Lovely hotel at stunning location

Reviewed By JAYBDublin

Had a 2 night stay here. Lovely, comfortable hotel with a stunning location, looking right over the bay, and a few minutes from Fistral beach. Didn't have a seaview, but found room good size and very comfortable. Excellent breakfast, 1 of the best I've had. And a special mention to the staff; in all the dealings we had (reception, bar, restaurant) they were all really friendly and professional. exactly what you want for a relaxing stay. Many thanks, we will be back!

Beautiful Art Deco atmosphere

Reviewed By andreg892

A beautiful British Art Deco hotel and restaurant. Lovely food served hot and of high quality. We sat out in the glass area overlooking the sea . It was very bright and hot but better once the sun went down . The service was pleasant and up to price standards. The atmosphere was complete with the 1950’s music playing in the background. Toilets were clean but cheap looking compared to the rest of the dining area . Well worth a visit

An Outstanding Country House Hotel

Reviewed By JOHN T

We have stayed at The Ilsington Country House Hotel at least once a year since it first opened which is a testimony to how much we enjoy its beautiful surroundings, relaxed atmosphere, comfortable surroundings and excellent cuisine. It thoroughly deserves the AA Four Star Country House Hotel and the AA Two Rosettes for Culinary Excellence it has received in 2022. As a hotel it has all the qualities one would expect from a well run family hotel, not least a warm and friendly welcome. The awards it has received are a fitting tribute to the dedication of Richard Hassell and his team

Honeymoon trip

We stayed for 4 nights to celebrate our pre honeymoon and emailed ahead to ask for an upgrade . We was advised unfortunately there were no other rooms available but they had put down some rose petals and received a complimentary drink which made it felt special. So well done for taking down note. Lovely period hotel with a gorgeous outdoor pool area and close to everything. Staff are friendly, but our neighbors woke us at 2am with a loud tele so as he was ignoring our knock s ,I called to reception to ask for help to which they called but no answer . Person from night reception then went out of his way to come up and speak with tele person which solved the loud tele, so thank u very much. Food is excellent!! As well as the breakfast, suberp .Very good hotel , friendly staff, excellent pool area and good food only downside is the overdue bed , our stay was ruined somewhat with the lumpy uncomfortable bed so could not sleep much. Please look to get a new bed in room 222 and maybe could do with an decor update throughout, but apart from that great facilities, food and friendly staff

Beautiful Surroundings & Facilities

Reviewed By Jim S

Staff, facilities and views were all great. In fact there were magnificent views from every window in the hotel. This is a good location for a break - even for non-golfers! We were surprised that there was no lift available when you are on the 3rd floor. Even though you could ask for help with suitcases, it wasn't volunteered at check-in - and you still have the stairs to contend with several times each day (NB we don't have mobility issues and are reasonably fit - more of a convenience thing for us). Also a bit disappointed with the very limited choices on the set evening meal menu (eg only six main courses, two of which were veggie, two meat and two fish), AND the menu did not change during our stay (not even with added "specials"). This meant that for stays of more than a couple of days you are running out of choices. Menu was also same as the sample on the website when we booked, so we don't know how often this is changed .

A wonderful weekend our party of 4 had, went to see beauty and the beast at the theatre was such an amazing performance, went around the city into different shops, had a brilliant Indian and came back to the hotel to celebrate the 50th birthday. The true real slim shady Shaz was absolutely amazing so caring, polite and thoughtful but not only that he also handed us all a complimentary drink for celebration. We went to the room to settle in, only to find some lovely bubbles awaiting in the room for us, we honestly can not thank you for the lovely experience it was above and beyond. Today is coronation street tour and the staff here are truly amazing and will hold your bags in the luggage room. Thank you. - really recommend this hotel!

Covid obsessed. Drop the rules!

Reviewed By IanGordon1959

Covid obsessed STILL in June 22? This is a budget hotel - although £95 wasn’t cheap - but was late booking. When turn up are “greeted” by a Covid rules sign , screens and masked receptionist. Really? Surely it’s time to move on especially from many of the ineffectual rules. Just irritating. Lounge area a bit like a care home atmosphere - rooms not updated since 1980s. But it did the job.

Shameful

Reviewed By Tweez03

The biggest waste of £180. We are local to St Ives, but love to spend the odd night in St Ives and treat ourselves to a nice meal. We checked into this hotel, which has long seen better days. We paid our money and went to our room. We were shocked, it was badly decorated, windows dirty, no spoons, rubbish bathroom and no TV reception. I know this is a tourist hotspot, and expect higher prices, but this place is a joke. Don't stay here!
