Absolutely wonderful

From the moment we arrived we could tell this place was different from many other hotels / resorts. We were sat down with a welcoming drink and a member of check-in staff came to join us, completed all the necessary documentation, arranged our LFT in a room 5 meters away which was completed in 5 minutes, told us all about the resort, gave us maps, dinner schedules, entertainment schedules and much more. As we had arrived early our room wasn't yet ready but the guy took us to the buffet restaurant, Oasis, and told the bar man that we had arrived and what package we were on, he also told the the chaps at the entrance to the restaurant and that meant we could use both facilities while we waited for our room. We didn't wait long, the room was ready at 2 as they said it would be. We were then taken, in a golf buggy, which there are lots of as the resort covers quite a lot of ground so a lift is often welcome, you just flag one down as it passes or you ring 0 from your room and they come for you, to our room by Rosha. He was great, very helpful with our luggage and took us through everything in our room, air con etc. He also took us back to reception at the end of our stay and was just as helpful with our luggage and getting us into our taxi. The room was spacious, had everything we need with an extra large king size bed with beautiful soft cotton sheets. It even had an outside shower room but we were advised against using it because of issues with mosquitos. We didn't need it though because our inside shower was the biggest wet room I have ever seen in a hotel and Ive stayed in lots around the world over the years. One small issue we had was that in the super large bathroom was the open wardrobe, it was OK but when the room got steamy so did your clothes, it might be an idea to split the two areas with a stud wall, as the space is big enough. We did find that the information you find online about the resort, either their own site or agents sites is a little sparse and somewhat confusing. Simply we don't think they do themselves justice. For example there is no mention that along the expansive beach front there are a number of small huts that serve drinks to you while you are on your sunbeds and have a never ending supply of towels, if they don't have something they also send off to the main bars to get it for you, they are fantastic and the guys that looked after us were superb, so helpful, so polite and nothing was too much trouble even down to coming round and offering to clean our sunglasses for us, brilliant - big thank you to Robert and his team, Sanjay, Sameer and Adey. They also do not explain the Escape Package properly and unless you book directly with them you cannot book it on an agents site, you have to wait until you arrive and then book it. To be clear the Escape Package is an all inclusive drinks package (not top shelf or premium drinks) as if you book a half board package they automatically include lunch so your on full board. The Escape package works out about £50 per head per day and you might think that a little steep but when you consider it includes water, drinks cocktails on the beach or around the pool, drinks at lunch or dinner, predinner drinks and a sundowner then with the prices for individual drinks you soon reach £50 (or do I just drink too much....) The restaurants, there are 6 of them, Oasis is a buffet serving breakfast, lunch and dinner; La Caravelle is a buffet for breakfast and then al a carte for lunch and dinner, you then have 3 other restaurants, an Asian, an Indian and an Italian which don't serve breakfast or lunch but serve al a carte each evening. The 6th restaurant is Le Plage, and as the name depicts is on the beach, this serves a la carte every day but only opens on certain nights for dinner a la carte, Kevin and Chintoo were brilliant here and very helpful at lunch time. We only visited once at night and they weren't around, this was unfortunate because although the setting was fantastic, the food superb, the service left a little to be desired with staff running around looking quite disorganised At the Oasis there is also a bar were you can just sit and watch the sunset, a memorable sight and then there is a second bar in between the Caravelle and the Italian restaurant, lovely place, great service and thanks to Chris and Isabelle who looked after us on numerous nights. Ive mentioned a few staff as I cant recall the names of all those that looked after us in one way or another but what I can say that they were the most genuine, helpful, polite, courteous staff I have ever had the joy to meet, they are a credit to the Beachcomber. The standard of food was excellent wherever we ate, and we visited all of the restaurants and the house wine, a South African Cab Sav for me and Chardonnay for my wife were always very pleasant. This was especially noticeable on our last night, we had booked the Italian as it was one of our favourites and Roshan, who had looked after us on our first night found out that we were coming again. After a pre-dinner cocktail over looking the ocean we moved across to the Italian restaurant only to be met by Roshan who had reserved us a table on the front, again overlooking the ocean and on our table was a bottle of the Cab Sav breathing nicely and in an ice bucket next to the table was my wifes chardonnay, all in all that's pretty impressive, and very much appreciated service, thanks Roshan (keep up the running and cut out the cigarettes). All in all we had a fantastic time at the Beachcomber and although Ive made one or two comments were I think things could improve nothing was too major to impact on our holiday, we had a wonderful time and we will, most definitely, return

Casuarina Resort & Spa

Set in the heart of a lush tropical garden, Casuarina Resort & Spa is a Mauritian resort located across the beautiful beach of Trou Aux Biches in the North West of Mauritius, 30 mins from the Capital, Port Louis and 10 mins from the lively village of Grand Bay. Known in the past as the fisherman’s village, Trou Aux Biches is very famous for its long stretched white sandy beach, its geographical location and for its outstanding seabed, key area for diving sports and to discover the splendid flora and fauna of the Indian Ocean. The hotel has a unique Tropical architecture, with white walls made of limestone and thatched roofs. Originally built in 1973 with only 15 bungalows, there were 94 rooms expanded onto 7 hectares of timeless landscape of mature trees and swaying coconut trees. Supporting facilities include 3 inviting restaurants, 2 swimming pools, a gym and a Balinean styled Spa.

