Lindau (officially in German: Lindau (Bodensee)) is a major town and an island on the eastern side of Lake Constance (Bodensee in German). It is the capital of the Landkreis or county Lindau, Bavaria, and located near the borders of Austria (Vorarlberg) and Switzerland (St. Gallen and Thurgau). The coat of arms of Lindau town is a linden tree, referring to the supposed origin of the town's name (Linde means linden tree in German). The historic town of Lindau is located on an 0.68-square-kilometre (0.26 sq mi) island, which is connected with the mainland by a road-traffic bridge and a railway dam leading to Lindau station.

We spent the better part of the afternoon wondering the streets of the old town, beginning with a stop at a Christmas street vendor for a brot and warm glasses of gluhwein. Walking around the town is like being in a time machine, beautiful, historic architecture on cobble stone streets.

This old Town Hall building is magnificent. It was built between 1422 and 1436 after replacing a winery. Unfortunately we could not see inside but the exterior more than made up for the disappointment. The shape of the roof edge is particularly striking, not to mention the old clock and sundial.

I trust a God, yes i am.
Europe has a plenty of beautiful churches, but only a few people attending the Sunday service.
This medieval Cathedral is one of them.
Built between 1748-1752, this renaissance architecture is a masterpiece, i can not find them in my home country.
For me it is #1 place to visit in Lindau

I very much enjoy classic fairy stories always have done and having travelled through the Black Forest to Lindau I was overjoyed to find this quaint little tower that gave a nod to these tales. Its fun for adults who grew up with the stories and I would assume its something small children would be amazed by, if they were aware of these tales. A good little scene for those photographers too.

We didn't quite know what to expect, but tourist information had the last tickets available for our last night in Lindau, so we went for it. Luckily we had German friends with us to translate the conversation afterwards, when the audience is invited backstage to talk to the artists. Magic Flute did not require much translation.
Puppets are simply amazing; their movement is more convincing than many human singers achieve in operas. The music is a specially adapted recording, so it's pieced together from multiple real Performances. Very enjoyable. Oh, and as any real theater there is a bar, interval drinks that you can preorder (recommended)

if you are close by it is worth going to Lindau for a few hours. Lindau is a little island just off the Mainland, in Lake Constance/Bodensee. The information office is opposite the railway station. You can collect a map of the island from outside the office. But it is easier just to wander the cobbled streets and admire the old buildings. The place is small enough that you won,t get lost. An interesting mixture of shops, high fashion, antique, 2nd hand goods and a couple of charity shops..plus the usual stacks of cafes and restaurants.
Go inside the main church at the Marktplatz..it is a weird mixture of different styles inside..it was so strange that we will always remember the church at Lindau. Wont say anymore so I don,t spoil the surprize.
It was a bit cool so the area was not the crowded. It was a good place to visit especially if you have not viewed many German small towns. An enjoyable few hours.

The Diebsturm attracted our attention when we walked by it. Its colorful turrets and its colorful tiles stands out! We discovered that this used to be a prison. At least the prisoners had a great view over the city! For a prison, it must have been luxurious as I never have seen such a beautiful prison!
It was built in 1380. However it almost was destroyed in 1817. However a bricklayer named Johann Jacob Götzge saved it from destruction. I am certainly glad about that!

This is also simple from outside but once you enter this is spectacular.
Once more ensure you look up to view the organ pipes. This church has a second floor but the gates were closed so you cannot go up. Wonder why the second floor is needed or what it is used for.
