Our hostess shared much information about her family and the Thai people; be sure to have a look through her book on the ethnic groups of Vietnam. One of the best homestays we’ve experienced.

Reviewed By Beth JVery nice location overlooking the rice paddy fields. We booked via booking.com and they didn’t know we were arriving so nothing was organised but they sought to this very quickly. The room was very large and beautiful but the beds on the floor were very uncomfortable. The communal bathrooms were very average but had hot water at least. The owners were friendly however we felt we got ripped off. They asked us if we wanted to have dinner with their family but charged us 200,000 dong without letting us know. The bikes were very old and mostly broken and they charged us 50,000 per day but also didn’t let us know there was a charge. Lots of hidden costs and our final bill was a lot higher than expected. Was nice to wake up to the sound of roosters but screaming babies and lots of noise from 4am onwards.

Amazing place
Reviewed By sofianicolsonAmazing place with great views and food. Family is so nice. I planned to stay here for 2 days and ended up staying 2 weeks. The outdoor area/balcony is great to work on, and there is also lots to do in the area. I will be back one day :)

Our hostel is locally owned and set up as a traditional Thai village homestay and rooms are traditional Thai stilt homes. That means the rooms are one room stilted houses made completely of beautiful hardwood, with wooden floors and mattresses placed on the floor separated by mosquito nets and wooden beams. The downstairs lounge area has a bar, restaurant with authentic local Vietnamese menu, and a pool table. Breakfast is included in the price of your stay here. Traditional family homestay dinner is available at an additional cost.

Day trip tour with Son as a guide
Reviewed By lundkatie2Our family didn't stay at this lodge but went to use their services for a day tour. Our tour guide Son was a wonderful host for a trek into the surrounding hillside where we visited three villages and learned about surrounding culture. He was even nice enough to have us visit his home and talk about the local schools he went to in the area. Our kids learned a lot from him. Son's english was very good and he was able to answer all of our questions. We highly recommend a tour from this lodge and especially this guide!

Mai Chau Valley Retreat is a hidden charm village of the White Thai Ethnic Minority in Mai Chau District, Located 15 km away from tourist zone Lac Village. The people in this village to this date still keep their traditional way of life, farming rice, raising their animals and especially weaving scarves and many different textiles. Mai Chau Valley Retreat consists of 6 bungalows surrounded with a porch where antique tables and chairs are set for you to enjoy coffee, tea or beer in the peaceful natural atmosphere. Each bungalow is furnished with air-conditioner, fan, hairdryer and bathroom inside and specially designed for your comfort with a large open window, comfortable Queen bed and linen. We also have 2 other traditional houses on stilts transformed into large dorms which is separated by Vietnamese traditional removable wall for your privacy like a box and each box is with desk and light for you reading. Mai Chau Valley Retreat is heaven for hiding away from the crowded city life and discovering natural landscape of the North West and experiencing local activities like trekking, boating, fishing, harvesting…etc

Unforgettable experience in mai chau

Nim and Hue were unbelievable hosts, extremely welcoming and generous with their time and knowledge. What a spectacularly beautiful place they have in Pom Coong. They welcomed me into a fantastic dinner with their family, drank beer and rice wine, and helped me with the logistics of renting a motorbike and getting the local bus back to Hanoi. I am already planning my trip back to this place, next time for multiple days!

A wonderful family homestay
Reviewed By LadykissykateThang and his family have made a truly wonderful homestay in Mai Chau town. When there are so many places to stay I can honestly recommend this place above the rest. Positioned away from the busiest parts of town and facing onto the rice paddies and mountains you will feel like you have escaped to paradise. The bungalows are very comfortable and all have AC and a great view. The garden is full of flowers so you will be surrounded by butterflies and dragon flies the whole time. The family are very warm and Thang's mother in law is a great cook. They made some delicious vegetarian meals for us including a quick lunch before we got on the bus. You can rent bicycles and scooters from the homestay as well as arrange a tour or activity for your stay. A great place to unwind and experience village life for yourself.
