.Ordered fish and chips for him and a delicious Caesar salad for me...Long long long wait.Every one around us served menu food before us..Upon questioning our meals arrived immediately. His looked and tasted great!Mine had a cold rubbery poached egg which the waitress said is always how a Caesar is served..hot bacon, ice cold smoked chicken...hard toast to top it off.Just awful. And to add insult to injury NO anchovies which I specifically asked for.So a walk inside with plate in hand and told something completely different.I have no idea what went wrong but majorly disappointing.Refund and many apologies offered.Probably wouldnât bother to drive from Taranaki to try it again.

My sons 17 th birthday and he chose Carolineâs boat shed. They made a fuss of him, balloon, happy birthday card, decorations. Very cool. The staff were outstanding. Courteous, friendly and efficient. The meals were just excellent. Say no more. Nachos, salmon, burger, steaks and entree, everything flavoursome, well presented and tasty. What a great place to take a family.
