If you fancy fish and chips GeorgES is a great place to go. I have not stopped in the small restaurant but the take away service is excellent. Best place to buy fresh fish also. Lots of choices

We turned up at 6pm but whoops the manager had forgotten to write down our booking for 7 people for a birthday dinner. Not a problem said the staff. They fitted us into a cosy table in the corner. The service was absolutely fantastic. All staff where efficient and friendly. All our meals came out together and we all thoroughly enjoyed them. Thanks to all staff for a fantastic evening.

Yellow House Cafe

The bloke who runs it is an excellent host, as is the Ryan crotty double working there.
The menu is good, and depending on who makes the coffee it can range from average to above average.
Cabinet food is fresh but pricy by Wanganui or even Wellington standards.
The setting is very cool.

Just stopped in for 2 flat whites and also had a piece of lemon yoghurt cake. They use Ripe beans for coffee which are ok but have a lemon/green zing to them which isnt to our taste. However the coffee was creamy and a good temperature and not over-extracted.
The cake though was devine lemonyness :-)

First time here,Stopped with a group of fellow riders. I had a long black and cheese scone. The coffee was superb. A friend had a meat pie and he loved it,
Friendly staff and when I complemented the barista she really lit up. Asked about the coffee. Havoc beans from Wanganui, If only every coffee was like this. Gorgeous flavour. Not a hint of bitterness and the perfect temperature. The price of the scone at 6 bucks surprised me but it was large.
This place is now a goto spot when I visit or pass through again.

Parnells Cafe Gallery and Garden Art

Fresh, homemade food and Mojos coffee. Always a must in Wanganui to eat, coffee and view gallery. Fantastic gelato.

This caf is usually busy and popular with the locals. It can be a little hit and miss with both the coffee and food. I had both great coffee and terrible coffee which is a shame, because it puts you off going again. The food has been ok, but always has oil and balsamic vinegar on the plate, I find this weird and unnecessary. Good presentation doesn’t need that sort of garnish, it altered food flavour and not for the good.

Well there were 30 of us and boy did the restaurant do well! Food came out very fast. We had our own function room for our family gathering. What a great way to finish a great day in Whanganui. The special of deep fried halloumi was very moreish, my flounder was cooked perfectly and up there with fine dining restaurants. I’m told the steaks and schnitzel were very good too. Desserts were large but really tasty. Thanks The Brickhouse I think when we come back to Whanganui this will be in our plan- you can’t beat great food and great service!

Mud Ducks

Service was prompt and friendly. Menu seemed limited both on the menu and in the cabinet and we were there at about 1215 hours. What we had was tasty and good-sized portions but there did not seem to be me many lighter options. Very handy spot to stop if doing a good walk. Very clean. Cabinet food area and counter can get a bit squashed with people going in and out, choosing food and trying to pay. Next time more likely to stop for coffee or tea break than lunch. On our last visit the menu seemed to be more varied and interesting - in winter.

Beautiful setting.. but has declined within the last few months, possibly bcos its for sale and staff despondent?.. I watched as staff behind the counter were having a private chat while 2 lady customers politely waited til they finished, I thought it was rude.. The kitchen door is disgustingly black (where people touch to enter) and the bathroom is not much better. I have been to Element on too many occasions to count but the last 2 have definitely been the LAST. The food is good but the standards have dropped below par... sadly

Last minute decision to eat out. Chose Spice Guru. Wow what a fab restaurant. Very busy but we got a table. Décor first class, Seating wonderfully comfortable, staff polite and attentive. Food was awesome and the best Indian we have ever had. We will definitely be back again. And the cost was very modest $60 for 3 beers, 1 Mango Lassie, 1 entrée (shared ) and 2 mains.
