Where to Eat in Dresden: The Best Restaurants and Bars

July 26, 2017 Sachiko Swiger

On the banks of the lovely Elbe River, the German city of Dresden is lush and green, filled with forests and gardens and parks. The city is rich with cultural and artistic history; the great operatic composer Wilhelm Wagner debuted a number of works here in the 1800s and, today, an independent light opera company keeps the classical art form modern and fresh. Culture vultures will love the Gemäldegalerie Alte Meister and Grünes Gewölbe museums, and architecture buffs will salivate over the mélange of styles reflected in the cityscape.

Perhaps not surprisingly bearing in mind the name, the decor and setting reflected the early 20th century. However I would have expected that the food would be a little more inventive. The four of us had a selection of the specials, The meat ball in particular was pretty tasteless and the dumplings stodgy. Whilst this is meant to represent the cooking of a grandmother, not all grandmothers are good enough cooks to run a restaurant. Filling and adequate, not a great eating experience, but a great venue and friendly staff

The atmosphere on the first floor was a bit like a canteen, not very cosy. The brewpub on the ground floor looked very nice, though. We had to take the table upstairs because we did not have a reservation...
The food and beers we had were fine, nothing out of the ordinary, but that's what we expected.

Although we made no reservation for this restaurant we were accommodated immediately, luckily for us they spoke very good English because we spoke no German, we both ordered Tenderloin Steak, it was absolutely to die for, the food and service were so good that we returned to this restaurant the following night, the owner even took the time to come out and introduce himself to us and welcome us to the town.

We came here because of the many positive comments about this place - and they were right! Very professional, very nice location, very good food and vine. We choose the 5-course set surprise meal - they won't tell you what they will bring, but trust me it as all delicious! And all this for € 35 (8-course-menu 45 €!) Come here as a couple or with friends: you will always like it.

Really nice place to get breakfast. The food is cheap (4.5 euros for scrambled eggs, bacon and toast), and excellent. Especially good coffee and milkshakes as well. Atmosphere is friendly, making it an excellent place to meet a friend or publicly break up with a crazy girlfriend.

The location used to be one of Dresdens best spots for independent Hip Hop and Elctronic Music. It turned slowly into a healthy and yummy safe bid for local sustainable and ecological lunch and dinner. You can come here with your friends, family and casual business meetings. You will love the place with Dresdens best selection of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks which is unfortunate still rare in Dresden.

Restaurant Daniel

A good meal creates more quality of life! For Daniel and his team, always the respectful and conscious handling of raw materials is the most important thing! The food for the kitchen in the Daniel restaurant is Daniel Fischer mainly from the region. He knows his producers and offers to his guests an important transparency in the cultivation and origin of the food. Daniel Fischer always serves the seasons adapted dishes, for which every product tastes for itself and does not require any flavor supporter. Because at a time when we are more and more saturated with all sorts of flavors, spices and glutamates, the restaurant Daniel offers you selected dishes and drinks and thus the way back to the original kitchen. The best basis for a good meal is the PURE own taste of the product! Restaurant Daniel is personality and honesty. A concept without schnick and schnack expands with offers from beers, wines and spirits from the region. The close co-operation with the producers from the region is made "experienceable" for the guest.

Having been to FACIL in Berlin two days ago this was an interesting comparison.
Daniel's is more straightforward, here the ingredients are the key, there is less theatre and more focus on the food.
It reminds me of Attica in Melbourne Australia before it became a "starred" restaurant. There is the same integrity, the same passion.
You MUST visit this restaurant before it becomes too popular to get in.
Bloom in the Park in Malmö is real theatre.
Daniel's is real food.

This place was such a great find!!!! Tripadvsor, thanks for the reviews. The food was simply exceptional. We both offered the tasting menu, one regular and one vegetarian. Every course was interesting and exciting. I hope they are after a Michelin star, pretty sure it's on its way. Priced very reasonably. Love it, love it!!!
