Leopard Trails Camp

Well what can we say? We have left here this morning after spending two nights and now on our way to Kalutara and missing the camp already. The whole package exceeded our expectations in every way. The tent was absolutely amazing and when we were upgraded on our second night to their deluxe tent we couldn't have been more happy.. The food was just perfect and can t believe such high class food can be produced in such a setting. It was very quiet which was perfect for us and the ambiance too was perfect. The "boys" in the camp looked after us brilliantly, nothing was too much trouble. Malmi our Safari Guide was just the best...funny, friendly, passionate about his job and an all round great guy? How anyone can put a bad review on here is just beyond me! Safari's in African countries are not to be compared. Yes you don't get to see the abundance of wildlife and nobody here claims that you do! It is an entirely different experience, one which we are truly grateful to now have in our memories Especially the "Air Guitar" Sloth Bear who made our day. Thank you to all at Leopard Trails from the bottom of our hearts xx

Governor's Camp Wilpattu

Great location and clean accommodation

Reviewed By Nedra W

The resort was good and the accommodation was clean. However, with no proper management team the service was sub standard not through any fault of the staff there. The food was tasty but served cold even though we were there on time for our meals. We were very surprised as this company has many other locations throughout the country. Also the road to the premises is appalling whilst the filter system in the pool is not being used and therefore not very clean.

The billboard on the road directed us to LLT Guest House. However, it is no more in existence and is CLOSED. New management has taken over the premises and have renovated it. It is now called "Claughton Wild". We stayed in Claughton Wild for two nights on 23rd and 24th June 2019. Refurbished rooms were clean. Food was tasty.

Went to see leopards, saw them, so 5-star!

Reviewed By FoodieOswestry

We were only there for two nights with a safari into the reserve the afternoon of arrival and a second the next morning and having had a similar experience in India were not expecting the Ritz style accommodation. The whole purpose of the visit was to see the wildlife and in particular, the leopards, so 5-star accommodation was not at the top of the priority list. Our driver was excellent as was the ‘spotter’, one of the chefs who was not needed at the time, and our wildlife expert was just that, very knowledgeable and with eyes like a hawk! We saw not one but three leopards on our first outing with one sitting quite quietly right out in the open as can be seen from the picture. Whilst this was the highlight there were too many other animals and birds to list them all. The tent we had was perfectly adequate, not 5-star but OK for a couple of nights, a living room, a separate bedroom and loo and shower all set in its own area reached by a path to it, and it alone. It was very humid in the tent but a large fan kept the bedroom at a reasonable temperature and my wife and I, on the first night, had the best night's sleep we had had since arriving in the country. Hot water was a luxury at times but as it was very hot and very humid, a tepid to cool shower was rather refreshing. The food was campfire style, actually from a barbecue, but served to the table, complete with a white tablecloth and napkins, which made one feel a bit like Rhodes of Rhodesia even if the meals were not the greatest we have ever had! I cannot speak to the value for money as the stay was simply part of a nearly month-long journey around Sri Lanka so I have no idea how much any one element cost.

Wonderful stay with beautiful surroundings, accommodation, hosts and food!

Absolutely perfect stay.. Our hosts Roshan and Madhu couldn't have been friendlier.. Nothing was too much trouble at all. I'm quite a plain eater and Madhu cooked our meal to suit this for me and my husband had Sri Lankan dishes for our evening meal.. The setting for dinner is very relaxing and enables you to just chill out and take it all in. Roshan explained to us about the safari the next day and what would happen etc.. We paid around £130 for a deluxe room.. Full Sri Lankan buffet Full days safari with guide and jeep to ourselves 6am until 6pm.. Breakfast and lunch packed up to take on the safari which was delicious.. Omelettes.. Rotti.. Sweet pancakes and then dhal and coconut sambal for breakfast and fresh grilled chicken breasts and vegetables for lunch. Plenty of water and drinks are provided also. The safari guide although he didn't speak much English we understood what he was saying and wanted us to do etc. It was a great adventure. Our room was very luxurious with a huge comfortable bed.. Nice powerful shower and TV too. Verandah looked out onto the huge gardens as in the pictures. The couple spoke to us in length after dinner which was lovely and a chance to find out some information about the country and do and don'ts! But equally nice to sit and talk to a lovely couple about life! We wouldn't hesitate to go back and stay if we were in the area again and I have no doubt that they would remember us as they are a very attentive couple. Thank you both for our wonderful stay.. I also have to mention our blue tooth connection in our car. We had tried for a few days to connect it up and Roshan managed to do it.. Took him about 30 minutes but he was determined and in the end sorted it!! Special thanks as we now have our music to travel around this beautiful island!

Your SL safari base

Small but perfect. Very little to add that hasn’t been said. Manager Rumesh is possibly the most enthusiastic and welcoming host in Sri Lanka. It is very ‘safari’ - we ate (brilliantly) in the garden under the stars. If you know and appreciate wildlife then you don’t need to go anywhere else. Wilpattu is a great game reserve and in Yohan you get a very knowledgeable, observant and calm expert. We saw probably 40 species of bird with him, and although we didn’t see a leopard (try Horton Plains…) we had a magical elephant encounter, and 10 mins with a sloth bear. Top alround in SL.

Everything was amazing! Staying at green sapphire has been the best experience we've had when travelling. The owner Dylan and his staff are a heartwarming combination that will try to make your stay as great as it can be. Rooms were really clean, spacious, very bright and technically perfect (AC, sockets, bathroom fittings). There are problems with electricity in Sri Lanka, but there is a generator here. They provided us with incredibly delicious and plentiful breakfasts and dinners in a beautiful setting in their garden. Dylan owner helped also with organizing safari with very experienced spotter driver that was so amazing! we saw four leopards and two bears and group of elephants Dylan also arranged for us pickup & drop up services and also arrange for us evening and morning bicycle tours to temples, lakes, natural sites - all free of charge.

Dilsara Holiday Resort

A lovely hotel

Reviewed By violagoff

This was the highlight of our trip. We stayed at this beautiful hotel. It’s simple, but clean and comfortable. It is located on the Wilpattu Rd - which leads to the national park entrance. There are loads of wonderful walks in the area and it really is quite stunning. The family run hotel do a great job and the evening meal is and remains the best we have had on our holiday so far! One tip - if you are making your own way here, and are using google maps. There is a bogus Dilsara Holiday Resort on the offline version of the map. Make sure you find the real one whilst still in Wi-fi (easy to find as it has info and prices) and bookmark before heading off. One day I hope to return to this lovely hotel!

Where you feel like home...

Reviewed By KeithWijesuriya

Our second time at the Camp. Nothing has changed. The same fantastic food. The same pampering by the staff. The same (I hope) Bark gheckos on the tats. :) Darrel and Christo are excellent hosts while the staff are so friendly and hospitable. Lots of attention to detail which is so important - good examples being the lunch they organised for us inside the park and the special vegetarian dishes they prepared for my wife. Little things that went a long way in making our stay awesome!
