A simple and delightful inn

Reviewed By ShelleyYam

This inn is run by the family of the Abbott of Fukiji temple next door. Expect peace, simplicity, clean and adequate rooms with meals prepared from locally sourced ingredients (including melt in your mouth bungo beef) and home- made soba. Photos here include the surrounding bamboo groves, flowers, and vegetation. The onsen is a bit of a squeeze but if you use it at strategic times, it won’t be too bad.

Kaihin Minshuku Shioji

A truly unique and memorable experience

Reviewed By wcmcc

I had the privilege of staying at Shioji for a night as part of a "farmstay" experience organized by my summer Japanese language program. Since our host father was the owner of Shioji, he let us stay there for the night and fed us house food. Mr. Takashima and his family were the best hosts imaginable, were very interested in our lives and opinions, and clearly love meeting people from all around the world. They went above and beyond to make sure we were happy and comfortable, and to show us the best Bungotakada has to offer. Mr. Takashima has a deep pride for his town (and that of his ancestors quite a few generations back), and it shows. The minshuku is rather modest, but this is exactly the way you should experience a beautiful countryside farming village like Bungotakada. The rooms (traditional Japanese style, of course) were comfortable and clean, and the food was delicious. The landscaping around the buildings was great, and really helped stir up the atmosphere of the place at night. And what an atmosphere! As literally the northernmost property of all of Bungotakada (which stands on the northern coast of Kyushu), you can walk from Shioji down to the small harbor, look out, and literally see Honshu across the way on a clear enough day. Simply stunning. If you find yourself in Kyushu, going to a farming village like Bungotakada is an absolute must because you get to see a side of Japanese culture that sadly few are exposed to. If you ever find yourself in Bungotakada, and I hope you do, Shioji will be an unforgettable addition to your trip.

Great onsen and staffs, watch for cigarettes smell

Reviewed By Pow K

This place has 2 onsen spots, one for guests and one for public. The onsen is great. The food here is also very good. The staffs are very friendly and accommodating. There is also a small supermarket of sort right in the hotel, so it's a great place to get some snacks and souvenirs. The rooms are big, but they allow smoking in all the rooms, so you might be bothered by smoke smells from the other rooms. Overall, the place is still very nice!!!

Reviewed By Pioneer811277

Reviewed By 裕子 弘
