Finca Mystica

Fun stay at a Beautiful Garden Oasis!

Reviewed By luv2snkl

Finca Mystica is located on the far side of the island of Ometepe. It was created 15 years ago by an American couple named Ryan and Angie. There are several charming casitas, with a bed and bathroom, as well as a larger dorm for communal stays. The grounds are lovely. I enjoyed walking on the Monkey Trail, where you are pretty much guaranteed to see howlers. The staff are very friendly and helpful as well! There is a restaurant onsite they serves delicious, locally-sourced food at very reasonable prices. Ryan is a great host. He seems very laid back, but always delivered on his promises, and was very helpful arranging activities and transportation. While there, we rode horses one day ( best horse ride ever!) took a guided kayak trip in a marsh on another, and on the last day we took a cab and visited a zip line and had a swim at a local water hole. I very much enjoyed my stay there!

The hotel is very rustic but very clean. Is in the middle of nowhere but very pretty. I didn’t do the hike they offered because it took too much time. You really need at least 2 nights in order to do all the things around there. I definitely will come back to do the hike.

Ecotourism? A Party Hostel with a more or less green thinking

Reviewed By P374FAchristiang

We stayed because of a recommandation from a friend at El Zopilote from the 2nd until the 5th of January 2020. We camped there in our own tent. The workers and some of the volunteers are very friendly but most of the Women behind the desk are very unfriendly. They had no Information about the Trails around the hostel, no Information about collectivos or the chicken busses on the Island. Only a few numbers of Taxi drivers for 22$ per Taxi. The normal price is 20$ per Taxi, not 22$ and you find collectivos from Moyogalpa to El Zopilote for 100 Cordobas per Person and the other direction. But when you ask them for a Bus, they lie to you and say, there is no Bus or collectivo. They only want selling Tours. One of the Hostel-dog peed on my girlfriends jacket during our dinner in the Restaurant, they didn't care about it. We complaint about it and they say, they will wash it. They didn't clean the jacket. The smell after "washing" was the same. The food and the Pizzas (Tuesday and Saturday they have Pizza nights) are very good but expansive, even on the Island and they say everything they sell in the Restaurant is self-growing at the El Zopilote Farm. And for this, its not cheap. And of course, its not true. Most of the plants and vegetables are not from the farm, they are from the surrounding farms. That we learned during the free Zopilote Farm Tour. The Pizza nights are the party nights, alcohol, very loud music and some strange people (including some of the volunteers) from all over the Island. Because of the barking from the owners and volunteers dogs (up to 10 dogs), the Jungle Sounds were not hearable, even for us in our tent! All the time after ordering the food, the same unfriendly desk-womens couldn't remember to the people who ordered the food, so sometimes they brought it to another people or it takes 2 or 3 tries to find they right people. The Yoga lessons are free and very good, depending on the Yoga teacher. When we checked out, they wanted to charge us 4 instead of 3 nights and meals, we didn't ordered. In total 20% more then we must pay! So in this case we were very lucky to have our own list with all of our paying. After a long discuss we didn't have to pay their Bill, only our, the right, bill! We don't recommend El Zopilote after our stay, there a lot of cheap and good Hostels with including breakfast nearby. And in the hostels you can cook your own food and meet normal people and normal volunteers.

Thank you so much La Bastilla and staff. We had a fantastic 3 night stay here. The birdwatching morning walk with Rodrigo was excellent, the food was terrific, everyone was friendly and helpful including helping us with a flat tyre, the estate is beautiful with lots of bird life and good scenery, the rooms are comfortable and very clean, and the hot water was much appreciated. I highly recommend a visit to this ecolodge. English is spoken by a couple of people, and as always a bit of Spanish helps.

