Top 10 Hostels hotel in Berlin, Germany

April 25, 2023 Concepcion Newsome

Home to some of the most significant historical sites of the 20th century, Berlin is a bustling international destination. A large city, many of Berlin's neighborhoods were in fact once independent towns. They were cobbled together to form the "Great Berlin" in 1920, and their town centers still reveal elements of this era. Today, nothing is more important to a Berliner than his or her "Kiez" (neighborhood) and the "Kiezleben" (life in the neighborhood). From the loud, wild, artsy, and young streets of Neukolln to the family-friendly avenues of Prenzlauer Berg to the quiet and sophisticated corners of Charlottenburg, Berlin's neighborhoods have something for everyone.

The Circus Hostel

Since 2001 we’ve been standing proud on Rosenthaler Platz, the mothership of The Circus overlooking one of Berlin’s busiest squares. You’ll find us in the heart of a lively nightlife and cultural scene in the centre of Berlin and within walking distance of many of the city’s famous sights. There’s always something going on thanks to our regular programme of tours and events to help you experience the best of Berlin, and not only do we have our own microbrewery producing excellent craft beer but The Circus Hostel is also home to the one and only Hoff Museum, dedicated to the man himself.

One of the Best!

Reviewed By csberry86

Situated at U-Bahn Rosenthaler. You can catch a train from Brandenberg Airport which costs €3.50 and be there within 45mins. Online check-in enabled smoother check-in at desk. Towels are a €1 to rent. They also have a fridge whereby you can purchase drinks. I stayed in a 6 bed dorm which we fortunately had to ourselves. Bunk beds are well built, providing privacy and a shelf with USB points and light. Showers and toilets are separate but clean and functional. Amazing water pressure! Basement bar has cool vibes with great beer and cocktails. Only complaint: the cafe/breakfast area. It’s open to general public which may provide difficulty when queueing or getting a seat. Breakfast was good value for €5.

Me and my friends stayed in a dorm for 8 people. The room was with bugs, ants and an awfull smell. We maid a complaint in the receiption and the only thing they did in the day after was remove the garbage. One of my friends had to vomit because she was very sensitive to the smell. We complaint again in the second day and they told us that they didn't cleaned the rooms before we arrive because there wasn't a house keeping. Not a good experience at all.

Sunflower Hostel

In 2001 Sunflower Hostel Berlin opened its doors for guests from all over the world - an island of independent budget accommodation. Sunflower Hostel still embraces the idea of "Old School" attitude of offering a bed in a central location and a multicultural, creative and colourful environment, where communication, cultural exchange and meeting other travelling guests is more important than a television in the room.

It was my second time at Sunflower Hostel and I'm looking forward to the third! Great atmosphere with bar-reception that is open 24*7. Perfect location (quiet & central). The hostel does not have a guitar or a chess board, but you're not meant to chill at the hostel anyway, go out an explore Berlin!

Social but low quality

Reviewed By Canukarg

I only stayed in this hostel for two nights, and I wouldn't have wanted to stay there any longer. It was not very well located (a significant tram/train ride or long walk away from anything you'd want to see or do), and it was not as clean as other hostels I have stayed in. That being said, the social atmosphere was terrific, and the bar/restaurant was excellent.

a&o Berlin Friedrichshain

The mother of all a&o’s, in the Boxhagener Kiez! Lively, urban, and quintessentially Berlin: brick takes the place of marble in this old factory building with 225 rooms, situated only a five-minute walk from the Ostkreuz S-Bahn station. With a barbecue area a guest kitchen and bicycles for exploring the city. There’s also a volleyball court and some hammocks to catch your breath after Berlin has worn you out. Featuring a lounge with bar, table football, billiards, and karaoke – the best way to end a brilliant day.

I was robbed while I was sleeping

Reviewed By dchoro424259

No locker in a 8 bed dorm meant, that I had to leave my belongings next to me while I was sleeping. I woke up to realize, that my wallet and phone was stolen. If I didn't have my friend with me, I would be stuck in Berlin with no way of going back home. When asking a receptionist for help all he gave me was just a number for police and told me, that he can't do anything about it. I don't fully blame a&o hostels for a theft, but having lockers in a 8 bed dorm would solve this for me.

Kindest staff of any place in the world

Reviewed By lleebahr

The Hotel Big Mama is an incredible value in terms of its rooms and in a really cool area with beautiful places to walk by a lovely canal. They have a Hour Hour and full bar, have breakfast and delicious coffee. But, without exception, they have the kindest most helpful staff I have encountered anywhere in the world. As a single woman, non-German speaker my first time in Berlin during the times of COVID, I had a lot of anxiety about everything from where to get my Covid test to fly home, to safety about walking. Every staff member made me feel welcome, was incredibly helpful, and was a unique and interesting person to get to meet and connect with. There is nothing more important when you are staying somewhere you don't know than feeling you are valued and can make connections with people. I am deeply grateful to the staff at Hotel Big Mama for making me feel at home. A huge shout out in particular to Marlen, Mila, Joanne and Walid-- THANK YOU for making my stay in Germany a welcome one and taking such good care of me.
