Top 10 Hostels hotel in Dresden, Germany

April 26, 2023 Diedre Savory

On the banks of the lovely Elbe River, the German city of Dresden is lush and green, filled with forests and gardens and parks. The city is rich with cultural and artistic history; the great operatic composer Wilhelm Wagner debuted a number of works here in the 1800s and, today, an independent light opera company keeps the classical art form modern and fresh. Culture vultures will love the Gemäldegalerie Alte Meister and Grünes Gewölbe museums, and architecture buffs will salivate over the mélange of styles reflected in the cityscape.

We were looking for a simple stay for our family with 2 adults and 2 small kids, and the family room at a&o is exactly what we needed. The staff is speaks English, is friendly and very helpful. The rooms are clean. We didn't have any food there, so can't comment on that.

Fair Priced Hostel Near City Centre

I have to say the staff was helpful! They had accidentally charged my stay during check-in although I had already pre-paid, and they knocked on my door to alert me of the mistake and apologized profusely (although it was no huge deal) - I would have come down and established it the following day but I had a long day of travel. Anywho - the rooms were very comfortable (beds) and had plenty of space for baggage, and even a desk. I appreciate rooms with a surplus of ports for chargers! Bathrooms were consistently clean and the showers were enjoyable warm. Breakfast was easy to access from the lobby. Cons - Rooms were cold. I even wore my scarf one night due to the chill factor in the room. Would recommend a thicker blanket during the winter months. Breakfast was fair - could have had more options, it was the same each day I was there. The location is a bit far from all of the attractions Dresden is famous for, but on a nice day, it was an easy walk.

Very acceptable

Bagged a twin room with ensuite for myself. Very reasonable price with decent buffet breakfast included. If you haven't pre-booked any dinners you can buy a ticket for dinner (1700-2000) at reception for €5.85. Like breakfast dinner is self-service, the week's menu is displayed in the lift. A bit school dinnerish but edible. Because it's large there can be queues at reception.

It’s Affordable!

Reviewed By P44cka

We booked this at the last minute, and should have known from the onset, that when you receive an email warning you of the hotel, there was something to look out for. Car parking is very poor, on a pavement next to the duel carriageway, the rooms front the raid, and are not sound proofed, so very noisy. That said it was clean and the facilities adequate. Just a shame the advert could not have been clearer, as from the photograph, it looked palatial. Booking.com, done it again, stating full accommodation, when it was half empty, ‘shame on you’ let’s hope they go the way of other businesses that have been dishonest to the core customers with really unrealistic imaging and statements. Internet free but unreliable.

Comfortable and convenient

Great hostel in an excellent location close to the Neustadt and a 15-20 minute walk from the historical district. We stayed in one of the private rooms which are in a "flat" type arrangement with a shared bathroom in the block across the courtyard from the main hostel. The room was clean and comfortable and the staff at reception were friendly and helpful. There is a great/pub restaurant in the same complex and the hostel does a discounted breakfast there which is recommended.

Good size room but limited parking

Reviewed By KatieSmoli

Nice family room with large bathroom. Around 15 minutes by tram to city centre (take number 12) You can get tickets in the machine at the tram stop. Decent breakfast. Good value for money. They advertise parking but there are literally 4 spaces. Lucky for us a lady working in the restaurant below advised us to park on the street for free. Keep in mind only one side of the street is free, the other side you have to pay for in the parking meter (first hour is free though). They leave the key in the box for you to check ourselves in which was fine with us but if you need anything they are only in the building until 12 o'clock.

Cheap, clean and convenient.

Don't judge a book by its cover, said a previous reviewer, and he/she is right. It is in an unattractive part of the city, the wrong side of the city for the old town and the wrong side of the tracks for the new town, yet convenient for both. Its big advantage is the open space around it: lots of off street parking. It looks rather sad on the outside, but inside it has been renovated and the staff do a fine job in keeping it clean. The dorms have comfortable single beds, not bunks. Bed linen and towels are provided. Each room has its own bathroom. I found the staff helpful. There is some noise from the nearby railway tracks and road traffic but the double glazed windows cut it down.

The worst place to stay

Reviewed By YanaVladilenovna

This hostel is the worst place. The owner of the hostel did everything to ruin our staying in this beautiful city. We knew that the time for check-in was very limited, however we informed the hotel in advance that we would come late, at 01:00 at night, which was OK for the owner according to his letters. So we booked and pre-paid the room. He promised to send all the information to our mobile phone but something went wrong. At 12:30 at night after driving the car for 7 hours we came to the shut doors of the hostel... Nobody opened the door and nobody picked up the phone when we called the emergency number of the hostel. So we had to find a new place to sleep at night. In the morning we tried to enter this "Narnia" again, but the doors were still shut. The good thing was that the owner finally found some time to pick up the phone. The bas thing that he was really rude to us and told us that it was our problem that we couldn't check-in time. I wonder if the guy knows what the client-service is. In the middle of the day we finally met some worker in the hotel but he didn't speak english and refused us to give the keys of our room. After an our the owner came to the hotel. After a "very polite" talk we figured out that he had made a mistake and sent information about check-in to the wrong number. But according to his logic it was again our mistake. The guy was shouting at us and said that "it is my hotel, i'm the boss here and you will do what i tell you to do". I can't understand how such people can a manage a hotel. So if you want to ruin your vacation and feel all the rudness of a SunShine hostel dictator, you can come (but only from 15:00 till 20:00)
