Top 10 Free Things to do in Gdynia, Northern Poland

A small fishing village until the 20th century, Gdynia was rapidly built into Poland’s largest and busiest sea port after World War I. As a result, it’s mainly a very modern city. The most significant older attraction is the 13th-century St. Michael the Archangel Church. Two museum ships in the harbor, a destroyer and a frigate, are also popular with visitors. Gdynia has a thriving cultural life and in September hosts the annual Polish Film Festival, sometimes called the “Polish Cannes.”

There are cliffs here , which are a great place to enjoy views . The proximity of nature and a nice place to relax, and those beautiful views with great landscape. I walked through Rwdlowo woods and along the beach to reach Orlowo pier. Although the paths through the woods require watching and the signage is minimal, the walk along the beach was very relaxing but slow going. Both the woods and the beach were among the highlights of my stay in Gdansk. Three odd feature of that walk were: firstly, seeing evidence of fires lit using forest wood on the beach and people scrambling through the fragile root systems of the cliff side trees; secondly, the woods are full of birds (woodpeckers... etc) and animals (I even saw a boar and her piglets feasting of windfall apples near where I was staying); thirdly, innumerable couples hold photo sessions after their wedding near the pier... which is either endearing or annoying depending on your point of view!

Large shopping center located approx. 500 - 700 mtr from the City Hall with tens of shops, cinema and excellent bars / restaurants where you can really enjoy good food with family and charge your batteries for further shopping. The place is very clean, safe and well maintained. There is a huge 3 level car park under the mall (on the right side) and conventional on the left side and outside as well. Tip: try to use the right one instead of the left which is always very busy because of Auchan supermarket located above. I would also not suggest to use car park outside if you bought a lot of things (long distance to walk).
