The best available hotels & places to stay near Cyprus

August 8, 2022 Kandra Bartel

The legendary birthplace of the goddess Aphrodite, Cyprus has been coveted and fought over by a succession of admirers: Mycenaeans, Egyptians, Assyrians and Persians, to name a few. The former British colony was most recently fought over by the Turks and the Greeks. A result of this turbulent past is an impressive range of cultural treasures, from Crusader castles to the tomb of Mohammed's aunt. The island's geography - plentiful coastline with a mountainous center - ensures plenty of year-round activity.

Fabulous hotel, amazing staff

Reviewed By Sallylovessunshine

This is a beautiful hotel, situated close to the harbour and shops in Paphos. Three beautiful pools with plenty of sun beds and several restaurants - due to events that occurred during our stay we only used the main Fontana buffet restaurant but the food was fresh, good quality, tasty and varied. However, what really sets this hotel apart from any we have stayed at is it’s team of fabulous staff. My husband had to be hospitalised during our stay, and it was here that the staff really shone - I was supported every step of the way with practical help and advice but far more importantly emotional support and reassurance whenever I was struggling - every member of staff really cared, even the lovely doorman who went out of his way to give me some magazines to take to my husband in hospital - so thoughtful. Special mentions here to Marilena, Chrystylla and Valentina, Andreas in the dining room, Nikki and the Reception team, our lovely housekeeper who phoned for help when it was needed and Megan the duty manager who sat with me on my birthday when I was struggling - Megan you and your fabulous team helped more than you will know and I’m so grateful to you. So, if you want a gorgeous hotel in a perfect location, with lovely staff who will go that extra mile then this is the place for you - I really can’t recommend it highly enough. The only slight downside is the rooms in the Apollo wing are quite close to a loud bar which plays loud music till late. However, I think if we had been able to enjoy the nightlife as we usually do when away we probably wouldn’t have noticed it.

Great Hotel with Fabulous Staff

Reviewed By jono295

We've just returned from Laura Beach after a fabulous 10 day stay. We arrived late due to flight delays but check in was still fast and efficient. We were offered a drink in the bar (even though the A/I times had finished) and a sandwich, though the sandwich wasn't great. We had 2 interconnecting rooms, though if you closed either of the interconnecting doors, they locked and could only be re-opened by hotel staff, which we found a little odd. The rooms themselves though were lovely. Modern, clean and with beautiful sea views. Both had balconies, fridges, safes and air con. One had a bath with overhead shower and the other a walk-in shower. Food in the restaurants for Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner was buffet style with plenty of choice. We found Breakfast a bit repetitive but I guess there is only so much you can do with this meal. The snack bars are open from 10.30am-5.30pm and offer some great food. Freshly cooked pizza's and pasta in the Italian along with baguettes and salads. The snack bar by the pool we used, near the water park, served kebabs, chips, burgers and hot dogs. All of which were lovely and in ample supply, great for the kids! There is also a swim up pool bar serving soft and alcoholic drinks, included cocktails, which are all included. The only downside to this bar is, that although it is a swim-up pool bar, you are not allowed to drink in the pool. The lifeguards will let you stand in the pool and and drink at the bar, but not any further away or on the side of the pool next to the bar! Most pool bars have stools in the water for people to sit and and enjoy a drink. Seems a little odd and most people don't really understand the rule which the lifeguards seem to spend most of their time upholding, when their time would be better spent watching people in the pool. The staff at the hotel are brilliant. The bar staff were lovely and always had a smile on their faces, despite working some long hours. Zoltan & Nicoletta were particularly great. The housekeeper that cleaned our room each day, Galina, was also lovely and did a great job. You can get a bus from just outside the hotel to Pathos harbour for 1.50 Euros, which takes about 15/20 mins. Be warned though, they still require you to wear a facemask, despite restrictions apparently being dropped. We were refused entry on 2 different occasions as some people in our group did not have a mask. Overall, this is a brilliant hotel and well worth staying at on an all-inclusive basis. The best bits: The staff Great selection of food and drinks English plug sockets in bedrooms (no need for adaptors!) some of which have USB ports for phone charging The worst bits: A swim-up pool bar but you're not allowed to drink in the pool! 90 Euro's for a late check-out (6pm) felt excessive

Spotlessly clean and relaxing hotel

Reviewed By Roy T

We got married recently in cyprus and chose to stay at the blue ivy for 2 weeks. First impressions - the hotel looks brand new and everything is spotless. Only downside was when we arrived late at night, everywhere was closed and there was no where to get a drink. Welcome drinks or a bottle of water in the room for late arrivals would have been nice. Especially when friends arrived the next day and was greeted with a fancy blue cocktail ? Rooms... We stayed in a junior suite which was spacious, very modern and the bed was perfect, large smart tv on the wall, so we could screen share from our tablets or watch stuff on youtube. Rooms cleaned everyday, Friends of ours had a standard room, when i had a nosey in, it did look abit cramped - not much room between the bed and dressing table but ok for a couple. Each night we would get back to the room and there would be a couple of cookies with a goodnight message on our beds, which is a nice little touch. Food.... The food here is lovely. At breakfast there is a range of choices, fruit, salads, cheeses, cearels, pastries, pancakes, egg, bacon, beans etc There is a live omelette cooking station but only 1 cook with 1 pan so i can imagine there will be queues in peak season. Staff walk around with jugs of coffee to give you that caffine boost in a morning. Dinner starts from 7pm and is themed each night. Again the food is top notch with many different things to choose from. Mr nicos arranged for me and our full wedding party to have a meal here the night before our wedding... after the meal everyone said the food is alot better than their hotels and commented how lovely the hotel is. Pool... There is 2 pools. Adult pool and childrens pool. The adult pool is fantastic for chilling out and relaxing all day. The children's pool is a little on the small side. 5 or 6 people and it starts to get full. I'd say it doesn't quite cater for young teenagers. My 13 year old son got abit bored sitting around the kids pool, we didnt spend much time at the hotel through the day coz of this. All in all, i would definitely return to this hotel, the location is perfect... just left off the strip. Waves bar is next door and the beach just down the road.

Stayed here in June with my mum, bed and breakfast. Done my research before staying on the Hotels location, yes it’s not near the harbour, however there is a bus stop right out side the hotel. For €5 a day you can get around the whole of Paphos. 10 mins one way to the harbour, and 20 minutes to coral beach which is an amazing beach. (If you do want a closer beach one near the Venus beach hotel which is 10 mins walk however not as nice) We was first checked in by Luiz, (arrived 2am) he was so lovely and friendly and remained this throughout the holiday. Paitence is also someone else who works on reception and was lovely and honest. Breakfast is okay, standard for what you pay for. We did book a sea view room, you can only see a little bit of the sea more pool, but we didn’t mind this. rooms are cleaned every day to a good standard so can’t complain, you can hear a little noise from neighbouring rooms however we expect this from other holiday makers but wasn’t too loud or a problem. Two pools, one main one and one on the upper deck, lots of sun beds so didn’t have to fight once for one. Bar manager George made us feel really welcome and is friendly, if you did have a problem then he would be more than happy to listen and sort it out. He makes great cocktails, and would make you feel comfortable, defo a 5 star. Overall, I would say it’s a 4 star hotel, clean rooms, get what you pay for, staff are lovely I really can’t complain, Defiantely would come back.
