Not really sure what the deal is here....under new management, thinking management have never been in business before. Really bad service, owners openly bad mouthing staff behind their back. First time this happened I gave them the benefit of the doubt...you know bad day? But a second and a third time! Seriously people your staff are working really hard for you...if that's how you talk about your staff and each other in front of your customers what the hell goes on behind closed doors.....hubby and I won't be back...disgusted!Nisnav, I believe your review is a little unfair as there is no context behind your review. Judging by the date you posted and after checking our timeline of events for the business and personal life, my wife unfortunately suffered a miscarriage at the beginning of that week and we were not back until the following week after you posted. Also, we received some complaints about a staff member who was being rude and abusive to other staff members while we were away. That staff member is no longer in our employment. This is why I believe your comment about management is unfair to both us and the rest of our wonderful staff.

Quick service, yummy fresh fish and regular and kūmara chips - only slightly too salty for me. Would definitely go back though. :)

We dropped in here just by chance prior to leaving Ashburton for the drive to Blenheim. What a surprise ! As soon as the owners (mother and daughter) found out about my wife and daughters interest in felting, the four of them all got together for an impromptu one hour felting tutorial. Aside from that, it is definitely worthwhile checking this shop out and giving yourself plenty of time to do so.

Taste Cafe

This is a fairly small cafe in the larger Countdown shopping centre. It was extremely busy so we were fairly sure that it would be a good choice for lunch. Taste Cafe didn’t disappoint. My friend had a corned beef sandwich which had homemade corned beef while I ordered the potato and bacon salad. Both meals were delicious. Service could not be faulted...they were both patient and efficient. A definite recommendation.

Stopped off for some breakfast on our way back to Christchurch after a short break in Geraldine. First visit here so not sure what to expect but we were pleasantly surprised. What a lovely little café with very friendly staff. We both ordered the cooked breakfast – one with poached eggs, the other scrambled. I’m not overly keen on the bog-standard hash browns so they were happy to swap them for spinach, and as he isn’t that keen on tomatoes, was allowed to swap for another sausage. Our food came out in a timely manner and looked delicious. The poached eggs were perfect and we both exclaimed how good the sausages were. I particularly enjoyed the side of tomato sauce, it certainly wasn’t your standard Watties that’s for sure. It seems this place is very popular with tourists and locals alike, and when we arrived there was quite a queue for the amazing selection of slices and cakes. We’ve often driven past this place on our way down south, but next time we are definitely stopping to pop in again because we were that impressed. Well done guys!

Lovely café in a small shopping area just off the main highway 1 south west of Christchurch with plenty of parking. Quiet location, outside seating area, good selection of cakes and pastries and lunchtime meals. There is a wool/knitting shop adjacent. Very popular with locals. Good place to stop if you’re travelling on highway 1.
