Find out what German restaurants to try in Cologne. There are 2,000 years of history in Cologne, and visitors here will find everything from Roman towers to Gothic churches to fine examples of modern architecture. Cologne has a variety of museums, too—check out the Museum of Applied Art, the Museum Ludwig and, if you have a sweet tooth, the Chocolate Museum. Be forewarned, though—the gift shop at the latter will utterly ruin your diet.

We were quite pleased to be able to reserve a large table for 11 only 6 hours before dining. Only negative ... very long waits for drinks and service. However, the place was completely packed at 6:30 pm, in the middle of high season. Food was typical for a Brauhaus - schnitzels, wursts, etc. I was the only one adventurous enough to try “Hummel un Ääd” (Heaven and Earth) - a local favorite, comprising a mixture of fried black pudding with onions, apples and bacon. Not for the faint of heart, certainly. One of the richest tasting dishes I’ve ever had, and I’m not sure I’ll get it again (though I did enjoy it). The local Sünner Kölsch went very well with it - and I’m not a big Kölsch fan. Be aware that beer in Cologne appears to be generally served in 21 cL glasses (not the typical 33 cL), and is on the expensive side. If you’re looking for a classic Cologne culinary experience, this is the place to go.

We made a table reservation but when arriving ⅔ of the tables were empty, no tourists but locals. The furnishing is rustic. Menu list offers extensive meals. Staff was friendly and welcoming. We ordered "Schweinshaxe" and "Sauerbraten". Result: substantial. The taste of the "Schweinshaxe" was strange, the "Sauerbraten" was average with much to much gravy. So all in one: food was everage, no special quality; reasonable prices.

Two of us visited for dinner. Busy, buzzing place.Excellent, interesting menu. Had the deep fried camembert (superb) followed by the double lamb chop. Which was huge, tender and superbly well cooked. My partner had the big sausage and potatoe salad and pronounced it excellent.Fast efficient service. The very good "refill my beer glass till I say stop" method, which works well.Would definitely return

If you look for straightforward food taking textures and flavors seriously, the "Hase" is a great pleace to go. The food is not too elaborate but focuses on the individual ingredients. We had difficulties choosing from the menu - it had so many tempting dishes on it. The risotto with quail was just perfect: the quail tender and the rice to the point. The scallops were super nice and not at all dry, they were combined with artichocs and that was delicious and fresh. The main courses were great, too, but I often find the starters more interesting. Again, the ingredients were well chosen and tasty. If anything, I'd enjoy more vegetables and that is because they were just yummy. The wine menu was looking good, too. It is unfortunate that wines in German restaurants often are that pricy - 3 to 1 from retail price is just someties quite expensive. We chose two half bottles (great that they have a fine selection of those, too) - and both were delicious. The service changed flawlessly between German and English. We appreciated the extra mile the team went so we could enjoy a great time. And it's true, it's not very spacy in the restaurant - quite a few tables. We were lucky as our table stood alone.Overall, I look forward to my next visit...

The restaurant is located in Ehrenfeld. One of the multi-cultural quarters of Cologne, a little Turkish though. Parking in front is sparse. The interior is decorated with a lot of wood with pottery and brass stuff. The menu is not lengthy and lists most of the Cologne specialities. The wine menu has the same length. The food and the wine is good but don't expect Michelin style level.Try the Aquavit aperitif with Flöns. Flöns is a Cologne style sausage. And try the Reibekuchen which is another speciality. It's a fried potato cake. The service is nice and humorous without being impolite

Yes, they can be rude. Yes, it is difficult to get a table. Yes, you are not ‚in Kansas anymore‘ ;-) but, this is one of the best pubs in all Cologne! (and easy to get to via S-Bahn)If you are looking for the best draft beer brand in Cologne (Päffgen) served fresh and cold, and the best pork chops in the whole country (double thickness, based on two ribs), then this is your place. There is a reason why people line up in front of the very old building one hour before they open!Tip: You might be able to make a reservation for 4 (or more) but only for 7pm (if you are less, just tell the waiter that the others got sick). Fun fact: The owner passed, however it is operated very well. The owner once refused to serve Bill Clinton since the secret service demanded to close the brewery for the public. Lommi, the owner, responded that we will not close his pub to his regulars just because of one person. Think about that if you get in line...

While on business in Cologne, some hotel guests recommended Restaurant Brucken. Upon walking in, we were greeted with warm smiles. The outdoor seating was booked, so we were sat at an open window to the outdoors within the restaurant. The service was outstanding and the food was delicious. The menu offers tapas, in which we ordered the Tzatziki and also the Sheep Cheese drizzled in honey and sesame. Both were fresh tasting and vibrant! For main dishes, we ordered the schnitzel and pork back steaks. Both were amazingly flavorful, cooked just right, and well complimented by delicious fried potatoes and mushroom sauce. The portions were huge and we could have easily split a meal. Receiving good quality German schnitzel is sometimes a challenge, but this establishment hit high marks! We will definitely return!

I had seen the reviews for Sonder and thought we would try it. Despite the long walk from our hotel by the river we found the restaurant easily and were seated early with a friendly welcome by a young man who said he was brought up in Eastern Germany so apologised for his excellent English! He explained the menu to us and we had a couple of courses, shared a desert and had a bottle of wine, a beer and two bottles of water. The food was brilliant, the home cured mackerel, the bulgar stuffed peppers and the marinaded salmon with glass noodles were all fantastic as was a citrus creme brulee. Good value too at about 85 euros. Would highly recommend.

We made advanced reservations for a Sunday evening and were very pleased that we chose this restaurant. It was a few minutes walk from the train, away from the tourist center of Koeln. We were promptly seated and given a menu with a variety of seasonal and classic Schnitzel dishes. I ordered the pumpkin and my partner ordered the mushroom cream sauce. We both thought they were the best Schnitzel dishes we'd ever had. We don't eat veal, but the pork was delicious and tender. The breading was light and crunchy - almost like a Southern USA cornmeal texture. It was truly heavenly. The portion was incredibly large and we wish we'd shared one - however, it was so delicious we ate a lot more than we thought we would! We definitely would recommend this place and would gladly return when again in Koeln.
