Great hotel but far from station

Reviewed By ugin38

The service was very nice. Japanese styled room was nice and just perfect for three of us. The buffet breakfast was very nice. They don't have shuttle bus from Nagahama Station so it took quite a long way to walk from the station, but their reply from the booking site mentioned that you can still call them from shuttle if you really need it. The proximity is very tranquil and just near the Biwako Lake. You can get the tickets for event (like the apricot display earlier in winter) and the Chikubu Island cruise at the reception at a discount.

Nice view, fine restaurant and comfortable room

Reviewed By Patrick T

The hotel is at the side of Lake Biwa, the largest lake in Japan. Most guest rooms have a nice view of the lake and the parks along the lake shore. Guest rooms are clean and comfortable. The restaurant provides good quality Japanese and western cuisines. The surrounding is quiet and peaceful. It has been a wonderful stay for us.

Paying £80+ for a room that you can barely move in - total rip-off!

Reviewed By PBrogan

Checking in after 3pm, we were shocked to see our tiny tiny twin room! Having paid 11330 yen in advance in July/August this year, we would have expected a better deal, we could not believe it. We’ve just stayed at the Nikko Nara hotel in Nara and the Riverside Hotel in Gojo which offered double (and triple in the case of Riverside Hotel) the size of this room for a similar price. We took it up with the manager and he was just rude and aggressive to us and giggled with his reception staff - we gave up, never have we experienced such unprofessional behaviour in all of Japan! Also, if they accept international bookings via booking.com etc, they should be able to speak at least a bit of English. I strongly suggest you don’t give this hotel your business

Best avoided if possible

Reviewed By fortstreetboy

I chose to stay one night for its location, tariff and it's advertised non smoking rooms. The hotel lobby has an unwalled smoking area, my room was obviously examining and in a very old state. Even the magnetic door lock was faulty. The bathroom was very aged as was the state of the room and the lifts. Best avoided.

Quite place, great for retreats

Reviewed By JQwin

Went there for a yoga training, there's a high ceiling place for yoga with nice hardwood floor. Big bath area, and nice rooms. Might be too cold during winter though. And might not have enough toilets for large groups.

Like a heaven...

My room had a private open-air onsen and it gave me such a pleasant time! The view to the great lake is so relaxing... The price doesn’t allow me to enjoy this many times so I enjoyed the bath repeatedly :D Food is average for me but it was plenty of eye-pleasant local cuisine.

L'Hotel du Lac

L’Hôtel Du Lac is a “private villa” where you can relax to your heart’s content amidst the natural environment, where the grandeur of Lake Biwa, which spreads out before your very eyes, is interwoven with the majesty of the mountains. You can de-stress and enjoy the time as you will, against the backdrop of this beautiful landscape.Sophisticated guest rooms in simple, modern architecture, and a restaurant where you can enjoy local produce: this is a place where time flows in a way that you cannot experience in everyday life.

Amazing natural beauty and tranquility on Lake Biwa

Reviewed By AbramP4

Private cabin accommodations are comfortable, spacious and well equipped. It was the heart of summer, yet the air conditioning worked great and my room was just a 1 minute walk to the swimming pool and a 3 minute walk to the cool waters of Lake Biwa. The views of the lake and surrounding forest are quite stunning! The restaurant also exceeded my expectations. Michelin quality elevated cuisine, made using fresh local ingredients. My only complaint would be some of the buildings are a bit outdated and in need of a makeover, however I heard the hotel is set to go under a renovations sometime soon. Overall it was a great stay and a slice of real Japan, off the beaten tourist path. Highly recommended.
