Things to do in Northern Cape, South Africa: The Best Outdoor Activities

October 23, 2021 Leonardo Torrence

The Northern Cape (Afrikaans: Noord-Kaap; Tswana: Kapa Bokone) is the largest and most sparsely populated province of South Africa. It was created in 1994 when the Cape Province was split up. Its capital is Kimberley. It includes the Kalahari Gemsbok National Park, part of the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park, an international park shared with Botswana. It also includes the Augrabies Falls and the diamond mining regions in Kimberley and Alexander Bay. The Namaqualand region in the west is famous for its Namaqualand daisies. The southern towns of De Aar and Colesberg, in the Great Karoo, are major transport nodes between Johannesburg, Cape Town and Port Elizabeth. In the northeast, Kuruman is known as a mission station and also for its artesian spring, the Eye of Kuruman. The Orange River flows through the province, forming the borders with the Free State in the southeast and with Namibia to the northwest. The river is also used to irrigate the many vineyards in the arid region near Upington.

Wildbird Adventures

Hi I'm Candace, I'm a bodyworker of more than 10 years, & a yoga teacher, but mostly, I'm a long aspiring wild bird. I have a thirst for what journeying barefoot and expanded, in some of the most beautiful places the outside has to offer does for us, and I invite you to experience the joy and glory of it with me. My interest is in the expansion of the feminine and combining what I know to yield body and heart opening experiences, particularly for women, that enliven and enrich.

Physically demanding, but a wonderful experience with a very nice group. I loved the down to earth attitudes an basic camping in a little tent. The food was very good, especially after walking 25+km. Highly recommended if you like the veld and basic facilities and if you are reasonably fit.

Trans Africa Tours and Safaris

Welcome to Trans Africa Tours and Safaris. Let us take you on a trip that will leave you speechless and then turn you into a story teller. Africa hides the most beautiful gems in landscapes and people for you to discover. Come explore Africa with us and we will introduce you to these beautiful places and interesting people. We do guided self-drive tours, travel arrangements, and 4×4 vehicle equipment fitting. We also outsource fully equipped 4×4 safari vehicles for those who don’t have their own. Traveling in Africa changes you forever, like nowhere on earth. Once you have been there, you will never be the same. But how do you begin to describe its magic to someone who has never felt it? How can you explain the fascination of this vast, dusty continent, whose oldest roads are elephant paths? Could it be because Africa is the place of all our beginnings, the cradle of mankind, where our species first stood upright on the savannas of long ago?
