Also known as Brunswick, Braunschweig is, at about 250,000 people, the largest city between Hannover and Berlin. Many of Braunschweig's most historic buildings surround the city center Burgplatz (Castle Square), including the 12th-century Braunschweiger Dom (Brunswick Cathedral), burial place of the famed Henry the Lion, powerful early Duke of Saxony. Henry's rebuilt castle, Burg Dankwarderode, is also on the Burgplatz and is now a museum. The Old City Market is another popular visitor spot.

A trip to Germany

Reviewed By T4703HRjayc

So onto my next football trip and Germany was my next stop with my son. After many trips round Europe this was my first trip to Germany. Writing my review for this hotel is difficult as I would of rated it 10 out of 10 if it wasn't for the rudeness of the reception team and bar staff but more on this later. The hotel in its self is fantastic a great location it's only 2 stops from the airport and as you leave the station the hotel is in front of you and takes about 5 minutes to walk but be careful if you have young children as there is no direct pavement to walk on only a grass verg next to a busy main road. The hotel bedroom was great comfy beds very clean and had all the mod cons. It also has a vending machine if you decide you need chocolate at 3am!!! The only downside to this hotel was when we arrive we were greated by a night receptionist who was the definition of victor meldrew no cheery hello here or good evening how was your flight and it did leave a bad impression especially as we had a long flight and a delay and a friendly hello would of gone a long way. There was no explanation what time breakfast was or what floor our bedroom was on we were basically left to our own devices. I have to be fair though because when we came to check out in the morning the person who was working was really pleasant and explained we could our leave our bag while we went to football and could pick it up later at no extra charge so I felt better only to meet another grumpy person who was working in the bar when I picked my bag up I arrive to pick my bag up at 11.45pm and there was about 6 people drinking in the bar I thought I would order a drink for me and my son as we had a couple of hours before my flight only to be shouted at by the woman who was serving saying they were closed. I was a bit embarrassed as it was in front of people maybe it was just a bad night So onto the important bit would I stay here again and I the answer is definitely yes. Location 9/10 Hotel services 8/10 Rooms 10/10 Hygiene 10/10 Customer service 6/10 Value for money 8/10 would of been a 10 if not for the rudeness I encountered So next stop Denmark

Clean and new hotel in a nice park

Reviewed By qpop20

Very good hotel, situated in apark near the city centre, perfectly clean, good breakfast and new rooms. There is also a gym but it is more for people who need cardio training only. For exercises there is only one multifunctional machine and some smaller weights which is rather not perfect.

It's a very good hotel, centrally located, close to everything, easy to find. The halls are dark due to the dark color carpeting but it's minor. The room was of a decent size, tidy, quiet, with a nice modern bathroom. There's a temporary parking area in front of the building and an underground garage. The staff are great, efficient and helpful.

Perfect hotel close to Centrum; safe, great bfast!

Reviewed By kimUSAF

Beautiful hotel within walking distance to Centrum; we were able to park in garage across street for discounted rate of 7 euro/24 hours. The room was totally renovated, with new "wood" vinyl plank floors, king bed/mattress, but still had 16 foot ceilings (made me wonder what it looked like 20 years ago); elegant staircase going up, but there is also an elevator. Mini fridge had everything you wanted, but we were also able to take out beers on top shelf and put in a bottle of our wine. We brought our doxie along, and the hotel is very pet-friendly. I am glad we stayed here v. Best Western (which is in a bit of a "seedy area"). The breakfast was delicious which included hot scrambled eggs...can't say enough about the hotel.

It may be as good a hotel as other reviews suggest, but it is the only hotel that has failed to provide a refund for what was admittedly a confirmed booking, when Germany closed its doors to non-business travellers. Two others contacted me and refunded of their own accord; another offered a voucher, but gave a refund when it was still not possible to use it. This hotel offered a voucher, which was never received, but with a proviso that it was to be strictly for one year only and a somewhat ungracious tone.

Covid-19: I went to the Shell gas station for breakfast. Otherwise top.

We had business at the airport. This place is perfect _if_ you have a car. There are (Covid-19) problems with breakfast. The McD which is 10 meters away does not work for breakfast. There is a vending machine that served me a "disgusting chocolate drink". BUT you can buy a coffee from the reception and go somewhere else. The Porta furniture shop (350m) offers a good (hot) breakfast but only from 10:00. The Ikea restaurant is currently totally closed. My daughhter said "If this place had a pool, sauna and beach I would give it 5 stars". I give it 4 stars. That says a lot. Chow

We accidently pulled into the garage for Best Western City Hotel. They let us into the garage and when we went to the reception they told us that we were at the wrong BW but since the other was closed they had changed our booking to the BW City Hotel. So it was fortunate that we went to the wrong parking garage. Not sure if we ended up paying for a room/hotel of lesser value. The City Hotel is smaller and was still relatively empty so it makes sense that they closed the larger hotel.
