The Field Berry Farm

Reviewed By TriciaAnnW - Johannesburg, South Africa

Field Berry Farm is a working farm south of Johannesburg. It is about 30 minutes drive and well-worth a visit, especially during berry picking season, which is about January/February. You can pick your own berries and pay for what you pick. There's also wonderful coffee, smoothies, and light meals for sale. The kids can bring their bikes and ride on a track, or had fun on jungle gyms. What I really enjoyed was relaxing in comfortable surroundings and people-watching, and an amazing friiendly welcome from the ladies who run the farm.

Irene Farm

A working dairy farm in the city is not something one would expect to find nowadays. Situated in the heart of Gauteng, in the beautiful village of Irene, the Van der Byl family (now in their fifth generation) have generously welcomed locals and visitors from afar, on to their farm for many years – allowing young and old to enjoy the dairy farm experience without having to leave the city. With its rustic farm feel, Irene Farm has never lost its old-world charm although it has expanded and developed its offerings over the years. Two restaurants on-site (The Barn and The Deck), a great kiddies playground and areas to stroll around whilst enjoying the farm animals in beautiful surrounds make it a memorable family day out. If you are looking for farm style, home baked goodness and fresh farm milk, then a visit to The Dairy Shop situated at the entrance to the farm is a must. In addition to this, it’s a wonderful venue for weddings, kiddies parties and special occasions.

My first visit and reminded me of a Cape Wineland. People everywhere enjoying good food, lots of picnic spaces, cows being milked and granddaughter loved the visit to the calves and streams of water and the fountain. Delicious milkshakes and had a lovely Banting salad. Lots of play area for children. Cloakrooms look like Harrods in England, very posh. Lovely atmosphere and get together of families and celebrations.
