Bahia VIK Jose Ignacio

Great location, terrible bathroom

Reviewed By OC255

Our 'bungalow' was right on the beach overlooking a sand dune and the waves beyond and the hotel was very attractive with multiple pools and common areas. BUT, the bathroom was a huge drawback. It was an open floor plan with no shower enclosure and made entirely of metal. The walls, floor, tub and ceiling were all a brown metal that was rusty and flaking. It was like taking a shower in a shipping container. The water soaked the entire bathroom; when we tried to mop it up with towels, they became covered in a brown muck. And, there was no ventilation so it smelled. I guess the design was supposed to be minimalist, but it was just unsafe and unsanitary. The 'front desk' staff was also disappointing; not very helpful or competent. We were there off-season so the other 'Viks' were closed so we had no other options for restaurants. The coffee was very good, but for the rates that we were paying, I would definitely NOT recommend this hotel.

Staying with the Viks, at-home extravagance is the norm

Reviewed By alistofgorillas

My husband and I stayed for three nights at the Estancia Vik - and we did not want to leave! It was an interesting experience for two reasons, firstly because the weather was very blustery, windy and rainy and secondly because we discovered the morning after we checked in that we would be the only guests for our entire stay. It was like an Agatha Christie novel but in the best possible way. The estancia is sooooo beautiful, if you are an art lover (and of course if you found the Vik brand you probably are), you will love the collected works displayed here. We stayed in the Master suite, which I must say I recommend because its just a lovely room. Huge, dark wood walls, great views, we loved it. We did have a few small issues but I think it had more to do with the fact that we were only two staying at the time, and I believe the hotel was just starting up again in response to the easing of measures in Uruguay. Sometimes the water didnt work, but it only happened three times and was handled fairly quickly so we werent fussed. Food was amazing, everyone who was working there was so personable, so friendly and open, it just made our visit that much better. I am only sorry the weather did not accommodate me so that I could swim in the pool A great time, highly recommend!

Amazing staff and an awesome hotel experience

Reviewed By 242eugenel

The staff at Casa Suaya went out of their way to make my experience memorable and stress-free. The rooms are beautiful, clean, comfortable with a rustic feel and a panoramic view of the ocean. The pool area is kept spotless (despite there having been a wedding celebration on premise a day prior to my arrival). The restaurant is really good with a knowledgeable chef preparing wide variety of food items for all meals (they even opened it a bit early and closed it a bit later than scheduled to accommodate me). There's also a secluded beach that's directly adjacent to the property. Overall, this is by FAR my favorite hotel experience in all of South America and I can't wait to come back to Casa Suaya.

Overrated hotel that takes advantage of the hype of Jose Ignacio

Reviewed By Antonio T

Overrated hotel which has none of the standard conforts an hôtel need; no restaurant or food at lunch and dinner, no tv in the room, no safe in the room, old broken shower, you have to ask almost everyday for hot water, you ear your neighbors going to toilet, walking and talking, no laundry service. I give 2 stars thanks to the staff who is really nice and do its best. It is a pity because the location is cool and there is a real potential to do better.

A great boutique hotel

Reviewed By travelofleo

A great little place - part bookshop, cafe and boutique hotel. The owner and staff were very helpful. A pleasant 10-15 minute walk from the beach. Tastefully built property, made from locally sourced materials makes for an authentic feel. The cafe doubles as a nice place for a drink in the evening too, especially with the outside terrace. If you want to stay somewhere a little more unique than a standalone hotel, you should look no further!

Countryside & Sea

The place is very charming. Each room has its own decoration, the best one of them located in a corner with incredible balcony and great view of the camp and sea (a little bit far (less than 1 km) , as well as the city center and its stories and nice restaurants (around 4 km). The pool is great, seems like into the surrounding woods and luxury beach houses. The place has its own bath inside the room, the breakfast is served from 9.00 (in the room). The people was very helpful all the time, helping with local reservations and general tips. They had a reservation mistake, but the fixed it immediately with a great compensation. The place is not a luxury one,
