In reference to decades of traditional trade in Nowy Targ, this huge market is held on Thursdays and Saturdays. It is then that the capital of Podhale is experiencing a real siege. Not only residents of neighboring towns, but also neighbors from the southern border (i.e. Slovakia) and tourists for whom this place is a mandatory point on the map of the biggest attractions of Nowy Targ. What is mainly influenced by such a huge popularity of fairs is the vide variety of products offered by the sellers (professional dealers and individuals). Among them you can find: clothing, footwear, leather goods, sheepskin coats, which the whole region is famous for, furniture, electrical and electronic equipment, music; plants (home, garden), foodstuff (including regional cheeses and dryied mushrooms), fresh fruits and vegetables from local crops. Here you might find almost all the same handicrafts sold in Krakow' Sukienice, but at prices in average 30% lower, made by local artisans, and you have the possibility to negotiate prices, since it is a tradition cultivated here for years. In the center of the market there is a big restaurant, polish inn-style, and toilets. The surrounding parkings are free of charge.

Market Hall (Hala Targowa)

I love to visit traditional markets wherever I am in the world- they are what makes travelling worthwhile , a sterile modern mall with a Macdonald's it is not ! There a great market cafe for authentic polish food in the corner of the fabulous turn of the century (last) hall which is architecturally interesting. The coffee/tea shop is an absolute gem unique and definitely a must. You can have a Starbucks anywhere and if that's your thing why travel? Go there and savour its worth it.
