Leopard Safaris By KK Collection Yala

Only one man has made his home for thirty-five years amongst the world's highest concentration of leopards in the wild. Noel Rodrigo personally guides guests into Sri Lanka's most dramatic landscapes and natural habitats for elephants, sloth bears and crocodiles as well, in the utmost comfort, thanks to his former career as a first class airline cabin manager. Setting Noel's safaris to Yala and Wilpattu National Parks apart however are not merely the Toyota jeeps customized with camera support points and powerful binoculars for every guest, nor the South African tents outfitted with king size beds, en suite bathrooms, cooling units and private decks, nor even the healthy homemade Sri Lankan cuisine and imported wines. "I don't want my guests to feel any difference," says Noel of his elite team, recognized for their expertise by leading travel agents and international publications including Robb Report, Tatler and How To Spend It. In close coordination, Noel and these equally attuned animal trackers and bird specialists lead twice-daily game drives - most see a leopard, often many -- while hornbills, kingfishers and peacocks flutter overhead. "Elephants may come to drink at the waterhole by your tent," Noel tantalizingly warns his guests of all ages, honeymooners, families and friends among them, at his well appointed camps in the Sri Lankan jungle and high upon the Knuckles Range where nature photography lessons, cooking classes and equatorial stargazing are among the additional activities on offer amidst these timeless natural surroundings.

Lost momentum during COVID

Such a shame. Leopard Safari Camp by KK was recommended by friends who experienced a good stay some years ago. We were supposed to stay two nights but changed after one night as we didn’t feel comfortable. Positive: Dani and team very friendly service and very supportive. Good Safari experience with Dani as guide. Rooms & washroom very clean. Food was good Sri Lankan style Negative: the tented camp didn’t see any maintenance in the last year or two, maybe due to Covid. The Lobby / Dining room looked a bit shabby. Furniture old and ‚very used‘. Not a pleasant atmosphere to spend time. Demolition done by monkeys both on the huts and lobby were never repaired. The tents were very dark and very used. Surprisingly the entire service team disappeared at 8pm straight after dinner. No escort back to the tent. No pick up in the morning while heading safari. Nothing happened but we didn’t feel safe. Price to value really bad So consequently we left after one night to change to wild coast camp.

The secret jewel of Kataragama/Yala

We had a lot of hosts in Sri Lanka but this one was the best one. The secret jewel of Kataragama/Yala. If you like nature, good quality, extraordinary service this is the right place. The accommodation are beautiful modern houses right beside a lake. The two brothers Chamit and Dulaj organized everything for us, showed the surrounding nature and many animals, cooked a delicious candlelight dinnerin in the middle of the jungle , organized snacks for the safari and even drove us to the next accommodation. Thank you very much and we would love to come back, without these two guys this place would not be the same. Petya and Thomas from Germany

Good hotel with a nice pool

Good hotel with a great pool. Gymnasium was closed during our visit owing to less crowd. But the trees around were great and we got to collect a lot of mangoes and exotiv fruits. Loved the orchids being grown all around. Restaurant staff were sweet and ensured vegetarian food was provided. Bathrooms need a revamp mainly the tub. But all in all, a nice hotel which is worth staying in Kataragama

Quite and private

Reviewed By Hopeland

This is a nice place to stay, especially for a big group of people (we were 10). Quite a nice place to stay for the price paid. Plenty of space to hang around and for children to play. Would have been better if we were provided with sheets to cover ourselves and stainless bathrooms. The A/C is too small for the room, especially during the day. This place is a bit far from the main temple, but that’s what brings the quietness. Overall the place is ok for a short stay.
