Top 10 Bed and Breakfast Inns in Leipzig, Germany

April 26, 2023 Christa Meece

It’s always hard to fill the shoes of someone who used to do your job very well. If you’re the choirmaster at St. Thomas Church in Leipzig, guess whose shoes you have to fill? Bach’s. (No pressure.) Leipzig is closely connected to classical music—Wagner was born here, and Mendelssohn established a conservatory here in 1843. If you’re more of a melancholy, contemporary type, visit during the Wave-Gotik-Treffen, billed as the world’s largest "dark" (Goth, industrial, punk, etc.) music festival.

Fantastic historic gem

LOVED this hotel. It was handy to be slightly out of the centre as this included free parking & it felt relaxing & quiet. The hotel is set inside a converted wine cellar, we read this in a previous review & it would be a great selling point to list this unusual feature on the hotels website. The staff were 5 star, they went above & beyond to help. The cleanliness of the room was outstanding and the decor very modern & far outweighed what we had expected. Very cheap too, we would highly recommend, thank you. (Very nice Greek restaurant close by too)

The SchlafGut premium class - outstanding location and unbeatable prices Three-star quality at affordable prices: Opened in March 2010 the SchlafGut AppartementHotel offers you comfort and ambience in Leipzig's inner city. Built in 1859, the house has been extensively redeveloped with great attention to detail in 2009/2010. From our heritage-protected building, known as "Pragers Biertunnel" within Leipzig, you are overlooking the famous Augustusplatz with the Paulinum, the opera and the Gewandhaus of Leipzig. From Leipzig Central Station it takes just a short walk of 900 meters, or two stops by tram to reach the hotel. Parking space is available nearby.

I wanted a hotel room, not a sauna

Reviewed By DutchMerino

Given the price level of this room it should have an a/c, but it hasn’t. Granted, it’s not listed. But opening a window is not really an option as well. Our room was overlooking a square with traffic lights with too many cars burning rubber at the lights. The reception is only open until 8pm. The paid parking is just outside the building, so not really that much better then off street parking in terms of safety. We didn’t understand the high ratings other have given this place. Maybe when you have no car, are travelling in a cooler period and arrive early it’s not as bad. But in summer I recommend to go elsewhere.

Auenwald Hotel und Apartmenthaus

Worth staying here for the kitchen

Reviewed By rayyoong

We spent six nights at Auenwald Pension and, overall, enjoyed our stay. The layout is one we haven't come across before. The rooms are in pairs, so you use a key to enter an area where there are two rooms, a bathroom and a kitchen. It would be ideal for a family. Your room key opens this door as well as the door from the street, which leads into a passage to the garden, and another door to the building itself if it is late at night. It seems to be one of the most secure lodgings we have stayed in. Through the kitchen there is a balcony overlooking the garden. One negative point is that the beds were rather flimsy. The first time I sat on mine, it collapsed. On investigation it had obviously been broken before, and, though I managed to put it back together, I dared not try sleeping on it, so swapped with my wife, who is about half my weight. We reported the problem next day and they did seem to fix it while we were out, but I still kept my wife's bed to be sure it didn't happen again. On the positive side, the WiFi worked well, TV had at least one English channel (CNN), there was enough space to hang clothes and, best of all, we had a well-equipped kitchen, so we cooked a lot of meals rather than eating out all week. There are good markets around, and an Aldi supermarket is about five minutes walk from the guest house. It was nice to have a fridge, which meant we could keep wine and juice as well as food. Another thing we liked was the cherry tree in the garden, from which we were welcome to pluck whatever we could reach. The shared bathroom was no problem. We had the whole area to ourselves the first night, then neighbours the rest of the week, two men who spoke no English, but were friendly and very considerate in making sure we had full access to the bathroom and kitchen. Location is not too bad, though it seems a poor area. The fifteen minute tram ride was convenient enough, and we did enjoy taking a walk into the city one morning, though it took a couple of hours. If we ever returned to the wonderful musical city of Leipzig, we would certainly want to stay at this accommodation again.

Not a great experience

Reviewed By Chris P

My wife and I were here for 2 days. There are some positives first .... Location is good for accessing Leipzig. Room was spacious and clean. Unfortunately a few negatives that impact upon the overall experience. My wife asked for walk in shower facilities as she is disabled. Shower was fine, but at no point did the hotel warn us that there was no lift and she would need to use the stairs. Shortly before our departure from the UK the hotel contacted us to say there had been a kitchen fire and that breakfast was no longer possible. They offered us either a discount or cancellation, but it was too late in the day to find another hotel so we opted for the discount. When we came to leave we had to show them confirmation of this discount as they seemed unaware of what they had agreed to and wanted to charge the original price. Be aware that the hotel is on a busy nightlife street. You can look out the window and there are 6+ bars, resturants within spitting difference, including 2 directly below. In the summer it gets hot and there is no air conditioning in the room, therefore you open the window and get the noise. Keep the windows closed and you are in a sauna. The Friday was not so bad and things got quiet by 1am, but on the Saturday there was a great deal of activity until 4am Sunday. It was very hot so we could not close the window. There is no-one on reception to complain to whilst this is going on. My wife complained the following morning and was told she should have called the police I would strongly advise if you are using the hotel that you ensure you have a back room or you go at a time when it is much cooler. My wife did complain as she got no sleep and we had a long drive the next day. In fairness the hotel reduced the price after negotiation. So whilst it is lovely, clean and well positioned take care if you are booking a stay. We would go elsewhere should we return to Leipzig.

Worst customer service i ever experienced

Reviewed By Latitude89

I can defiantly not recommend this place. Booked my room months ago. Do to unforseen circumstances, i had to take a later train to Leipzig and as luck would have it, my battery died. When i arrived in Leipzig after a seven hour train ride with no opportunity to recharge my phone, i was finally able to recharge my phone at the main train station. I then went to the place and could see that they provide a key box for people that come a little later on the sign there was even a number you could call when you were arriving after hours. I had to call the number several times until somebody finally answered. When they answered the person told me( in a very rude tone) that i was too late and that because i didn't inform them before that i would come late they will not give me the room! I told the person that my battery died and that they have a box and a number for this exact circumstance. That i did not know where to go( i did not have a number of a taxi as i took one at the train station to drive me). The person just hung up. I was alone in the middle of nowhere with all my luggage god knows what could have happened!! Later when i informed the place that i will share my experience with others. The place told me to be careful or it would involve their lawyer (i got the sms). I mean i know that i arrived later and i know that i should have called but sometimes you cannot do it. What upsets me the most, that they have facility to keep the keys for people that come late that would be no inconvience for them to keep the key in the key box. Even if they would have charged me an extra service fee for this, i would have been fine but to treat your customer like this, is highly unprofessional. I cannot evaluate the place as such maybe it is great but good customer service should be part of any decent hostility.

Philippus Integrationshotel

Reviewed By Kiki W

Morgens hört man die Kirchenglocken nebenan, was mich an meine Kindheit erinnert.