How much more you want if you stay at a paradise- like caribean tiny little island, at a place, far away from crowds, loud noises and civilization?? This is Dereks Place on Little Corn Island! I was there when the world shut down for the second time in the Corona crisis. Ana and Derek, the hosts, and their two children treated me like a member of their family! So sweet and warmhearted welcoming! The huts are so beautiful, Robinson-styled, very clean and creative. The food they cook (every night cooked another family member) is just super delicious. And they produce their own gasoline and diesel made of plastic garbage. And the best part was, that I got certified as a PADI-diver with Dana Rae Castoro, a great, passionate and amazing dive instructor! She has just such good and positive vibes that you feel comfortable and trustful with her from the first moment on! I highly recommend her if you want to learn to dive or just to go out to dive and explore. She takes you through the course with good knowledge, a radiant smile and good vibrations! After the course I continued diving with her, even an incredible night dive! Thanks so much for everything, Ana, Derek and Dana, I certainly will be back soon!

best experience on our trip

Reviewed By claudhrus

In July/August 2019 our travel fever led us to Nicaragua. We experienced a troubled and bloody country, but friendly people and many supportive situations. We were two families with children who wanted to experience other cultures, still original nature. At the Bartola river we experienced welcoming hospitality. The community welcomed us in a very nice way, showed us the treasures of their environment and explains to us the form of living together. The families live from restrained and sustainable agriculture. Guests bring money into the community to make purchases and less intensive agriculture such as rice or maize cultivation. We got tents, rubber boots and lots of breathtaking nature and good food. We saw different animals during day / night tours and experienced the production of chocolate. Rare animals are still represented here. Highly recommendable, despite political trouble in the country, here we noticed nothing of it.

Isla del Sol Glamping

Isla del Sol is a private island (islet) located in the archipielago de las isletas de Granada, in the Asese peninsula, at 10 minutes drive from the city of Granada, Nicaragua, and 5 minutes boat transfer from our mainland pier. Large enough for our guests (8 maximum) to feel privileged and intimate, small enough to sense at all time you are on an island, not a shore. We only offer 4 "tree-huts", entirely made of palms and local wood within the canopies of the indigenous Poponjoche trees present on site. For those who matters, Isla del Sol Glamping is entirely solar powered and all our dirty waters are 100% treated and recycled. A small restaurant/bar is available for our guests., We serve breakfast, lunch and dinner. Birds just by your bed, the unique experience of sleeping under a palm tree-hut 10 feet above the water, amazing sunset hiding behind the Mombacho volcano, a small sand beach facing Ometepe (the world unique volcanoes islands located in the middle of a lake), the Surant boat (a vintage wooden boat for cruising our guests), romantic candles dinners, the proximity with the vibrant colonial city of Granada and activities with the local community, Isla del Sol Glamping is one of his kind.

Beautiful experience all around

Reviewed By LaVitaeBella09

We only met David over the phone and email while planning our trip, before he fell ill. He seemed like a lovely person who was very proud of his place, someone who would take care of every detail so you would enjoy the best possible experience. He certainly must be a wonderful person since neighbouring friends from the Zopango island (Mauro and his wife, Coni, Margarito and his wife Angelika) are stretching out to manage his place and take care of his guests while he recovers so travelers and his business don't have to suffer. One can see that this mans heart went into building and running this place. His staff, super sweet and cook extraordinaire Dona Flor and shy but super kind and hard working Francisco, seem to be very fond of him and very loyal. They do an excellent work and the place is maintained beautifully. Flor's cuisine is delicious and Francisco is up early every morning raking all the leaves, putting away hammocks and furniture if there is rain... We can't say enough of how kind and accommodating everybody was. Since we stayed 4 nights, half of the time we had the island to ourselves. On the last night the guys arranged for us a romantic dinner with candlelight in front of the Mombacho and provided a "babysitting service" (they all loved our baby daughter and often offered to care for her while we ate). The nests are lovely and very comfortable. Waking up on there was a one of a kind experience indeed. The bathrooms were always clean and our towels/sheets changed every other day. If possible, stay on the side where the hanging chairs are. There were less bugs, more breeze and the lovely sunrise colours come into your cabin. All this said, this is glamping on an islet. There is no wifi and there are lots of bugs and toads. You must be comfortable with this so you can enjoy the beauty and peace of the place. You should also bring some mosquito repellent and be mindful of using the lights at night (helpful to scare toads away but it also attracts the bugs), and always keep the mosquito net and your luggage closed to make your experience more enjoyable. Best wishes for this place and David!!!

The place is great! Very very beautiful and quiet. Great choice of breakfast included with the room. The food is good. The room is confortable but hot even with the fan. It poured one night and water got inside. There are animals everywhere! The staff is the downside. The owner lies... a lot so you take tours with him. Hes always hovering around guest to push tours on them... the lady owner seems to be bipolar.. one day she's very nice and 2 seconds after very stern. Great location. The bus starts and end up in the backyard.
