The Saarland (German: das Saarland, pronounced [das ˈzaːɐ̯lant]; French: la Sarre [la saʁ]) is one of the sixteen states (or Bundesländer) of the Federal Republic of Germany. With its capital at Saarbrücken, it has an area of 2,570 km² and its population (as of 30 April 2012) is approximately 1,012,000. In terms of both area and population size – apart from the city-states of Berlin, Bremen and Hamburg – it is Germany's smallest state. This building is a beautiful example of gothic architecture. This building alone was was worth the trip out to Saarbrücken. The streetcars pass right in front of it as well. If you’re looking for public transportation, they are a great and inexpensive option.

While returning to Sankt Wendel since being back in Germany, I was happy to be able to enter the Basilica (which has always been locked on weekends)- A magnificent peaceful spiritual church for one who is seeking to pray in total silence and distractions during this unknown pandemic.
