Awesome stay! Close to Canyons!

Reviewed By Rae91Rae

The guesthouse was a shared room with Japanese style mats on the floor for sleeping. There was also a nice dining area (closed for Covid) that we could use all for ourselves. It was the only approved eating area but that was super convenient and the aesthetic was great! We stayed 2 nights and we did canyoning at Canyons which was only a 15 minute train ride from the guesthouse’s closest station Ome station. The guest house is about a 3 minute walk to the station and a 7/11 which has great food options during Covid. Sanitizer and good social distancing was possible at this hotel as we were the only guests. There was a river and ome museum not too far of a walk and the guesthouse was very clean. It gets cleaned from 11-14 everyday which was fine for us because we were out exploring during that time. It can ultimately hold up to 6 people. But I imagine 6 would be a little cramped, 4 was a good amount! Stay here!

Nice place with great views

Reviewed By Whose_Third

I really wanted to give this place 5 stars but but but the negative points somehow seems too big for me. Cons 1) Check in time was late (3:00pm)and check out time was too early (10:00am) 2) Extra cost for meal for people with food restrictions (dinner): while the cost for a regular meal was ¥2160. Being a vegan I had to pay ¥4320 which I think is extremely pricey and the food was nothing special. Vegetarian meals are ¥3240 but the dishes served contain bonito stock which I think contradicts the idea of vegetarianism. Pros 1) Spacey rooms 2) Nice bath 3) Good breakfast 4) Nice view from the rooms

Easy to Stay

Reviewed By イグモル

I was born here and had been stayed this city long times ago. Sometimes I have been stayed here when comeback to Japan. As following comments, here is nice atmosphere around a landscape. I recommend to walk at the river side….Early morning or evening time. Accommodation is not bad. However, here is a faraway from JR Ome station. So, it’s difficult to getting to there without public traffic system without taxi. Usually a cost of taxi is approximately 10 USD or less. Easy to get by a car.

Traditional Japan Hospitality at its Best - Okutamaji

Reviewed By joebbb

Accessible by a short train ride from metro Tokyo, the Okutamaji Onsen Hotel is situated right on the Okutama River, which surrounds the hotel on 3 sides. The staff were very warm and welcoming. We called them from the station, and they drove us to the hotel, which is about .5 miles from the station. The location is at the beginning of the beautiful Okutama river valley west of Tokyo. The Ishigami hot spring is located on the property, near the river (but you can only see the pump house). Further into the valley there are things to do such as visiting Mount Miyatake, etc. Some rooms, the dining area and the hot springs bath all have peaceful river views. As a traditional hot springs hotel, there are no showers or tubs in the rooms, although there is a toilet and sink. The traditional Japanese rooms have tatami floors and futon bedding, which is laid out when you are at dinner. There are some Western rooms as well, with beds. The rooms and facility are very well maintained and spotlessly clean. As you enter the bath, there is a changing area with sinks for grooming. In the bath itself are places to wash off before slipping into the soothing mineral water. It was hot, but not excessively so. Wonderful to sit back and look out of the window while your stress melts away. It would be best to understand the simple manners associated with a Japanese onsen bath before venturing in. You have the option of including breakfast and dinner with your room reservation. This is highly recommended in order to enjoy the expertly prepared, locally sourced dishes, which are simply exquisite in presentation, taste and balance. Much of the dinner is served one dish at a time, although some things are cooked right at your seat. While the servings are small, at the end of the meal we were completely satisfied but not bloated. The hotel has a gift shop in the lobby, with unique items from the Okutama area. It was difficult to limit our choice to just a few items. The reasons to stay here at least one night are the exceptional meals and the hot spring bath, along with the natural and tranquil setting: traditional Japan hospitality at its best.

A-yard

Amazing value for such a low room rate!

Reviewed By MelKualaLumpur

Originally we were going to stay with friends at Mitake but last minute the plan went pear shaped. They recommended A-Yard since it is very close to the Mitake Station but cautioned us that it is a very basic lodging. Triple sharing Tatami room costing ¥4000 per person. I decided to go ahead after viewing A-Yard's website but still was quite skeptical since as you know, sometimes hotel's website's photos are very misleading. Reservation was done via phone by our Japanese friend and he said to call the owner for pick-up once we arrived at Mitake Station despite it being only a minute's walk away. We Arrived at 5pm and called Shibata San. He arrived barely 2 minutes later. Very friendly young chap who has lived or visited many countries like Indonesia, Australia, South Africa, etc. (Grew up in Indonesia and traveled to the rest for white water rafting competitions, he is a member of the Japan White Water Rafting Team!) A minute later (walking) we arrived at the Minshuku. It sits at a fork whereby the front faces 7Eleven across the main road while the back where the entrance is, you will reached by an uphill road off the main road. There are only 4 rooms. Simple but very clean, functional and more than adequate. Bedroom has a large window overlooking the 7Eleven. There is a cupboard. You make your own beds. Two bathrooms (Separated by gender). Sento styled, meaning you enter a small bathing area with a hot tub and 3 open showers by the side. Don't worry since you can lock for private use. Upon arrival we found the hot tub to be steaming but we didn't use until our return from dinner, when it was just lukewarm. So, Shibata San must have prepared it for us as we were the only guests since another room only arriving later. Therefore, people, if you find it steaming, don't wait, as it is not those that has heating to remain hot all the time! Wifi is available but only in the large Tatami room, which was vacant when we were there so we could sit in and use the wifi. We even had our breakfast there. I suspect the wifi router is right below this room (Shibata san's living quarter), thus, you can still access wifi from here. The Minshuku has a tiny kitchen with a large fridge, microwave, hot water maker, plates and cutleries. It is fully non smoking but you can smoke right outside the entrance at their provided ashtray. There is curfew at 11pm. Location is really good. As mentioned, 7Eleven right at the back, next to the station and a minute away from the beautiful Mitake Gorge. We had a very good sleep. Pillow was a bit too soft and thin but the futon was good (we used 2 layers). No dreaded bedbugs! Initially there were no towels provided but after we asked they were delivered with no fuss. Overall, it was a really good stay for such a low room rate. "Pleasantly surprise" is an understatement! At check-out Shibata San offered to deliver us and our heavy luggage to a ryokan 2 minutes walk away (A-Yard is only available for one night while we want to stay two nights at Mitake) since he said our luggage were too heavy! Not only that, he even offered to drive us to the cable car station 10 minutes away even though we had already checked out. Truly a nice man.. I will definitely plan to visit Mitake again because of A-Yard the next time I'm in Tokyo. Contact : Shibata Daigo Mobile : 080-1097-5548 Fax : 0428-74-9453 E-mail : [email protected]

Nobori, a Ryokan to Remember

Reviewed By lars706

This Ryokan is nothing short of an amazing experience. If you visit in February you will find your Zen by embracing the cold outside and inside the Ryokan (nonetheless a pair of ski trousers and a down jacket will come handy ;) ) The food is served at 8:00 and 18:00, and is an amazing journey into Japanese traditional cooking. Different tastes and textures. If you are not too scared of trying new things, this is for you. The rooms are immaculately clean and the small Onsen (a large hot tub) perfect for heating you up after a nice hike in the surrounding mountains. Mitake Station is 2 hours from Tokyo central via Ome. I warmly recommend the walk through Mitake town and up through the forest on a mountain road with 800 numbered cedar trees. There is no WLAN offered in the hotel but I managed to receive the Mitake-san-Ome WLAN in the room. All in all, just the Zen experience I was hoping for.
