Shunkoin Temple Guest House "Tetsuryu-Kutsu (the Cave of Enlightened Dragon)"This is the only temple accommodation in Kyoto which offers its services and Zen meditation class in English. Our temple accommodation facility has eight private rooms.Each guest room has a 14.6-suquare-meter bedroom with traditional tatami mats, in which 2 - 3 people can comfortably sleep. Each room also has its own shower room, toilet, heater and air conditioner.The facility has a shared kitchen and dining room. You can make tea, coffee, or basic meals there. The kitchen is equipped with a microwave, toaster, and basic appliances.Shunkoin is located in the center of the biggest temple complex in Kyoto so you can enjoy peace and silence even though you are still inside the city of Kyoto. Also, there are three UNESCO World Heritage sites (the Golden Pavilion, Ryoanji Temple, and Ninnaji Temple) near Shunkoin Temple.
Unfortunate experience in beautiful Japan

My wife and I had a reservation to stay at the temple but we arrived a bit late (9pm) due to a delayed flight, the door was open and we got in to ask about our reservation. The manager (Japanese with American accent) came out very angry, started yelling at us because we were late and stepped into the premises, He threatened us by calling the police if we didn’t leave the premises immediately. This behavior was unreasonable, he could just have said in a polite way that we were late and couldn’t honor our reservation there. Probably that person has a serious bipolar disorder, we can’t understand how a meditation teacher can have this exaggerated aggressive reaction. We have been repeatedly traveling to Japan during many years and by far this was the only bad experience we had.

Reviewed By chika925At first, this is not a hotel you imagine. The accomodation is run by the temple Chishaku-in. You can stay in japanese style tatami-mat room. Wide enough for 2 people. Each room doesn't have private bathroom but there is a big common bathroom in the building. Their breakfast was pure japanese style and very nice. You can also ask them a dinner if you like (min.1500yen- not expensive). I asked vegetarian dinner and it was excellent. But the best thing in this inn is the buddism morning ceremony! You can join in the ceremony (about 60 mins) early morning with lots of monks and one of the monks will show you around the famous beautiful garden and you can enjoy precious pictures by Tohaku Hasegawa (National treasure!) before breakfast. It is the previledge only for the guest of this inn. I will definitely come back here again!! Their service is not like 5 star hotel of course, so you need to make your bed(futon) by yourself, but I promise you will get super unique stay. If you seek something special in Kyoto or if you wanna try a bit of japanese traditional culture(deep one), this is where you should stay;))) Have a nice trip!!

ちょっとそこまで、大心院 ヘ ！
Reviewed By Cruiser810146大心院は京都・妙心寺内にあります。妙心寺塔頭で1492年細川政元が創建しました。大心院は僧や行脚の宿坊いわゆる宿泊施設でした。それは引き継がれ現在も宿泊することができます。 庭園は「切石の庭」と「阿吽の庭」がありいずれも美しい姿を今に残しています。

師走の京都を味わう旅でお世話になりました
Reviewed By きらたろー年末、京都で開催される「吉例顔見世興行」の夜の部を観に行くことが決まり どうせなら、京都市内の立地の良いところに泊まり 「一番京都らしさを味わえる」と言われる季節を堪能しようと 宿泊先を探しました。偶然見つけたこの宿坊は、まさに私が求めていた場所でした。 求めていたことは以下の通りです。 １．顔見世興行が開催される「ロームシアター京都」に遠くない。 ２．できれば、祇園や東山界隈の味わい深い地域。 ３．静かな環境。 ４．コスパが良い。 ５．片泊まり。 ６．チェックイン・アウト以外に荷物を預かってもらえる。 遊行庵はこれらの条件を全て満たしているお宿でした。 ・東大路通りに面していて、歩いてすぐに八坂神社はじめ祇園界隈のあちこちに行ける。 ・コスパ抜群の心温まるおもてなし。 ・朝ごはんが美味しかった。 ・宿坊なので朝の勤行に参加でき、かつ、境内のあちこちを見せていただける。 （御祈祷していただき、御焼香をさせていただきました） ・一人旅でも高額にならない。 この宿坊さんとご縁ができ、周辺のあちこちを改めて訪ねようと思いました。

不愉快でした。
Reviewed By Je_suis_sarah母と楽しみにして行きました。 受付の方やお寺の方々の感じも良く、素敵なお寺だなと思いました。 しかし、参拝受け付けとは別の御朱印の受付のところにいたおばさん(おばあさん？)がとても態度が悪く、発した事に対して「で？」と返され不愉快極まりない態度でした。 御朱印も本来の順番でないところに書かれ酷いものでした。 このお寺は別名“沙羅の寺”と呼ばれているそうですが、同じ名前として不愉快でたまりません。 参拝客を迎えるのでしたらお年を召された方でも人に対する態度は考え直された方が良いと思います。 普段はこのような口コミはしないのですが、あまりにも人に対して失礼極まりなく、東林院様に対して嫌な思い出しか残らずせっかくの母との外出が台無しになったと感じたので投稿させていただきます。 このような寺が京都にあることを不名誉に思います。

Reviewed By Exploration804358興正会館は、興正寺の敷地にある念仏道場兼宿坊です。 一般の旅行者も泊まれるようです。興正寺を訪れた時たまたま見かけたのですが、その時こちらが宿泊施設とはわかりませんでした。モダンなデザインの会館だなと思いました。

Reviewed By tom4laraEin neu renoviertes Gebäude mit spartanisch ausgestatteten Zimmern ohne Betten und Duschen (Gemeinschaftsdusche). Sehr sauber. Nette Betreiber. Das Ausziehen der Schuhe ist noch ok, dass die Koffer im Eingangsbereich über den Teppich GETRAGEN werden müssen finde ich übertrieben. Nicht die ideale Unterkunft nach einer langen Flugreise. Ich hatte die Vorstellung von einem alten Gebäude mit entsprechendem Charme ... mein Fehler.
