DO NOT BOOK AVOID AVOID AVOID!

DO NOT BOOK THIS HOSTEL! RUDE OWNER, RUBBISH FACILITIES AND FALSELY ADVERTISED. I have never met a more rude owner in my entire life. We booked a room via booking.com which included air-conditioning. When we arrived we were told that we would have to pay an extra $10 for air-conditioning even though there was nothing stating this on the booking and it stated that A/C was included on our booking confirmation. We showed this to the owner and he told us that it was booking.com’s fault and that they have this issue all the time. Well if they have this issue repeatedly, why are they still using booking.com and passing the blame to them? Take some responsibility and do something about it. He was very rude and spoke to us disgustingly, offering no solution. After shouting at us, he eventually told us told us to leave and that we wouldn’t find a better place. Every hostel we have seen in Leon is 10x better than this one for the price. The hostel doesn’t even have a swimming pool. No wonder the hostel was empty when we got there. With such a rude owner, poor customer service, poor facilities and paying a ridiculous price for air con when it says it is included, I am sure the hostel will go out of business very soon! AVOID AT ALL COSTS! You can EASILY find somewhere much nicer and better quality for money with better staff! (Examples: the spot hostel, lazy bones).

Lovely place with a beautiful garden and great food and service. The rooms are perfectly decorated and it was really nice to have the little pool to relax in during the afternoon. There was an error with our reservation which was the fault of Agoda, and the owner worked with us to correct it. Don’t book with Agoda, but definitely book a room here. ?

Worst attitude I’ve ever seen

Reviewed By _O8236ZY

The worst attitude I’ve ever seen. I cannot return to my country because of the war and the owner told me “You are not that broke if you are travel the world” and charged me money for the booking I’ve never used. I don’t normally post negative reviews but here I feel that it’s a matter of justice. I’ll describe the situation below so that everyone could decide for themselves if they want to stay here and be a customer of this business. I’m from Ukraine and now I’m temporarily in Nicaragua because due to the Russia-Ukrainian war it’s not safe to return to the city where I used to live. The situation there remains unstable and dangerous. I booked two nights at this hostel. I didn’t read the reviews or anything (which was my mistake). I simply choose it because it was the cheapest option and I’m now obviously pressed for money. At the border crossing from Honduras to Managua, some unexpected issues occurred and the officials told me that I had to go back to Honduras and wait. I immediately notified the hostel stuff via a chat on Booking and explained the situation. I politely asked them to change the dates of my booking or cancel it without the penalty due to the force majeure situation. I also told them that I couldn’t afford paying for the accommodation where I didn’t stay because my budget was pretty limited. In response, the hotel owners charged me the full amount for two nights and deleted the chat. Also, they didn’t reply to any of my messages or to my email. I couldn’t believe, thought, that someone could treat their customers like that and came to Managua to talk to the owner. When I came to the place, the owner seemed pretty nice, but his attitude changed once he found out that I wanted to ask for the favor of getting the services I’ve paid for. I wasn’t offered any compromise or, God forbid, any help. He also lied to me that they had to send some people away because of my booking. I know that it’s not true because I checked Booking several times, and the beds in dormitory were always available for all dates. Basically, he just kicked me out and I had to walk with all my stuff for 50 minutes alone in Managua LATE AT NIGHT. Probably, he decided that I was wealthy enough to afford a taxi but I’m not. I do understand that business is about making money but at what cost? Are thing going so bad that the owner really had no choice other than taking money from someone who’s going through hardship? I didn’t ask for any charity or something like that. The money has already been paid. The man stated no particular reason why I couldn’t use the money I’ve paid for two nights to stay at least one night. He just kicked me out because he CHOSE to do so. Therefore, dear travelers, decide for yourself if you want to finance such an institution.

Réception staff are there to help and make sure you have everything you need! Upon check in the young man working reception kindly helped me haul my massive suitcase up to my room! Last but not least, the owners, well, they were also so fabulous! They have the kindest hearts as they have « adopted » a stray dog that is quite ill. It was beautiful to hear that they are doing everything they can do save this dog that has been very neglected. Please stay here or visit their restaurant when you’re in the area! Casa Oro Eco Hostel

Casa Oro was the first hostel and surf school in San Juan del Sur. Before that it was an obligatory spot on the historic gold route through Central America. Today, Casa Oro is the first eco-hostel in San Juan del Sur, part of the Circulo Initiative, a family of for purpose businesses in pursuit of regeneration. Tourism growth and development often leave destructive side effects for cultures, communities and the environment. It doesn’t have to be like this though. We find inspiration in how nature works and use this as our compass for holistic creation. In everything we do, our aim is to leave places better than we found them. So far, it’s working. -- Just a hop, skip and a jump from the beach, Casa Oro offers a variety of budget-friendly accommodations designed with conscious backpackers in mind. We have both dorms and private rooms available. All of our dorm beds come equipped with privacy curtains for your convenience. The second and third floor boast a balcony that wraps around the entire building. A scrumptious breakfast is included with any stay along with free Wi-Fi, lockers (bring your own lock), free filtered water and access to a communal kitchen. Friendly vibes and hugs are also included at no extra charge. Our beach shuttles are conveniently located just outside the front door, surf school is downstairs and there’s even a RestoCafe/Bar, so all you’ve gotta do is roll out of bed and everything’s at your fingertips. We’ve also got donation-based yoga classes regularly.

Room had a chemical smell. Very Noisy on the night. No vibe. Breakfast though was pretty good although they didn’t bring what we ordered…Again Bad Bad Staff.

Highly recommend taking a kayak for a half-day. The only downside is slow Internet, but I don't think the hotel can do anything about it being so remote. A great place to stay overall.
