The mountain water, the fish farming and the tropical garden – a harmonious trio under one roof with three times the appeal, along with an innovative energy concept. The tropical atmosphere, fish farming and alpine setting form a unique combination world-wide. For example, it relies upon closed, resource-efficient material cycles and renewable energies. It reminds us that where it stands today once stood a tropical climate: 250 to 300 million years ago dinosaurs also lived here among the fish: the sturgeon that are bred in Tropenhaus Frutigen. "How the fish came to the mountain": the new permanent exhibition The new permanent exhibition at Tropenhaus Frutigen takes young and old visitors on a surprising journey of discovery. Sturgeon and caviar: the stars in the Restaurant Tropengarten The Restaurant Tropengarten is inspired on a daily basis by the high-quality products from fish and caviar farming and the abundance of fruits and spices from the tropical garden. They are the stars that the kitchen chefs passionately combine with seasonal – usually re-gional – products. The special atmosphere in the restaurant amidst the tropical plants is captivating, as is the cuisine – mouth-watering delicacies that make visitors feel as though they are actually in the tropics.

In der Villa Patumbah – einem Meisterwerk des Historismus aus dem Jahr 1885 – ist das Heimatschutzzentrum Zuhause. Mit seinen Ausstellungen schärft das Zentrum bei Gross und Klein den Blick für die gebaute Umwelt und ermöglicht ein lustvolles Eintauchen in eine andere Welt. Die interaktive Dauerausstellung im Erdgeschoss der Villa ist das Herzstück des Heimatschutzzentrums. Sie beleuchtet das Thema Baukultur aus verschiedenen Blickwinkeln und führt von der Landschaftsveränderung zu konkreten Baudenkmälern – immer mit aktuellem Bezug. Im Gartengeschoss werden Sonderausstellungen gezeigt. Das zweite Obergeschoss der Villa Patumbah kann im Rahmen einer Führung besichtigt werden. Öffentliche Kurzführungen finden jeden Donnerstag um 12.30 Uhr statt. Einmal im Monat führt zudem der «ewige Butler Johann» in einer Theatertour durch die Villa und die asiatische Galerie. Der prachtvolle Patumbah-Park ist öffentlich zugänglich.
