Amazing view and excellent service

I stayed at this inn with my friend in Nov 2019. As soon as you step in the inn, the nice smell of incense welcomes you. In the lounge, you first have some tea and sweets. The entire building is not very large, but all rooms face the river and the creek through large picture windows. The staff was all very nice, polite, kind, friendly, and helpful. Traditional Japanese meals were just fantastic both dinner and breakfast, which you eat at the privately sectioned eating areas on the ground level. Hot spring bath was cozy but clean and comfortable. I really enjoyed this inn. The only thing I want to warn is that this inn is not located in the center of the hot spring village, and you need to get on the bus for a few stops unless you have your own car.

We where two adult and two kids staying in one of the Japanese style rooms. Space is nice for us and the room is good. The atmosphere in the hotel is lovely and Endo san is a very kind and great host. His English is very good and makes it easy for foreign travelers. The place is close to ski resort. If you want to discover other part of this fantastic area, Endo san can give you many ideas. He helped us very much with good recommendations. Fantastic visit to the real Japan

Reviewed By SimonL2790

I have been to Japan more than 12 times and this is the best place. So I went with my parents, siblings and my son. In total 6 adults and 2 baby/toddler (ages 0-2). Part of the family got our own house 5 min walk from the hotel. (The house is also a part of the hotel). My parents stayed at the hotel. Everything was super nice and beautiful. This is the real japan experience, most of the other visitors are non-western. We really liked the food, probably the best authentic Japanese food that i have had on any of my trips, so that is a definite big plus. There is beautiful nature all around. The hot springs were also really nice. The hotel has two beautiful pools - one outside in a small garden. Again very Japanese (No showers in the room and men and women are separated). Since you are out in nature, it also means that it would probably be good to get a car if you want to go on day trips (maybe the hotel can arrange it, we rented a car by Nasushiobara Station). We spent one day just walking around the lakes and small bridges. My son collected a lot of rocks and we sat in their Japanese garden and had tea. The second day we went to a pottery shop and visited a childrens friendly farm. (The farm was really great for my 2 year old son. He rode a donkey and fed a cow) The third day we walked to the local gallery which is fantastic. (small but really great) and i heard there was a daily art walk, but we didn't go. We also drove to the Highland amusement part which was fantastic. A little old but really big and in the middle of nowhere in a forrest. Anyways the hotel is super nice. I would really recommend it above anything else that I have seen in Japan.

Don’t trust this or any of their affiliates

Reviewed By torstenfogp

I had booked this Onsen only because they were supposed to be “tattoo friendly”. But it turned out that was just a scam!!! I found the info from a website called “tattoo friendly” which is a site listing Onsen in Japan where people with tattoos / body art are welcome. I followed the link from the tattoo friendly website to the Onsen website, where there were no statements about people with tattoos were not welcomed in the hot springs, so I proceeded to make a booking via the site “JapanIcan” and prepaid all. Before my arrival I asked my Tokyo hotel help me make travel arrangements, only to find out that the Onsen did not accept tattoos. I contacted all parties but no one were in mood to refund my money!!!! I recommend EVERYONE WHO READS THIS TO STAY AWAY FROM ALL 3 organizations, and find other ways to make you Onsen booking in Japan.

This is a great Ryokan where you can experience considerate hospitality

Reviewed By Taunus_walker

Throughout my travel experience from reservation to departure from this Ryokan, it has been truly wonderful experience. Ryokan's room, amenity, facilities, views and guest services are very well coordinated and harmonized to make guests' stay unforgettable and astonished. This Ryokan amazed me by small but extra ordinal particularity. For example, I found their particularity in tiny welcome snack (marinated radish and mushroom) served in the room, and really considerate Miso Soup (perfect quantity and temperature) at the dinner. Both are not special ingredients and actually served as ordinal menu by many other Ryokans. But this Ryokan does not cut corners for such ordinals. I believe this level of quality can not be delivered without a well educated and integrated team of professional staff. They all treated every guest as "my guest". I finally came to respect team of this Ryokan. If you would like to experience hospitality of considerate professionals, I would highly recommend Yunohana-so Ryokan. 追記)上記英語のレビューを入力したのですが、投稿できませんでした。50文字以上の制限を満たしていないようなので日本語を追加しています。なぜでしょう?

Great food and comfortable stay

Reviewed By TanSS

To get here you need to take the hour long JR bus from Nasushiobara Stn to Shiobara Onsen, and then be picked up by the ryokan bus for another 15mins ride to the ryokan. There’s only one room with western beds. Room is large, clean and comfortable. The food was great and the dinner menu changed for the 2 nights we stayed here. There are 2 rotenburos and they are for your private use with no reservation needed or restrictions. The are 2 gender separated indoor baths. The water is hot and the ph is 2+. Staff were very hospitable and friendly. Although they discouraged us to take a walk to Motoyu Onsen due to elevation changes, we went ahead. It was an hour long downhill walk with hairpin turns to negotiate getting there. But it was worth the effort as the rotenburo at Gensenkan was pretty in autumn colours and the water was hot. Will certainly come back again.
