The best available Villas to stay near Mirissa

May 27, 2023 Malia Yoakum

Fringing two sandy bays separated by a rock island reachable at low tide, Mirissa feels hidden away compared to Sri Lanka’s other busier resort towns. While the quiet sands are sprinkled with bars and surf rentals, it’s Mirissa’s May-to-November whale-watching boat trips that steal the show.

Villa Atulya

Set on the Southern coastline of Sri Lanka just a few minutes along the coastal highway from spectacular Mirissa Beach, and within easy reach of Galle or Matara, Villa Atulya offers an idyllic holiday experience. Set in ocean front, this is a home away from home with all required luxury where you can enjoy your holiday without the hustle and bustle of a commercially run hotel. The Villa was designed by the leading Sri Lankan architect, Mr C Anjalendran,a protege of Geoffrey Bawa. There are five spacious bedrooms with attached bathrooms. All bedrooms are air conditioned and offer spectacular views of the Indian Ocean. The antique furniture and paintings carefully chosen by the architect adds a touch of opulence of a bygone era to the Villa and its open verandas facing the ocean. When you are at the Villa all you will hear is the hypnotic sound of the Indian Ocean rolling on to the reef in front which makes this a special place to unwind and reconnect with simpler things in life. The Villa has its own swimming pool and staff ( Manager, Housekeeper and Chef) who will happily attend to your every need.At Villa Atulya you can enjoy the finest home cooked Sri Lankan meals as well as a variety of Western dishes prepared to suit your palate by our Resident Chef.If you prefer to buy fresh fish and vegetables from the market, our staff will prepare meals according to your taste at no extra cost. Alternatively, they can purchase the ingredients as requested by you and the only extra charge will be for transport. Villa Atulya is highly recommended for discerning travelers who can appreciate simple things in life in absolute luxury. Especially recommended for honeymooners.Alcoholic beverages can be brought by the guests and consumed at the Villa at no extra charge. There is free Wi-Fi available at the Villa.

Great for a group holiday

Reviewed By SAR28

We had a great stay at Villa Atulya with extended family. We booked both villas (5 rooms each) & each with their own pool. There’s large garden spaces in both so it’s great for kids or a friendly game of cricket. The villa manager Ranga & his team ensured everyone was comfortable. The food was really good and everyone enjoyed their stay. The sea front right outside the villa is rocky so be sure to pack water shoes or sandals. Having said that, there’s lot of marine life visible in the naturally formed tide pools. To the right of the villa is a small natural pool / Bay Area that is great to chill in (and also for varieties of fish). Further down to the right there are pretty big waves but it’s not suitable for body boarding because of the rocks. I’d really recommend Villa Atulya for a group vacation.

Nature Inn

Located in the quiet and peaceful surroundings of the Mirissa village, lies the charming Nature Inn guest house, where monkies can be seen crashing through the trees and a wide array of birdlife brings every morning to a start. It's run by Pardeep and his loverly wife Chamila, who is a wonderful cook, if you would like to have your meals in their wonderful quaint garden, and their little son Nethika is always willing to practice English or cricket. Pradeep will happily pick you up at the bus stop (Udupila Junction stop) and give you a ride the short distance to the guest house. We look forward to helping you enjoy your stay in beautiful Mirissa.

We stayed one night and wished we could stay for longer. We opted for the healthy vegan option for dinner and it was some of the best food we had experienced on our trip to Sri Lanka. The owner was passionate about healthy, organic produce and we also enjoyed some great Sri Lankan coffee for breakfast. Very peaceful location away from the main road.

Home away from home

Reviewed By HerveGhysels

I just love this place! This family run hotel is just a precious wonder in a yet not discovered place. When I first went there, in 2009, there were only 3 rooms. Now they have built 2 more enormous rooms on the top. The biggest one is really huge. The Gunuwardana family is just awesome. And the beach nearby is just perfect. You won't come across many foreigners but mainly local people, which is exactly what I like... And if you want to feel the fuzzy move of Mirissa, take a tuk-tuk, it is only 15 minutes away... Oh yes, the cuisine they serve you is just excellent and fresh and for a cheap price.

Отличный отель (дом) для семейного отдыха!!!

Reviewed By 430artem

Heaven on Earth!

Reviewed By nderosy

I feel extremely fortunate to have been invited by friends to this beautiful blissful slice of heaven on top of a Hill. Nisala is one of the most breathtaking properties I have ever seen in Sri Lanka! You actually feel the love that has been poured into this property by the owners and designers! There are so many little nooks to chill out in, and the space is just used so wonderfully! We unfortunately didn’t get to meet Jill the owner, but we heard wonderful stories about how the place came to be and what an amazing lady she is by friends and staff alike! The place is meticulously clean and just feels like a 7 star experience you will rarely find anywhere else these days. The staff are always around to give a helping hand with a big smile, and are extremely discreet, we barely knew they were there unless we were looking for them! Ramya the Chef is fantastic, I really didn’t know you could turn everyday groceries into such gourmet culinary masterpieces till I met this lady! The Bedrooms are huge and airy and oh so comfortable, and each room has its own special feature be it a balcony and bathtub that overlooks the ocean, or a massive jacuzzi in another bathtub, more sitting and lounge areas that 18 people couldn’t possibly be cramped in let alone 8! The most gorgeous and refreshing infinity pool with an inbuilt seating area which we spent a lot of time in, the sunburns were so worth it! There’s even a fireman’s pole Incase you don’t want to use the stairs, they literally thought of everything! And if that wasn’t enough, the property has access to a private beach with its own natural rock pools! It was our first getaway of the year and what a way to start this year, thank you Jill for the opportunity to enjoy your little slice of heaven on earth and to Rushika and Mevande for the invite! We will whole heartedly recommend this place to anyone, and we hope we get to see you soon Jill!
