Hotel Astra

a real Koprivshtitsa accomodation

Reviewed By saronic

The mountain village of Koprivshtitsa (more than 1000m asl with cool nights already mid-September) is a wonderful traditional place, although a bit of an open air museum by now, with hundreds of mostly local visitors, especially when one happens to be there on their national holiday. In line with the wooden Bulgarian Revival architecture of Koprivshtitsa is also the small hotel Astra at the entrance of the settlement, run by two very friendly elderly sisters, who are all smiles. Their knowledge of foreign languages is limited to a few words in French, but we still somehow managed to make ourselves understood. There is a courtyard with a garden, and on one side are the rooms, on the other side is the breakfast place, which can be used all day by the guests, especially since only there the WiFi works. The room I got on the upper floor with a big terrace in front, was not just a room, but a small suite, consisting of a part with seating arrangements, TV, empty fridge, tea and coffee making facilities. Behind - under a ceiling with a wooden star - was the room with a double bed and reading lamps on both sides. What I also liked here were the views in two directions. The bathroom was basic, with the shower making the whole floor all wet, when using it, but otherwise it was adequate with free toiletries. Breakfast was served at the table and was very enjoyable with pancakes, cheeses, eggs, jams - all of good quaility. One must also mention that the accomodation here is great value.

The host welcomed us really warmly. The house is beautiful, the room is very clean and comfortable. The breakfast was a traditional bulgarian one. We ate at the balcony which has a stunning view to the village on one side and to the forest on the other. On our last day we had a horse riding booked and it was an amazing one houre experience deep into the forest.

A quaint and lovely place to stay

A welcoming house, tucked away in the cobbled streets of Koprivshtitsa. Hosts were good and welcoming. There are parking spaces for 2 to 3 cars in and in front of the property. A decent sized dining room for a big family dinner. The house is clean and quiet itself, with a garden in front and outside seating for a sunny lunch.

Amazing accommodation!

Reviewed By borjabobby

The house is wonderful. In a very Bulgarian revival style. The rooms are cozy and well equipped. There is a tavern and an outdoor barbeque that you can use. The house has a small grass garden where children can play. There is also a very well equipped kitchen adjacent to the tavern where you can cook. The owners are really friendly and helpful. Prices for the accommodation are affordable. Our overall experience was super and we'd recommended the place.

This remains an excellent place to stay

Reviewed By Adrian H

We stayed at Panorama for the third time in three and a half years and have to say we enjoyed it as much as we had previously. Simo, Desi and family do an excellent job and make absolutely certain that you have a comfortable stay and excellent food. In our experience they cannot do enough for you. The location could not be better with a lovely view of the town below, whilst being close to beautiful countryside. Koprivshtitsa itself remains a fascinating place with a number of museum houses, all of which are worth visiting, whilst there is history to be discovered in many nearby towns and villages.

Cosy, traditional house and friendly hostess

Reviewed By edmo6778

Bashtina Striaha is a lovely house decorated in traditional style, set a few streets away from the main square so everything is nearby. There are restaurants and minimarkets within 3-5 minutes walk. Parking is available on the street just outside the house which is very safe. It is a very peaceful area and really quiet at night - the only thing you can hear (if you have the window open) is the small stream which runs down the centre of the street, it is a very relaxing sound. We were greeted by Mariana who spoke excellent English; she was friendly and willing to chat, and available if we had any problems or questions (we didn’t). Our room had windows to the front and back which made the room light and airy. It was a good size with lots of storage and sockets, there was a small table, stools and a comfy chair. It had a proper double bed which was very comfortable; the bathroom was a good size and there was lots of hot water for the shower. Mariana had thought of everything - even down to the cute elephant towels :-) there was good wifi, a big fridge, kettle, cups, a box of plates and cutlery, iron and even umbrellas - which was very helpful as we had torrential rain in the afternoon and evening (the only bad weather of our trip). The guest rooms had their own staircase and door onto the garden which meant you were free to come and go as you pleased without worrying about disturbing anyone. The secluded back garden was very beautiful and would be a lovely place to sit and relax on a sunny evening after a day wandering the town. Unfortunately we only had one night here - we were delayed by the rain on our long drive, so arrived a lot later than planned and had to leave mid-morning to get back to the airport so we did not have as long as we would have liked. Koprivshtitsa is a wonderful town and fully deserves much more time than just a few hours! We would love to return and explore it properly and if so, we will stay again at Bastina Striaha.
