Hotel Oosado

Overall we had an enjoyable stay and would stay again on our next visit.

Reviewed By tomizuta1953

This is one of the few left modern ryokans in the Aikawa area. Our room was spacious and the futon bed comfortable enough. I enjoyed the onsen baths, both inner as well as the open air, which were very clean and well maintained. Dinner was a kaiseki style as you would expect in this class of ryokan with a lot of volume including a whole crab. It was ok but I thought they could do better. Breakfast was a buffet. It was quite busy and we had to wait to find a table for six. The buffet was average for this class of hotel (but most likely the best in the area). All the staff were polite and willing to help in any way. Overall we had an enjoyable stay and would stay again on our next visit.

Excellent Choice Close To Ryotsu

Loved staying here with the family. Food provided was top quality. If you’re a fan of sake, make sure you sample a bottle of the local brew at dinner (¥990 for the bottle I ordered and was some of the best I have ever tasted). Rooms are big enough and with great views. Onsen is traditional Japanese but there is an option to book a private bath after 9pm. Worth learning a few phrases in Japanese. There is a pick up option from Ryotsu Port for a small fee. The staff really made our visit to Sado worthwhile.

Perfect stay!

Reviewed By Aleksssa

We had the greatest time at Yoshidaya, I think we could not have chosen a better place to stay in Sado. Several people said this ryokan is old, but it was perfectly fine for us. On the inside, the hotel lacked absolutely nothing, only from the outside it looked discouraging. We booked a stay at Yoshidaya through their website (Japanese version) and purchased a discounted room+meals package. We got a very spacious Japanese-style room (entrance with a rock garden, bathroom, toilet, 2 tatami rooms and a long break room facing the lake) on the 4th floor with a stunning view of Lake Kamo. When we arrived, a tea set and Japanese sweets with toki design were waiting for us in the room. There was an outside bath (open only in the afternoon) on the roof. It smelled pleasantly of wood and offered even better views of the lake. The place did not have soap, but you can take a bottle from your room's bathroom. It was amazing to watch the sunset from that spot, and when it gets fully dark, you can do stargazing. There is also a larger hot spring with the same type of water (I think) on the bottom floor and it is open in the mornings as well as at night. Also, this one has soap and all the other amenities. The dinner at Yoshidaya was exquisite and consisted of around 10 individual dishes representative of local cuisine, which is based mainly on seafood. We even got served a whole crab. The staff prepared our futon beds for us while we were in the restaurant. The breakfast was also large, delicious and nutritious. It costs around 1000 and it sustains you for hours of sightseeing. At around 21, we saw a (free) local dance performance that lasted for around 30 minutes. They happen only when there is enough guests, so depending on the day you visit, you could miss it. We only spent one night here, but we would definitely visit again. It was one of the best hotel experiences we have ever had.

Minami Ryokan

Classic ryokan, wonderful meals, one of the best!

Reviewed By Darekana

High-end classic ryokans can be a bit intimidating. Meals are refined with lots of attention to detail. The nakai-san, the attendant who is taking care of you provide fantastic and polite service. But the interactions can be somewhat distant especially if one cannot speak Japanese well. What I like about Minami Ryokan is that all the staff are very friendly and down-to-earth. The nakai-san introduced us to various elements of Sado cooking and local ingredients and was wonderfully chatty and friendly. The meals were not only of excellent quality and variety, but also the portions were quite sizable. One member of the family was a vegan and the nakai-san offered to adjust the meals for her. We have been to many different ryokans and had great meals and service at all of them. But this little ryokan, hidden on the isle of Sado is definitely one of the best that we have experienced.

Nice traditional Japanese ryokan, right in front of a beach

Reviewed By wandering-soprano

I spent only one night at the ryokan and was not able to explore everything the place had to offer, but the place is reasonably priced, located right next to a beach, and overall a nice ryokan. Their services is no frills, and they let you be and I liked that. (No greetings from the madam once you're in your room, etc.) The bath (onsen) was quite nice. The water was dark brown, and it really warmed you. Their room was clean, but I found some old stains on my sheets and it damped my feelings somewhat. We ate out so I don't know what their dinner was like, but the breakfast was quite nice. Good rice, lots of local ingredients, traditional Japanese breakfast. I don't mind going back there again.

Itoya ryokan

During the Edo period (1603-1868), Sado’s Gold Road connected Aikawa’s gold mines with Ogi Port. Mano’s Shinmachi Road bisects the Gold Road at its center and businesses in this area prospered as a result. ITOUYA RYOKAN is one of its current hot spots. Located near the ocean, we are a three-minute walk from beach access. Our specialties include a chef’s-choice fresh seafood course and a Sado deep-sea-water bath.
