Not recommended - over-priced

I am puzzled as to why this place received such high ratings - the key reason why I booked my stay (and wish I hadn't). I have travelled to over 40 countries and have stayed in hundreds of different hotels and never once have I asked to leave - but I did here once I saw my room. It was a private suite for $108 US a night - and it was a dump. The room was small and bathroom smaller, could barely turn around; the mirror was hung low (I am about 1.80m) which made it impossible to shave. To be fair, the manager tried to be helpful and moved me to another room for the night (or else I would have left as cheaper hotel rooms could be found; in fact, I had cancelled a hotel booking, where I had paid less, just so I could try this hostel), but it still doesn't change the fact that there is no way they should be charging such exorbitant rates for a second-rate room.

Cute place out of town

Reviewed By sabs_sto

The place is very cute and the general area is very clean. They have everything you need in the kitchen and the outdoor area to sit is very cosy. The staff is also very nice. We had a private room, and it was nice except for the fact that it was very damp and also smelled that way. You could not open the window in the bathroom, which means the condensation remains in the room. Also, the sprinkler was set up in a way that it came in through the window. You could also not close the window the whole way. Beach is 500 meters away and there is a bus into town.

Decent location and facilities

Reviewed By janicesmlamb

Stayed for two nights, the hostel is a 5 minute walk from the bus station and the two main beaches, and about 10 minutes walk to the main strip of shops. The breakfast was pretty minimal but the kitchen was ok. Unfortunately we had our food stolen on the last day which was pretty disappointing. Room was clean, air con was ok, all in all a good stay.

We stayed at this hostel in off season. So if you travel in high season your experiences might be different. We didn't like our stay at this hostel at all. We stayed in the 'twin room' which is in the basement and was freezing cold. There is no key to the room so it's more like a two bed dorm. The kitchen is really not great. It has two hobs to cook on but else not much to offer. If you want to cook pasta and a sauce you will be fine but other than that you might struggle. The bathrooms were quite dirty and the shower was warmish. The location is good though. 5 mins to the bus terminal and to the 'hand' and to the beaches. Punta shopping mall is a 25 min walk away for cinema and a larger supermarket (something to do in off season) Most shops are closed and there really is almost nothing going on in the town during this time. I would stay here a night max purely because of the proximity to the bus station.

Wildly expensive for what it is

So this place for New Years was probably 10-20X what it would be normally, price wise. There is a ten minute limit in the showers and the rooms are small. Its a standard hostel. Would recommend you get a car or bike as its about 20-30min of walking from the center of town.
