Friendly, tiny hostel!

Reviewed By babamills

Friendly little hostel in a fabulous location in Nagoya - staff were so happy to see us and host us! We checked in early as the rooms were ready and got a welcome drink upon arrival. Four of us booked a family futon room which was very small but OK just for one night. The staff really made our experience lovely and we felt overall that it was good value for money. It is a very tiny hostel so only one bathroom upstairs for all of the guests and the cleanliness could have been improved in the bathroom and common area. Breakfast was optional for 500yen.

Perfect location, superb amenities

The title can actually just speak for itself. I love that this hostel has its own elevator. I love that it offers free-flowing coffee, tea, apple juice, and miso soup. I love how well stocked the shower and powder rooms are. I love that it's just a few walks from Nagoya station, and with a 7-11 nearby. You bet that I'll stay here again when I return to Nagoya. Good job, guys!

They go above and beyond to help you, even when navigating the city. The living and bedroom areas are always immaculate. The hostel is also located in the central shopping and restaurant area and fairly close to Nagoya castle making it very convenient overall. It's a great hostel to spend a couple of nights.

Comfortable beds

Reviewed By KathyS830

We stayed here one night in a dorm room on the 4th floor. There were two sturdy bunk beds, a small end table, and a set of small lockers in the room. There is no elevator, so I'm glad we were travelling light with a small suitcase and a small backpack each. Each bed has an electrical outlet, a reading light, and a curtain. The beds were great! Comfortable with a duvet and extra blankets if you wanted them. Everything was very clean. The hostel is less than 10 minute walk from Nagoya station. The man working the front desk when we arrived spoke excellent English and was friendly and helpful. The hostel has free wifi. There is a bar on the first floor which appeared to be well stocked. We were tired from our long flight and didn't use the bar. You can rent a towel for 100 yen. Showers were stocked with shampoo and body wash. Everything was very clean. There is a kitchen with tables and chairs on the third floor, so you can do your own cooking or just hang out and play games. This is a great place to stay. Highly recommended.

Amazing Hostel

This was my first hostel experience and it was awesome. The staff is very friendly and helpful, and very convenient for English speakers. The staff goes above beyond to help you with anything. I asked for suggestions to restaurants and directions to a local bar and they gave me a list of amazing local restaurants in my budget. Then gave me very detailed directions to where I wanted to go. I woke up early to enjoy coffee in the reception area and the staff was so eager and happy to greet me and my friend and started coffee for us because he wasn’t busy. I highly recommend this hostel for foreign travelers or even locals!

Guesthouse Mado

The building of GUESTHOUSE MADO is a century-old "Machiya". You are able to experience a traditional lifestyle of Japan and enjoy a relaxed atmosphere in the warmth of the wooden house. Our guesthouse is located on the "Tokai-do" which was a main street from Tokyo to Kyoto for "Edo" period. The place "Arimatsu" around here is still remaining traditional houses (Machiya) on the street and traditional industrial arts called "Shibori"(Tie dyeing).

Great place in Arimatsu!

Reviewed By adam d

Stayed here two nights while travelling through Japan. This is a great place to stay on Arimatsu with lots of historic charm. The host was so sweet and accommodating. He was frequently available in the guest house and was very apologetic when. He couldn't be there for a few hours. He gave great recommendations for food and sights around Arimatsu. When he learned that we were interested in Japanese crafts he suggested a trip to a pottery village called Tokoname that was one of the highlights of our trip. Stayed in the mixed dorm with my girlfriend and we had the place to ourself one night. There are small privacy screens between the beds. While there was no curfew all other guests were respectul. Noise was not a problem either at night or in the morning. The shared spaces and bathroom were very clean. The showers are in a separate small building in the backyard, with separate private stalls for men and women. The shower seemed new and was very clean. I highly recommend staying in Arimatsu, especially if you are interested in traditional Japanese textiles. The guest house was very close to the Shibori Museum and some speciality Shibori shops. It is a nice respite from Japanese cities while being easy to get to.

Small little hostel in very interesting district

Reviewed By kYra6

Several reviews on the web let me to believe this is more a hotel than een hostel, would like to make things clear: this is a hostel! :) You are welcomed very friendly by the staff and helped up to your room, but like most hostels there are some limitations to your stay: Be prepared to bring your own towels or rent them from the reception. [at minimum cost] - share the showers - no eating allowed in the rooms - and even for a longer period, your room is not cleaned during your stay. So, definitely a hostel! That said, since it does say it is a hostel, this is a 5 out of 5 stars. The rooms are super clean, the staff is very helpful and flexible if needed, there is common area where you can hang out with friends or future friends. A small kitchen you can use to cook some small dishes. Location is great, the subway stop is nearby, Osu Kannon shopping district with its' many restaurants and bars is just 2 blocks away. In a way you could easily spend your Nagoya stay in this district [which of course you shouldn't] Highly recommended
