Things to do in Kinki, Japan: The Best Hot Springs & Geysers

July 5, 2021 Florencio Paulino

The Kansai region (関西地方, Kansai-chihō) or the Kinki region (近畿地方, Kinki-chihō) lies in the southern-central region of Japan's main island Honshū. The region includes the prefectures of Mie, Nara, Wakayama, Kyoto, Osaka, Hyōgo and Shiga, sometimes Fukui, Tokushima and Tottori. While the use of the terms "Kansai" and "Kinki" have changed over history, in most modern contexts the use of the two terms is interchangeable. The urban region of Osaka, Kobe, and Kyoto (Keihanshin region) is the second-most populated in Japan after the Greater Tokyo Area.

Dress in hotel dressing gown, swimsuit and flip-flops and cross the (quiet) road, descending to the river by easy stone steps or cross over the bridge (if busy) and try the other side. Enjoy the soothingly warm pool while naturally hot water is conveyed by bamboo piping to your bath. Relax.....

30 minutes in the oldest hot spring in Japan, why not? Could not have chance to see how the water change coulor 7 times per day but really enjoyed to soaked my body in here, watch out for centipedes, we’ve caught one just about time to leave the onsen, have a hot boiled egg and a bottle of hot tea by the well before you leave, Yunomine itself is pretty small so you can continue your Kumano Kodo trails from here too ☺️
