Reviewed By Dave N‘Old’ Ettlingen is a beautiful medieval town with lots of eateries and photo opportunities at every corner, and Hotel Engel is right in the middle in a perfect location. The staff are friendly and helpful. The rooms are a bit basic and some are also quite dated - but they are clean and the beds are comfortable. The bathrooms are a bit on the small side but I was only there (again) for one night, so who cares as long as it does the job? There are lots of restaurants nearby, including an ok Italian (Pizzaria Portobello) sharing the same courtyard. Last time I went I was impressed by Padellino restaurant all of one minutes walk away. Breakfast is basic stuff but ok. All in all considering the very reasonable price, comfortable rooms, friendly staff and great location it’s a winner.

Worst Hotel Ever - don’t go there
Reviewed By te_we_hhPer year I am traveling around 100 days for more than a decade now and I must say that I have seen good and bad hotels. But this one is really the worst that I have ever bin to. Plus, with 100€/night, it was in the price range of a normal hotel. The counter where you get your keys was completely messy, the floors had the smell from the below restaurant and the rooms renovation was far overdue. Carpet, toilette & brush was not clean, room phone was disconnected and laying in some shelf. Old and crappy furniture. No hair dryer. Payment was “cash only”, no (credit) cards (even though the stickers on the front door said something else). The reason why we did not immediately leave to find another place was that it was late and we had to leave early and the beds seemed to be clean enough for one (short) night. Never again!
