Reviewed By F7034YCcarolekThis is a really wonderful place to relax and unwind. We just loved the garden with its lush planting and the pool is beautifully situated. Our room was so spacious and comfortable and the whole atmosphere is very calming. We had superb massages from Niroshe Kumari in a separate building surrounded by water-a really lovely experience indeed. The food was delicious and our hosts Karen and Rohan were very helpful.

The food really is something else, from Sri Lankan treats to international options. All prepared with care, presented beautifully and tastes exquisite. Well worth going for the food alone. However, it would be a disservice to the property to speak purely about the food. The staff are first class, friendly and attentive, but give you the space you need. The hotel itself is tastefully furnished with traditional Sri Lankan furniture, with all the necessary comforts. A lovely pool and a quiet beachside location. Cocktails on the beach are also possible and recommended. Strongly recommend visiting.

Reviewed By Chatterbox1981This was my first trip (19.4.-3.5.22) to Sri Lanka, as it had always been on my bucket list, and I was not disappointed. In advance, I researched accommodation through online portals and booked the flight separately. I found the Sri Lancashire Guesthouse in Bentota through very good reviews and booked 14 nights there. As a woman travelling alone and due to the current strikes in the country, I preferred to do my vacation from one place only and rather enjoy a beach holiday. From the first contact with Nishanti, who quickly and easily answered all my questions about transfers, accommodation and activities, I felt in good hands and her husband Wasantha was responsible for all transfers. For $50 each way, he picked me up from the airport and took me there again. When I arrived at the guesthouse, I was warmly welcomed by everyone and given a tour of the house. My room was large, beautifully furnished and everything including the bathroom was meticulously clean. The price for this room is absolutely fine. The wifi works perfectly, although I only used social media and never made video calls. Twice a day the electricity is cut off for about 2hrs each time, but this is the case all over the country. Nishanti always informed me about the planned power cuts for the next day, so I could plan for this so that I wouldn't have to shower in the dark in the evening or be able to charge my ebook in time. The accompanying balcony with lots of plants was cleaned and maintained every morning. The maid did an incredible, discreet, fantastic job, even though I only used the room cleaning service every 3 days. She decorated the room with beautiful flower arrangements. A nice, polite service person served me a fantastic breakfast with a large selection on the balcony every morning at my preferred time. Nishanti always made sure that I was completely satisfied and on one of my last evenings she offered me a great dinner with prawns and fish as a farewell. Simply awesome! Wasantha was always ready with his tuk tuk for trips to the supermarket or to get food, and with him I also booked day trips to the Elephant Orphanage (90.-$ incl. escort time from Wasantha, entrance fee and fuel) or Yalle National Park (175.-$ incl. escort time, entrance fee and fuel). The other days I mostly went to the beach, which is only 50m away from the guesthouse. There is also a beach restaurant where you can use the beach chairs and where I ate my lunch almost every day. I almost always ate freshly caught, grilled fish or seafood and fried noodles etc. at absolutely reasonable prices ($3 to $12). Simply delicious and the guys there were never pushy. I enjoyed the beach to myself for almost 2weeks and found my peace, which again I feel sorry for the people there, because the country desperately needs tourists and income. I felt well looked after and safe at all times, also due to Wasantha's constant company, and I have not had one bad experience in this country. I did not notice any strikes. I was particularly surprised at how consistently the locals stick to wearing masks, even though this is no longer compulsory everywhere in Sri Lanka. Even walking on the street, somewhere outdoors or alone on a motorbike, everywhere people, even children, wear masks for mutual protection. Impressive! Really everyone is always friendly, warm and always smiling. A great country and, even for women travelling alone with a healthy mistrust, absolutely recommendable! Once again, many, many thanks for an unforgettable stay with the Sri Lancashire Family ?

Stunning boutique hotel next to a beautiful beach
Reviewed By Rhubarb27Taru Long House is a boutique nine room hotel, each with a large balcony or terrace area to enjoy. We stayed for five nights and were well looked after by an excellent team, all very approachable and providing a seamless experience. Meals are ordered in advance and then the food is bought to order and freshly cooked – we mainly dined on fish; the food was plentiful and cooking was of a high standard. The food and drink was reasonably priced compared to the other hotels that we stayed in during our trip to Sri Lanka. The beautiful sandy beach is separated from the end of the hotel by the railway line and this was our one reservation prior to our stay. It turned out to be part of the fun, trains pass slowly by and become part of the idiosyncrasy of the hotel to be enjoyed. We enjoyed the afternoon tea and cakes and also used the hotel as a base to travel to Galle by train and Madu river by tuk-tuk; all organised by Lalith who also messaged us on our journeys to ensure we reached our destinations safely and to offer further assistance if required – which was really helpful. We really enjoyed our stay and are looking forward to returning.

Additionally we arrange excursions according to your taste with the expertise of the proprietor (Henry Payagala – fluent in English/German) who has worked as a national tour guide over 30 years and former resident manager.
Comfortable, unique villa; lovely and caring staff
Reviewed By G8397ONjoycelOur extended family stayed here for a family member’s wedding in Bentota. Villa 80 was a lovely, relaxing home to come back to after the hectic schedule of wedding events. The kids loved the elephant slide and pool, Ringa the dog, the fish pond and all the abundant wildlife. We stayed in the original house which both retains its historical architectural features yet has been modernised; resulting in very comfortable and luxurious rooms. The best part of our stay was the friendly, attentive and caring staff. They went above and beyond to help us in any way they could, including helping us to drape our saris for the wedding, and driving us to and from the remote wedding location. We were served very generous, freshly cooked breakfasts, with fresh tropical fruits every morning. It was very handy to have a chef available on site for any last minute meals. Thank you Henry and staff at Villa 80 for adding so much to our memorable trip to Sri Lanka.

Pathetic place! Avoid at all costs
Reviewed By Samrose1505The place stinks and the service is pathetic. Too far from the beach. It is run by a bunch of liars. We got cheated by the reviews online. Was told by the lady at the desk that the beach is very close to the hotel and we tried walking to the beach and it was over 5 kms.

a little paradise
Reviewed By johannesj217This place is in one word fantastic. A small cosy hotel on the riverbanks just next the mongroves, only two km from the beach. The family who owns this place, and their employees are very friendly. You feel at home from the fist second. Just look out of your balcony and you see all kind of birds and animals passing by, with the monitor lizards living in the backyard, next to the pool! Although not having exclusive rooms, just the better standard, this is certainly the best holiday place I experienced.
