If you’re looking for a romantic onsen ryokan in Shimogo-machi, look no further than Toryukan. Close to some of Shimogo-machi's most popular landmarks, such as Tonohetsuri (1.8 mi) and Takakura Shrine (3.1 mi), Toryukan is a great destination for tourists. You’ll enjoy relaxing rooms that offer air conditioning and a refrigerator, and you can stay connected during your stay as Toryukan offers guests public wifi. Plus, Toryukan offers free breakfast, providing a pleasant respite from your busy day. For guests with a vehicle, free parking is available. Reviewed By Jason JThey'll pick you up from the station, though to be honest it's only a 5-10 minute walk (across the bridge, over the gorge from the main part of town). The building is spotlessly clean and feels brand-new. Disappointingly not many of the rooms seem to have views of the gorge itself - perhaps the ones on the lowest floor may do? But the rotenburo (open air bath) has them, and you shouldn't miss it. (Apparently there's a small additional rotenburo alongside the main women's bath, but women still shouldn't miss the main rotenburo, which is partitioned into male and female sections.) Dinner - included - is a typical ryokan feast, with various things you cook yourself over tea lamps. I think this is a good choice if you're staying in the area.

Reviewed By ferretMAMAA nightmare? Air conditioning does not work. A threadbare tatami mat. A dirty restroom. A heavy tatami-room table. Thin futon. They did not clean the room. There was waste paper trash on the tatami floor in the room. And I found a cup unwashed on the refrigerator. It was so cold in the room. Because not only the air conditioning does not work, but also the mattress-futon was not futon. Just a mattress. They were false local dishes. Local cuisine,koduyu, was fraud. It was not delicious. Staff asked to us "Are you full?" but never asked "Delicious?". About onsen, it was too hot. Of course there were instructions" Just little bit hot". But it was " very hot ". In the morning, it was too hot. I was not able to enter the bathtub properly. Onsen entrance door was so dangerous. It close so suddenly and make big noise. Please take care of your foot and hand. Of course there were instructions" the door closes so suddenly ". But tremendous ! I want to emphasize； from retro and old, they are distinctly different. from retro and filthy, they are distinctly different. This hotel is not a retro but just old and dirty. This ryokan hotel was worst. I never came again
