Reviewed By FoodieOswestryRight on the beach front but with its own swimming pool which is an essential as the sea can be very dangerous with a wicked undertow which would have you hitting Antarctica, the next ‘land,’ before you could say penguin! The accommodation was ok, the room was named as an ‘ocean deluxe double’ suggesting it’s a better room than the norm when, from what I can make out from the website, it‘s their basic room, next up is a Suite then a Penthouse etc. etc. That’s not to say it was not a nice room. The ‘All Day Menu’ was rather dull and the three-course evening offering was ridiculous at $40 each, plus it was uninspiring. One is a bit stuck though, as there is little option but to eat in or take a long TukTuk ride to find an alternative. We have found with all places, except our first hotel, that portions are generous and a Caesar Salad, which I thought would be a nice ‘starter’ turned out to be the size of a main, fine in itself but not when it was to be followed by a rice and curry main meal! Stuffed was not the word for it. The staff were all friendly and courteous and the service was exemplary as is the norm in Sri Lanka. However, despite quoting prices in USD you can only pay in rupees so are subject to a rather arbitrary exchange rate. We were there to wind down from close on a month of travelling prior to flying home and in that respect, it ticked all the right boxes.

The resort is blessed with incredible views of the Indian Ocean and the lush jungle surroundings! The staff is extremely helpful and friendly and will take care of you the best way possible! The food is delicious and the cocktails are even better! This an absolute hidden gem and an ideal getaway for honeymooners and couples!

Romaya Villas is wonderful place for stay and make for you unbelievable holiday. You can spend your holiday and relax on reasonable price range accommodation with pool, free Wi-Fi and delicious food in the villas you can enjoy your holiday at best. If you have special chance to get for terrace view accommodations.
Wonderful Stay
Reviewed By Lumini_KSOur stay was for two days and 13 people were participated. We have booked the entire village and the staying was wonderful. Food was really tasty and the hospitality of the staff is amazing. Garden area was spacious and clean. Pool was surrounded by the beautiful garden. All rooms were clean and accommodated with Air Condition. Specially the hospitality of the staff can be highly appreciated. Highly recommended for people who are looking for a clam and quiet place with good food and which is not that much far from Colombo.

Reviewed By cristina_5468stylish and clean, the bed was comfortable and the bathroom great. There is a little bit of an outside area for each of the rooms you can enjoy privately. The facilities were amazing, the pool area and lake area were beautiful. The staff were especially good, they were courteous and friendly at all times. One of the best hotels we've ever stayed in. Would recommend highly.

The highlight of our stay was to witness the hilarious antics of the Rishi the owners son. He speaks fluent Sinhalese and German, as well as English. He is only three years old!!!! Amazed. What a star.

