Top 10 Lodges in Bavaria, Germany

April 25, 2023 Enriqueta Cusson

Known for its beer, sausages, Oktoberfest and lederhosen, Bavaria is Germany’s largest federal state and one of its most popular tourist destinations. It's also one of the most independent-minded regions. Home to cities like Munich (the capital) and Nuremberg, Bavaria is also cherished for its hilly countryside, where such gorgeous sites as Hohenschwangau Castle, Neuschwanstein Castle (the model for Sleeping Beauty’s Castle at Disneyland) and Linderhof and HerrenChiemsee Palaces can be found.

Hotel room nice and clean. Hotel has a late night bar underneath which is quite noisy. We were facing the river so quieter than the street rooms. Absolutely no information in the room. I was asked to check in online, I did and that was the end of the email conversation. Had to go through my booking confirmation to find a telephone number to use WhatsApp and find out about breakfast and wifi. The lack of information is very disappointing.

Excellent Stay

We loved our stay here: perfect location, friendly staff, clean and historic apartment with little goodies tucked away should you need them (toothbrush, bandaids, earplugs). Only downside is no elevator which may be a problem for those with lots of luggage, but at check in we were helped with our bags up the stairs. It was a very hot day when we visited but the rooms stayed cool at night with the windows open, and we did not need to use the fan or any earplugs. Step out the door and you are in the most charming historic old town. Don’t forget to try the city’s famous ‘Smoke Beer’ just around the corner. If I could plan my trip again I would have stayed here much longer and taken day trips to the surrounding area.

Hotel Vogelsburg

Wonder if we will regret this review

Reviewed By Via2r

Arriving from a cool Scandinavia we sought refuge in the Vogelsburg (“fugales burc,” nothing to do with birds) for nearly a week. This time we wanted to take advantage of the renovated Vogelsburg in a deluxe room. What a kind reception a late Sunday afternoon! Being first invited to unload the car in the courtyard and not in the distant parking area and then being advised to book a table as the kitchen would soon be closing. Our room was large with everything being as we were led to expect, with a very big and airy bathroom and a comfy bed. Being familiar with the area we just wondered, was this actually the room with river view? Well, if you leaned out of the window you got the river view. Going to dinner we saw that the terrace we had visited so often had been renovated and preserved. This was always our favourite place to spend an early evening, enjoying the fantastic view, with a bottle of Juliusspital wine from a “Vogelsburg lage” and some freshly made asparagus. Somewhat surprisingly we could not get service just outside the restaurant, as this area had a kind of self-service. Although rather confusingly, we were served the delicious asparagus from the restaurant. Perhaps understandable, giving staff shortages related to Covid-19. On the other hand, the hotel might rope off the area immediately in front of the restaurant and serve hotel guests here. Next morning and the subsequent mornings we were greeted by very friendly staff, and a sumptuous breakfast, exactly what we had looked forward too, planning to spend the week wandering the “Weinberge” and the small towns, drinking some wine and having light meals in the town squares or in “Hinterhöfle” in Volkach. All very satisfying. Except that is for a hallux rigidus, a glorious name for a sprained big toe, a result of bumping my foot against a hidden step in the restaurant. My fault, as it was actually marked. Still, it did not dent the impression of a wonderful week at Vogelsburg and of the treks (now rather slowly) through the area. The explanation for the strange title … Well, perhaps a positive review may attract more guests, and thus we may find it difficult to get a “de luxe” room next time. Enjoy, but please … Mind the step!

Perfect location, great sleep, free parking

Kneitinger Alter Schlachthof is located 10 minutes easy walk from Regensburg Altstadt. Considering the price of the room it’s perfect. Our room (110) was huge, clean, quiet - with a great bathroom. The twin beds were firm, and we had a wonderful sleep. We thought that breakfast was too expensive (€10/person) - but there is a bakery-coffeeshop located 2 minutes away, so no worries Parking in front of the hotel is free (though it is a little hard to find).

Hotel Am Dom

Simple and efficient!

Reviewed By Eiramenna

We visited Bamberg in January, low season. Maybe that's why we didn't experience the noise at night other reviewers complained about (the hotel does provide earplugs in your room lol!). Also the price was very reasonable in this month. Breakfast was served at a restaurant across the street. It was awesome, so many choices! It was super helpful to us that there is parking at the hotel, at $10 per night. The best part about the hotel is the location, you are literally in the heart of Bamberg, and everything is only a short walk away. The hotel is very small, our room was right across from the front desk. The room itself offered enough space though. It is super basic, nothing fancy. The two-person bed had two 1-person mattresses. The mattress on my side was really comfortable, but on my boyfriend's side was way too soft, it should be replaced. Also, despite being non-smoking, there was a smell of cigarette smoke seeping trough the walls, especially noticeable in the bathroom. Not sure where that was coming from. Tip in Bamberg: visit Schenkerla brewery around the corner from the hotel and try the traditional rauchbeer!

Trendy hotel “Munich Rooms” is an excellent home away from home in Schwabing in the heart of Munich. I loved the amazing interior design! Munich Rooms features beautifully furnished bedrooms, which are maximized in terms of amenities, the bed is incredibly comfy and the shower is great. There are lots of shops right outside the hotel as well as lovely restaurants. I’d definitely stay again. Thanks to the owners for all their consideration.

Good location, very close to the highway. Clean and quiet rooms, comfy mattress, good wi-fi connection even in the rooms at the very far end. Plenty of room in the parking place. Basic breakfast, with abundance of salty food.
