Bolton (/ˈbɒltən/ ( listen) or locally [ˈbɜʏtn̩]) is a town in Greater Manchester in North West England. A former mill town, Bolton has been a production centre for textiles since Flemish weavers settled in the area in the 14th century, introducing a wool and cotton-weaving tradition. The urbanisation and development of the town largely coincided with the introduction of textile manufacture during the Industrial Revolution. Bolton was a 19th-century boomtown, and at its zenith in 1929 its 216 cotton mills and 26 bleaching and dyeing works made it one of the largest and most productive centres of cotton spinning in the world. The British cotton industry declined sharply after the First World War, and by the 1980s cotton manufacture had virtually ceased in Bolton.

My Husband & I received some vouchers for The Cherry Tree as wedding presents after me recently raving about how nice it was when we visited a few weeks ago. This visit was quite different. The food was of the same excellent standard as our last visit (I would definitely recommend the black pudding scotch egg) but the treatment from the staff wasnt! We were advised 3 times before we had even ordered drinks that we only had 2 hours at the table. I dont think telling guests this many times is very welcoming when they have only just entered the restaurant!Having visited hundreds of restaurants in the past I have never been given a timescale of how long to take eating and drinking as a paying customer. It was quite off putting and I'm not sure I'd rush back again purely because of this.Hello Diane B, Thank you very much for your recent review of the Cherry Tree. We are sorry your experience didn’t match your expectations 100% this time. As you can see from our reviews we pride ourselves on giving only the best customer experience possible. Please trust that we have taken your constructive comments on board and we are working on improving our guest experience. Please contact our customer relations manager on [email protected] We would love to make things right if you give us another chance.Best regards, the Cherry Tree team.

Tried this quaint little place after seeing it on TripAdvisor.Restaurant is small with a small menu too. No complaints from me and everything was clean and tidy.We went for the Yeeros which I guess is similar Gyros. It came in reasonable time as everything was cooked fresh. It tasted delicious and now we know where to go when we want a nice quick authentic Greek snack. Thanks Taste if Greece!

Nick's Restaurant

We were celebrating a special occasion and from the reviews I had read, I selected Nicks as the place to celebrate. I had always wanted to dine here due to it's great reputation amongst Boltonions. We admittedly booked late and weren't surprised to be led out of the main dining area and up the stairs to the smaller dining area which some would say is more intimate, others less atmospheric.I don't really care how a restaurant looks as the food should always be the star. However, the tables were very cheap looking with faux wood on the surface. There was a collection of seemingly unused wooden boards stacked against the fire exit, which was rather alarming. The menu was chalked onto the black boards on the wall and we were both somewhat taken aback by the prices. The dishes appeared to be about £5 more than the average restaurant. I told myself that this wasn't an average restaurant and the quality of the food would shine through. My partner started with the scallops and I the tandoori chicken. The scallops were good, the chicken was a very small portion and rather dry. Not one for normally choosing steaks at a restaurant, I opted for the fillet steak as I thought that for nearly £29, it had to be a fantastic piece of meat. My partner chose the seabass.I'm a bit of a steak connoisseur and when my plate arrived I could see that this piece of meat was overcooked. I pressed it and there was no give in it and it was bone dry. It certainly didn't feel medium. Cutting into it left me with no doubt that I would be sending it back. It wasn't right. It was also small and I couldn't understand how it was priced so highly. I have seen far better quality at local supermarkets and can cook a steak far better than that. My partner tried a mouthful and actually spat it out into a serviette saying it was unpleasant. I sent it back.My partner enjoyed the fish but ate two of the accompanying chips and half of a roast potato. Even after craving carbs all week, she didn't eat anymore, reporting that the chips were greasy and the potatoes obviously cooked from frozen and having an awful taste. I agreed. The waitress brought my steak back and it had now been cut in half. She said that the chef had informed her that it was cooked as requested. I disagreed and didn't particularly want anything from the menu. I ate the plain white rice that I had ordered with the steak. We weren't charged for the steak but the bill still came to £62. The draught peroni was 5.50 a pint and the glass of house white wine, almost £7. We thought this extortionate. We were both bitterly disappointed by this restaurant and felt ripped off by the price of what was a very average meal. Had the meal been up to standard, I would happily pay the high prices.I will never return to this restaurant.

We visited Poppins Tea Rooms on a Groupon High Tea Voucher. We have had several Groupon vouchers, to various restaurants in the past and we can say this is one of the best ones. The two lady staff present were friendly and attentive and the high tea was very tasty and filling. We had a look at the menu and the choices looked varied and reasonably priced. We noticed that the soup and bloomer seemed very popular amongst the other guests, and the sandwiches and meals looked equally tasty. We will be back to sample the menu again. We're so glad to hear you enjoyed your visit, and that our staff lived up to Poppins standards! Thank you for taking the time to write this kind review, we look forward to seeing you again :)

Ordered food off the 2 course menu...starters garlic mushrooms with garlic sauce and these where ok, Chicken liver pate which was very good full of flavour what let this dish down was that it came with toasted medium white bread! Would of liked something a little crusty!Mains were fish and chips mushy peas which my partner enjoyed particularly the chips he liked, Chilli rice nachos the chilli was ok but no better than what I make at home and a little underseasoned couldn't taste any garlic which is nice in a chilli all in all everything was ok if anything stood out it had to be the pate but unfortunately wouldn't make us return in a hurry. The pub was a little tired and personally we weren't overkeen on the dining area which was more like a cafe.Thank you for taking the time to review us, we take time and care over every single dish we serve and it's always good to hear some feedback from people who don't enjoy it as much as we'd like.We find that the subtle flavours of our pate goes well with sliced bread but anyone is welcome to ask for crusty bread if they prefer. Our chilli is seasoned with paprika, cumin, coriander, cinnamon, oregano, fresh chillies, chilli powder, chipotle and lots of garlic so it is a shame that it wasn't to your taste.

I had intended visiting the Royal Balti for a long time. We visited yesterday and received a very warm and friendly welcome from everyone in the restaurant. After the popadumms and pickle tray (very tasty) we ordered 2 chicken tikka shashliks with mushroom rice and Jalfresi sauce. The portions were huge, very well cooked and presented. We thoroughly enjoyed our tasty meal which was finished off with fresh oranges and a small tipple. I took home a large "doggy bag" which has gone nowhere near my dogs. I've just finished the splendid food for my lunch today. Highly recommended. We'll be back. Dear geoffreym628We are very delighted that you dined with us and enjoyed your meal.
