Reviewed By US_Expat91364As a former Hotelier I can't abide poor service or maintenance. Unlike many of the Uruguayan hotels this place is clean and fresh and very well done. The service is excellent, breakfast great and the atmosphere just fantastic. I live about a 30 minute walk from there and while I haven't had cause to stay there I do recommend it to all of my friends and often go for a relaxing brunch. Their garden cafe is just worlds away from the noise, crowds and traffic of Punta del Este. If the beach is your thing they will outfit you with towels, umbrellas and everything you need for a day at the beach which is 4-5 minutes by car to a beautiful and not crowded beach. But not being a beach person myself I would lay by their pool and read and rest the day away. I highly recommend it! Alas only open November through April!

Reviewed By donatella cLet’s start by saying that we came here because some good friends would spend holiday at the Forest, one of the different villages inside the huge complex under the Solana umbrella, and that we enjoyed finally the option because of the variety of activities the kids can be entertained with ( some free others you pay for them). The Crystal beach is very impressive and enjoyable , even though it can be extremely hot or very fresh ... the beach would not be so far if you hadn’t to cross a very fast and large road with no traffic light under a strong sun.... you must have a car here or else you are cut off. We rented one and our life was better, but this added to the already quite expensive holiday. No breakfast included, only a very small drugstore in the complex, so you spend time and money at food shopping. Finally, a good option but honestly nothing to see with some incredible all inclusive resorts in Brazil.

The house is a restored villa right on Maldonado string with an exquisite taste and amenities of any kind for those who look for a quiet, home like location to spend a weekend, a night or a couple of days. Every corner of the house offers a bit of the family story, design items, comfort seating area for a coffee or cocktail, inside the house or in any of the outside lounge areas it offers. While restaurant is not available onsite, they would make any recommendations for delivery or take in, provide the necessary serving items for you to enjoy an unforgettable meal. We walked though the house and yard couple of times and you always find items to stare at for a while and river looks over the infinity pool you won’t easily forget. It’s also located in the middle of la barra, right in front of a gas station with a shop as a convenience store and walking distance from the great la barra shops also offer anything from clothing, food, souvenirs or deco stores. Breakfast was served with a great selection for fresh fruit, yoghurt , pastries and other items like lavazza espresso and tea, not to forget there natural orange juice, real orange juice. A couple of days you won’t forget about. If cold, there’s a cozy corner with a fire wood chimney will enhance your stay making you feel like you’re in the middle of the mountains. The place also has an patio dining area with a wood fire pizza oven and Uruguayan style grill. All items are available for self grilling as well.

Reviewed By Juan57Nice room price was as expected for Punta del Este.Best resort in the southern cone but worst hotel prices, as may happen in other resorts. Very cool room on to the street 32 degrees outside but very cool , I guess it was still dragging the winter effect. Bathroom was ok and has a 99%( no shuko) universal socket for all electric plugs, never seen that before. Close to everything in La barra walking distance from beach for those on foot. The bed could of been better nice size but hard in the middle. The only thing really disliked was ben charged in advance, for 2 o 3 runa ways you cant treat everyone as crooks. That said I asked for an extra hour to check out and got it.The reception guy was very nice. BTW remember La Barra is 20 minutes ( ni traffic) away from Punta del Este

Since we're always looking for warm places when it's freezing cold in North America, El Refugio ticked all the boxes: pleasant accommodations, friendly owners, and just a short walk from an expansive naturist beach, better anything we've found outside of France. They only have a few rooms in the main inn, but we stayed in the annex two doors down in a small self-catering apartment, which was perfect for us since we are happy to prepare our own meals and save a few bucks. The place is located just a short walk from the famous (and traditionally clothing optional) Chihuahua Beach, which has soft, sloping sands, and depending on the tide, is great for long beach walks where nobody seems to care what you're wearing (or not). The owners are absolutely delightful. Their English is limited, but my Spanish is WAY more so - and still, communication was no problem. They were super accommodating in making sure breakfast met our gluten-free needs. This would totally be a five-star review, except to note that the place has simple amenities, was super clean, but it's not like staying in a luxury hotel. The pool is small but great for cooling down on a warm day, where you can read at pool's edge while watching the iguanas scavage for food. That's WAY more entertaining than it may sound. LOL Great place. We can hardly wait to go back.

Rest, among other things, you will find in Hostal de la Candelaria. You will enjoy breakfast with homemade jams, croissants or freshly baked scones, sweet handmade cakes, natural orange juice squeezed at the time, seasonal fruits and yogurt; everything done with care and hygiene. In our hotel the personalized attention of the guest becomes a constant and not only in a mere title of a cover letter. In the society in which we live today, cold and depersonalized attention has become a common fact, where the individual has lost his vital space and has become a cog in a tape without end. This is no longer the case in the Hostal de la Candelaria, a place that turns out to be an accommodation option different from the rest. All rooms have private bathroom with shower and glass screen and hairdryer. They also have telephone, air conditioning, heating, security box, cable TV and minibar.
Amazing place to stay in Punta. A block from the beach, quiet, clean, modern, and served by the owners.

Nice small hotel almost on the beach

Almost everynight after the beach I read here a book in the sun. Unfortunatelly they were some musquitos on the balcony. I only arrived the day after a lot of rain fel. They next few days the musquitos were gone. Very friendly owners. I loved the breakfast in the garden with fresh fruits and nice strong café. If you love the beach and relax a lot perfect place to be

Reviewed By VcViolaI was booked to go to bouland in 2 days... I was lucky I was here and wanted to know the place we chose to stay the next week... Well... first of all, that it's no a Hotel, not even a bungalow... that was a dirty construction where another person lives when it's not rented. Old an dirty furniture... a lot, Really a lot of trash surrounding the place. Dogs, horses. I was prepare for something rustic, something different... but not that! Even get there it's so difficult! I imagined my self alone at night in that place and almost ran ... In fact I ran... Without saying a word about what i was seeing (dirty, dirty, dirty!) my friend and I went to the car and ran. I cacenlled the reservation without asking her and she called to find another place...when I asked her "and how is the new place" she answerd "Any place is better, cleaner and safer than that!". (And the price is far to expensive... I wouldn't stay there for free anyway)
