Find out what Central European restaurants to try in Lindau. Lindau (officially in German: Lindau (Bodensee)) is a major town and an island on the eastern side of Lake Constance (Bodensee in German). It is the capital of the Landkreis or county Lindau, Bavaria, and located near the borders of Austria (Vorarlberg) and Switzerland (St. Gallen and Thurgau). Weinstube Frey

I’ve been travelling through Bavaria for three weeks including a few days on Lindau. The food throughout the trip has been variable with few highlights but Weinstube Frey is one of the exceptions. From the outside you could easily miss this restaurant especially as the restaurant itself is on the first floor but seek it out and you won’t be disappointed. The restaurant is beautiful. Taking you back several hundred years it’s panelled walls, ancient beams and glorious windows truly set the scene for a memorable meal. Like other restaurants in Lindau dining is casual as most people are on holiday and don’t necessarily have the appropriate clothing for a more formal experience. Service was exceptional for Lindau where I have found most restaurants busy, lacking in atmosphere and very much “ production line”. The staff in Weinstube Frey, although busy were welcoming, friendly and efficient. The menu is quite small but nether the less there is something for everyone. My Zwiebelrostbraten ( steak with fried onions) was exceptionally good especially the accompanying sauce. The house wines sourced very locally are also very good.Overall this was one of the best restaurant experiences, particularly for Lindau. It’s offers great value for money, caring staff, great location and excellent food. I highly recommend you try it and don’t forget to book,

After a morning in a natural habitat in Austria, just like ver the German border, we stopped by Lindau for lunch. My sister recommended this Greek restaurant to us for lunch. We were immediately seated and soon after ordered our food. Our girls had the children's chicken nuggets, my sister had ordered a Greek baked cheese for starters while my husband and I shared octopus. That was delicious. For the main my sister had souvlaki, my husband had trout and I ordered grilled squid with cheese and tomatoes with tomato rice. The food was cooked very well. No complaints from us.

We stayed at the Adara Hotel and were very impreesed. Breakfast is included with eggs as ordered, and a fine European breakfast choice. Service from the morning staff was good. We also had dinner here two evenings during our stay. The food was so well prepared that I could not help dining a second night after comparing other local menus. The chef has a special talent for combining ingredients. The flavors blended perfectly in each dish. I had the gazpacho, bass/ravioli and second night steak!!! All were fantastic. The steak melted in your mouth and the flavors were expertly melted. We also had the cheese plate, vegetarian artichoke/polenta dish, scallop appetizer, shrimp entree.....we have no complaints!! As a compliment, our waiter both nights was fantastic!!!! Wunderbar!!! He was organized, we'll versed in the menu, and attentive. Again, I can not say enough about the hardworking staff at this restaurant/hotel.

Wissingers im Schlechterbrau

We only had one night in Lindau and our hotel had recommended 3 or 4 restaurants in the town (for German cuisine) and as this one was only a couple hundreds away from where we were staying we choose to eat here. The restaurant had quite a few tables in its rear garden, so although we had not booked and the place was busy (and this was a Monday) we got a table no problem. I got the impression there were a few locals eating here as well as us tourists. We tried struggling with the German menu but in the end we asked for an English menu. The service was good despite it being busy and there were only one or two staff doing the waiting. I had the local fish which was nice as was the chicken that my wife had. So there were one or two variants to the normal German menu and I think that the good was the most arty we had had during our trip. With a couple of beers, soft drink and coffee the hill came to just over 50 euros, which has been the going rate for us. So this was a good pointer by our hotel, we would recommend it.

We picked this restaurant from the trip Advisor reviews and wernt dissapointed. The food is good quality German fair. Not expensive. One thing surprised us at first is that we were sharing a table with another couple. Once we got over that, it was interesting to meet some locals (and this does appear to be a local's spot) and made for an interesting evening. We enjoyed the meal sufficiently that we went back the following evening as there was plenty of options to choose from the menu.

Lovely meal at this very friendly and welcoming restaurant. The owner was lovely and very helpful. No problems serving a gluten free meal for my husband which was tasty and delicious and homemade by the owners wife....The food was all homemade and very well priced...great advice given on best wine to choose also.I would recommend pre booking as this restaurant is very popular and busy, although we did manage to get a table within 15 mins but in the summer I don't think that would be possible.Delightful and helpful owner who was happy to speak English to us as well....we will definitely return here when in Lindau again.
