We walked up from Clapham taking a route to the east of the mountain in order to make it a circular walk. The route is easy at first, but the last ascent is quite steep until you reach the plateau at the top. We were please to find a stone wind break at the top which sheltered us from the wind. We took the more direct path back, passing the caves into Clapham. The whole day including stops took us about 7 hours, but it was very memorable.

On a lovely Dales walk from the Yorkshire village of Austwick some amazing boulders come into view. I think the correct terminology is 'geomorphological' features from the glaciation period in the North of England. Big boulders are perched on pedestals of limestone. Quirky and definitely worth a stroll to see them.

We visited this force (falls) on our walk, although it looked like a number of people had managed to park their cars close by. it was quite busy, being a sunny day at the weekend. I found the views better further down the force, although it did require walking carefully on a muddy path.

No end of free information about places to visit, accommodation, transport and guides etc. Service was ok but a few smiles would have made the experience more welcoming. Apart from that we found all we needed plus more!

We were surprised at just how large this is. It is generally well preserved, although the chimney fell down some years ago. You can still go inside any of its many entrances, although the outside areas are somewhat overgrown. The connecting railway link has all but disappeared, but the kiln itself is well worth seeing.

We've passed The Courtyard on a number of occasions but this time we had time to stop & browse. The Courtyard is a comparatively new initiative and offers upmarket quality furniture, fashion, fabrics plus wines and a nice upstairs brasserie. We bought a few bottles of wine from BUON VINO, browsed around the shops & ended up with coffee & cake upstairs. Quality rural craftsmanship with a quality twist in the setting of a refurbed farm/barns. Worth a stop.

The Folly is an impressive seventeenth century building which houses the Museum of North Craven Life with Exhibitions on local history and geology and a range of seasonal Exhibitions. Open from April to October Description The museum is open until Sunday 29th October 2017
If you want to know about the history of the area you are visiting including the area's contribution to the First World War then this lovely building is well worth an hour or more of your time. We found the WW1 exhibition very moving and...MoreGlad you enjoyed your visit. The Folly Museum is entirely run by volunteers who act as stewards and also research and create the Exhibitions. Possibly the smallest art gallery in the world, in a converted BT telephone kiosk on the Green in Settle, North Yorkshire, England
We're lucky enough to live within walking distance of this little gem of a gallery. Always something interesting on show - at the moment a long awaited return of the "Moth man". Some amazing pictures of moths......I'll never view them in the same light again, they are so beautiful!
We always look forward to the Christmas exhibition, the 2016 stained "glass" windows were a treat and the penguins ski ing down the mountain, which filled the phone box(gallery) were hilarious.
A 5 minute walk from the centre of Settle up past The Folly, along Commercial Street and you're there. Bring a picnic, there are even a couple of benches on the Green! No parking but well worth the short walk.
Could do with a few discrete "Phone Box" signs pointing the way from the centre of Settle otherwise some visitors may miss out on this special little gallery!

Wonderful place to visit, the enthusiastic volunteers soon have you interacting, pulling levers and signalling other Signal boxes. You may have a problem with getting the kids to leave, the senior one's as well. The only drawback is that it is only open on a Saturday, hey but it is free.