Basic but clean - everything you need

Reviewed By Pink

Just returned from a 12 night stay at Casuarina on All Inclusive basis. On arrival after a very long flight from the UK we were greeted at reception and provided with a cold drink of juice, ribbons (to identify us as AI guests) and were then provided with a brief overview of the hotel - meal times, drinks etc. Staff all very pleasant and speak English, French and Mauritian. We are grateful to have received the rooms we requested which are the only ones that give you a true ocean view (paid and booked Ocean View rooms). As the small beach is across the road and obscured by trees it isn't an unobscured view but you can see the Indian Ocean. Both rooms had a very large bed, balcony, chair and table with a bathroom. Very clean (apart from the old, dirty patio furniture out on the balcony) but rather dated with worn, dark wood furniture and a peach coloured bathroom. Everything functional though and as we only required a base from which to explore this beautiful country we truly felt that we'd received exactly what we paid for. There are two pools - both very small and the water is lovely and cool. Not many sun loungers and you do lose the sun from around 3:30pm this time of year due to the surrounding foliage (beautiful big trees!) So if you like a full day in the sun head to the beach instead. Pool towels provided daily. Not the best but they do the job. If you like fluffy, pristine pool towels bring your own. Entertainment was a traditional Mauritian band with dancers for around an hour once a week. Very lovely to see and great music. Other than that it's the bar staff playing Socca music on a laptop - feel free to have a dance! During the day there's aqua aerobics & Zumba on a small scale and the staff are always happy to have a game of darts or table tennis with you if you ask them. For us this is perfect as we aren't keen on full-on animation and noise. The Great thing is that at 11pm on the dot everything went quiet, the staff left & the night was over with so you can guarantee a good night's sleep. Weekends are much busier with local people who retire to the beach after a long week in the city. Food is fine and as expected. Always plenty of choice - omelettes and eggs freshly cooked with chicken sausages, pancakes, bread, cereals & fruit in the morning. Lunch comprises of a few hot items, salads and desserts and dinner hosts the Curry Corner - usually a fish or vegetable curry, lentil danl and rice alongside other items such as pizza, freshly cooked meat, fish, salads & desserts. Shout out to Guresh the chef on breakfast - the best omelettes! We did eat out on a few evenings as it became rather repeatative. Lunches were limited here as we spent most of our time exploring the island. Drinks are most certainly watered down here. If you came to get drunk you'll be disappointed. It appears they're giving you a lot of hard alcohol when they pour quarter of a litre into your glass, but trust me it really isn't. On a good point, nobody really gets lairy or embarrassing as a result of being drunk at least. There's some nice restaurants towards Mon Choissy or in Trou aux Biches itself, or in Grand Baie a 15 mins taxi ride away. Bars and clubs are currently closed due to the pandemic. Nitesh our favourite bar man was lovely throughout - mixing us drinks on request and providing us with bottles of water on our last day after checkout. All the staff here are so pleasant, happy and seem genuinely pleased to have tourists back on the island after a 2 year closure of the international border. The beach accross the road is very disappointing. The sand is pitted with small stones and rocks, making it difficult to gain access to the water however, an 8 minute walk to the left with bring you into Trou aux Biches beach at Beachcomber which is a nice, wide, white sandy stretch. You'll not be able to take a lounger or place down your towel for a good half mile though due to it being privately owned, so keep walking until you get to the public beach (about 15-20 mins walk in total) just after Beachcomber. There's food trucks, an ATM & some beach sellers in the car park plus some toilets. If you take a right outside the hotel and walk down the road for 25 mins you'll find yourself at the beautiful Mon Choissy public beach which is stunning! Very natural - no loungers, shops, hotels, toilets, vendors so it's lovely and quiet, absolutely pristine & the water is crystal clear. Bring your snorkel! If you are a diver there's a dive centre onsite. Dont forget to take some fruit down to the pond at the front of the hotel (gardens) where you'll find 6 beautiful little white ducks. They'll waddle over to you to say hello for sure! Their favourite is pineapple. Please don't give them bread as it harms them. Overall a lovely base for exploring this stunning country. Would definitely return.

The living room was spacious and offered a magnificent view of the sea. We ordered continental breakfast on our last day. Unfortunately we were supplied with expired mini butter and mini jam jars which ruined the last day of our staycation as we had an upset stomach after consumption.