This is a mind relaxing place where you can nicely spend your holiday with happiness. Besides the important amenities such as a swimming pool nestled beneath surrounding trees, friendly staff, free Wi-Fi and free breakfast, the most important reason why guests are interested in this hotel is the attractive location.
A sensational stay in the jungle of Nirmala Villa!
Reviewed By MooliKingMy partner and I stayed in two rooms at Nirmala Villa, one older and one new. Unfortunately there was a little mix up with the room and for some reason the one we booked had been booked out just a couple of days into our stay, forcing us to move inconveniently, however the room was at a heavily discounted rate due to the post-covid reboot of the country's tourism sector so we didn't get too upset. It is for this reason I cannot give 5 stars, but despite that I have only good things to say. The new rooms are really slick, clean and well designed. They let in tonnes of light from all directions, the bathroom is spacious and well equipped (+ hot water), there is ample storage, a mezzanine and best of all, the beds are ludicrously comfortable! Breakfast is delicious and more than enough to see you through 'til dinner time, and it differs daily unless you tell them otherwise. The room tends to stay cool due to its size and spaciousness, but there is of course AC too. The upstairs rooms with a mezzanine have no kitchen, but the similar downstairs villas do. The pool is wonderful, there is so much nature to see just eating breakfast and looking across the central jungle of the estate, and the staff are on hand 24/7 for anything you need. In addition, as strange as it may sound, it is rare to find a bin anywhere in Sri Lanka yet Nirmala Villa has them in abundance - it's the little things! There are also 3 outdoor spaces to this villa: the front porch area, a private side patio and the rear patio too. It is run and maintained by a really lovely family who work hard to provide excellent service - and they do. Not only are they friendly and welcoming, but very relaxed too. The owner is like Sri Lanka's answer to James Brown; I love his style! The whole estate is very beautiful, and there is much to explore and many places to sit and relax. The second room we stayed in was the older apartment style villas. Spacious, clean, a ridiculously huge bath and great bathroom, a kitchen, some beautiful and ancient furniture, AC and fans and all in-keeping with the Sri Lankan style. The classic daily blackouts across Sri Lanka are a nuisance, but the staff put out candles along all the walkways and outside all the rooms and they also have a back-up generator that runs the lights only. The location of Nirmala Villa is also desirable with it being less than 10 minutes walk to Habaraduwa junction or about 2 minutes on the bike. It is far enough inland that there is only the usual noise that you find anywhere in Sri Lanka (monkeys, dogs, birds and god knows what else), but it is close enough to be very convenient. Habaraduwa is pretty much in the middle of the south coast between Hikkaduwa or Galle and Matara, so you are equidistant from the desirable places whether you take a left or a right from the junction. All in all, the whole estate is stunning, clean and well designed, the staff are very friendly and helpful, the location is great, the rooms wonderful and I really enjoyed the service they provide too. Tabula Rasa Villa boutique hotel is a stylishly elegant, painstakingly restored 200-year-old colonial villa, redesigned and owned by a Dutch architect. There are four cozy, comfortable rooms with king-size beds, AC and mosquito nets, free Wi-Fi, daily housekeeping and a continental style breakfast every morning. Guests can unwind and enjoy cold drinks beside the villa’s swimming pool surrounded by lush plants and palm trees. Nature and high -quality architecture complement each other seamlessly: both inside and outside the villa there are cushioned lounge chairs that provide shaded respites from the occasional shower or overbearing sunshine, allowing for music listening, reading and relaxation. A perfect temporary escape from busy urban stresses and demands.

Very spacious and ideal for the likes of our group - 3 generations - with expansive indoor and outdoor space and garden, wonderful pool and large rooms with en-suite. Set up in the hills a short tuktuk ride from the beach and Galle. Jaya was a wonderful host and chef - we really didn’t want to leave and made for the best Christmas ever.

plenty of peace, great design, + delicious food
Reviewed By 00_janakiBieshu Beach Hive is a true oasis on the south coast. Once you pass the forecourt separating the house from the road, it feels as if you have stepped into a wonderland of calm. It is a privilege to be in such a well-designed building, and the pristine beach outside makes it feel like you are at the center of anything a human could want. Aruna, the manager, contributes considerably to this sense of well-being — he is a model host, able to get any information requested. He is passionate about food, and breakfast turned into a request for lunch turned into a request for dinner, because we couldn’t get enough of the amazing flavors Aruna can produce! We were a group that included a couple, friends, and a baby, and we surfed in Midigama and swam, etc. with great pleasure and ease from this location — but time spent just being at the house, with kind staff always available, a comfortable swimming pool, and excellent food, was the biggest treat of our weekend trip from Colombo. Highly recommended!!

The Garden House is set in an acre and a half lush tropical garden with a large infinity edge swimming pool, overlooking coloured paddy fields. It is within easy reach of the walled city of Galle (listed as a world’s heritage site) and close to the glorious beaches of the south coast. The carefully renovated 1870s, planter’s house provides a welcoming retreat which is luxurious yet informal. The emphasis is on relaxation with discrete but attentive service. The whole 5 bed rooms house can be rented as a private villa or the rooms and the garden cottage can be booked on an individual basis. The garden house is ideal for a family get together, a group of friends or any special events. Everything can be arranged to make your stay perfect, what ever the occasion. The house comes fully staffed with experienced, English speaking housekeeper, cook and outdoor staff. A full laundry service is available. Meals and drinks can be taken in the shade of the large, south facing veranda overlooking the gardens and paddy fields. Locally caught seafood with tropical fruits and vegetables are the ingredients of delicious and imaginative menus that change daily. Special diets can be catered for.The Garden House is located in the unspoiled village of Ginigalla approximately ten kilometres outside Galle. The beaches of the Indian Ocean are just a ten minute drive away.
